  1. I was thinking back to previous threads rather than just this one, but I accept my spanking!! You are BOTH timber recognition GODS! VI on the other hand, best stick to poetry!!
  2. couple of good links here: Common Hogweed – Identification, Edibility, Distribution Galloway Wild Foods Common hogweed THE POISON GARDEN Website Blog - 26th August 2011 Giant hogweed http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/media/3628256/giant-hogweed1.pdf (compares the 2 with size / scale) You've got to go some to confuse common with giant - maybe a bit more media hysteria will do the trick whilst simultaneously reducing the numbers of people out on public footpaths so that the reduction in maintenance funding goes unnoticed!
  3. Your timber recognition skills are fair impressive from previous threads!
  4. Does the landowner want cash for rent or is he going to give you a paper trail so that you can deduct your running costs from your accounts? Paper trail leaves evidence of changed use, requirement for EA licensing if waste is being transferred or processed, possible infringement of compliancy for farm subsidies, additional income that land owner needs to declare for tax purposes..... If it's all "off the record", best to follow tree quip's advice and not invest anything you can't just walk away from. Plus, do a google search for "environment agency, tree surgeon, fine." It'll give you a good idea of what can happen if the excrement hits the air conditioner!
  5. Good job! Hopefully the "right people" are looking in on this thread - long shot - Mont pine stem begging to be crafted in Plymouth if there are any gifted folk in the area??
  6. That's what I'd figured as a viable alternative.
  7. I'd been let to believe that the alpine wasn't so well suited to fitting a loader due to the engine / weight / balance point being relatively forward in the machine. It seemed to make sense and played as a fairly significant 'negative' in my mind. Anyone with a loader on an alpine got personal experience to share on that?
  8. Fair points Ben and possibly it is part of a grand scheme of things. In that case the PR department need a rocket for failing to inform the land owner / Joe public and avoiding the negative PR which is probably irreversible. The comment further up the thread about "imagine how SNH /FC would react if this was a 'private' endeavour" is also very valid - they'd be looking to prosecute.
  9. Made me laugh! Very often the reality with tragic consequences! What would be good to see now, is the academic / business plan that justified this course of action and to identify the architect of the plan and the chain of command that approved it such that appropriate sanction may be imposed upon them - assuming of course it is found to be a poor decision rather than a component of some great master plan that us minions outside of the QUANGO are too dull to understand?
  10. Proactive presence! Walking, talking taking pictures!! They don't like it up 'em!
  11. 🍴🍣🍟🍷 Then 😁👊🏻 Great night!!
  12. A Dhia - oh God, for heaven's sake Ghraidh - darling Don't ponder too long, unless I've got the translation wrong, I'm not sure I want the answer!!
  13. para 6.5 Rod https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/390145/141222_Woodfuel_Advice_Note_-_Guidance_final.pdf
  14. First batch of Swallows have fledged and the amateur comedy value from their early flying endeavours has commenced!
  15. Are you laying a bait out there Jules? Have I fallen into your trap? I'm sure we explored this in a previous thread. (1) "....This British Standard takes the form of guidance and recommendations. It should not be quoted as if it were a specification..." (2) "...Any user claiming compliance with this British Standard is expected to be able to justify any course of action that deviates from its recommendations..." There seems to be a form of contradiction between (1) & (2) and the label 'BS'. On the one hand, it's a 'standard', on another it's 'guidance & recommendations', and finally, it you want to deviate from the G&R you have to be able to justify it. Wouldn't it be the case then that the contrary (but firmly held) interpretations of the assessment categories expressed previously in the thread could all be taken as justification for variance (by each party) leaving the TO to take a view on wether the categorisation is appropriate?
  16. Have you seen Tom D's thread "what's a load?" There is much active and relevant discussion of wood fuel regulation (or rather the lack of it) there!
  17. https://www.roofingsuperstore.co.uk Ive found these to be as good as any Jon. You can scope a price then see if any local merchants have a deal or promo.
  18. Green curry and a hot buttered Thai girl 🍴🍻💃🏻
  19. Sorry for delay! (Although I did post that before #52 in "stupid replies"!) 😀
  20. Most of that happens indoors before even leaving for work!!
