  1. Not quite sure what you mean by that. Surely if we weren't overproducing roadside stocks would be less. Surely if there were less harvesters the problem improve. A lot of mills have been full for a long time now and on quotas for deliveries in. It would suggest , particularly when some of these stocks have been carried for months. The alternative to trying to keep contractors in work is saying theres no work for them.
  2. Have you tried one of the online parts finder sites ? Like anything else there are good and bad , but normally with reviews, and a warranty.
  3. So its an overproduction problem for milling capacity/ market availability ?
  4. So why isn't the timber moving ? why are there such large roadside stocks ?

  6. very very rare for a rack to go wrong,..if you pull the cylinders to check seals you will be able to see. I have lost slew with a piece of hose core blocking a hose,on another occasion the seal cap had sheared off the rack. .
  7. Never been inside a botex , but would assume they are the same principle as other cranes , in which case its a rack inside each slew cylinder. Blown seals inside the cylinders can cause loss of slew
  8. Why do you suspect the slew gear, is there pressure at the slew cylinders ?
  9. No I was questioning the process of veneering,..i have shipped a lot of timber for veneer ,.mostly yew,but I can honestly say that in 40 odd years in the trade beech is a new one on me.
  10. Ercol, Vastern, Whiteleaf ( Goodearls) Berry , all past large users of beech for furniture.On top of those there were mills dedicated to cutting for the upholstery trade. Thousands of acres were grown to supply the High Wycombe area furniture trade, good quality white beech.
  11. When we had a bobbin industry, clogs were worn by many and people bought hardwood chairs, including schools, and we had a 3 ppiece suite industry beech as very much in demand,...changing times .
  12. that's assuming its mid circumference,if it was girthed anywhere but midway on that log it would be miles out.
  13. That size of beech with that much colour has normally ended up as blockwood or props in recent years.
  14. Tbh regardless of size coloured beech has never been in favour by mills. White planking beech ,..mid 50s tonne delivered, oversize for blockwood same price. So as you say , firewood price.
  15. The Valmet are more suspect on bogies , particularly on distance work. Pretty sure there are only about 3 810s actually in England , and JD are always keen to buy them ..
  16. Its an experience for sure, people go there for holidays just to walk round and look. Ive had Cats from them , normally top dollar but honest machines and they stand by them.
  17. Fair enough, I would look into the speed thing though because I am pretty sure only the larger ones had high speed box. Pound for pound Fastracs look a better buy nowadays , big MB s hold their money.
  18. 810 is the better machine, but there are very few in Uk,..
  19. From memory I think only the 1300 and 1500 had the higher speed boxes in. What kind of work is it intended for ?
  20. Boughton hydraulic winches take some beating,..some come with free spool too. Ex mod dealers will have them,...or try Nelson Green
  21. How would you deal with this hollow 60" dbh leylandii with grown in tree guard ? It wants milling.
  22. The Peter we mentioned that got killed ran militants. Could it be him you cut for ?
