  1. Bang on. I'm tall so will try a 5' length.
  2. Interesting subject, some folks do get funny if there are not many spilts. All customers are different but I just say to them 'it all burns if you get it hot enough' and jump on my horse and ride out of town
  3. I can never get my head around that Stobart thing on channel 5; matey picks up an artic of chip from back of beyond and drives 100+ miles with it? All that carbon malarkey...
  4. Thanks for the reply, I will need to get a newer Isuzu as mine is only plated for 3 ton. I'll carrying on dreaming and aching! The grab has only rubbed salt into the wounds....
  5. You can see why old hedgehunter has to source staff from an agency. I bet he turns over more staff than I do pounds!
  6. Stephen, sorry if been covered before but how do you transport your cat? Looks a handy machine
  7. i would say the opposite but I suppose saws are like cars, you will always get bad ones. I read the 261 comments on here all the time but touch wood mine has given two years of good service. I have a 441 mtronic with a 20" and love it mainly due to the acceleration. Having said that I have not used the Husky equivalent, lots of lads use Husky around here but I think they are scared of the technology!
  8. Looks like that picture is circa 1990's with that classic in the driveway!
  9. I was thinking of knocking a few up based on decent pallets which would hold say half a truck load each just as a back up supply. They won't be worth £50 each! Would be interested to know how you get on with potato boxes
  10. Might be a silly question but with the council slapping TPO's on anything and everything could this be a honest mistake by a non rogue who forgot to ask the customer whether it had a TPO or not? I wouldn't expect a Silver Birch to have a TPO I'm braced to be ridiculed if necessary....
  11. Roger Young at Saltash will sort you out with a Land Rover or Isuzu and are a sh1t hot dealer

    Gates

i'll remember that in future instead of using brackets that are hidden by the featheredge but the nail through the fe always hits the brackets. As you can probably guess I only make gates when there is no work to be had with a chainsaw
  13. as above. My system just does the rads and is a gravity system (the pipes all run uphill from the back of the burner so the upstairs heats up first) until the temp of the return pipe hits 45 degs then the pump kicks in and pumps it to the rads downstairs. All systems are different but my mate who put mine in said the stats should not be anywhere near anything which could affect the reading ie close to the burner or any other warm pipes or also anywhere too draughty
  14. anyone else think the policy should not apply to basic consumables such as oils, files etc? New saws in particular I much prefer having them handed to me complete and in the knowledge they have been run etc
  15. but all dealers should pay Stihl vaguely the same price for stock, just because they are the only Stihl dealer in the local area why should I pay sometimes 20% more for something I can have delivered to my door, ordered anytime of the day? My local dealer stocks plenty of Oregon bars and chains which they sell well and always recommend to put on my Stihl saws. No thanks.
  16. completely agree - I buy barrels of chain oil and all manner of general agricultural spares from the same dealer but anything with Stihl written on it seems to be out of stock and just a bit more than anywhere else. I am terrible for ringing around and pitching them against each other. Sometimes not worth the hassle but sometimes it pays off given the price of a pint nowadays
  17. I just feel sorry for the likes of jonesie etc who are abiding by the policy and they are being undercut by those who don't on ebay. But like many others I am guilty of buying stihl parts on ebay as their price and availability knocks spots off the local dealer.

    Ms 441

love it to bits, its the autotune version so accelerates really well. Light and balanced enough to use more than you would a big bar saw so it sees a good amount of use. It replaced a Makita 7901 with a 26 inch and I have not looked back

    Ms 441

got a 441 but have only run a 20 with no probs. Think 28 is the limit on Stihl bars? Would be interested to know how you get on if you find one. How do you rate the saw as mixed reviews on here?
  20. I have bought a fair bit through Jonesie over the past couple of years mainly due to the competitive prices, quick delivery and the fact I can do it whilst supping a pint in my dressing gown. Not to mention they are good to deal with over the phone. Alas they now cannot send me a gallon of Stihl 2 stroke oil and some Stihl files due to the online policy- how can this need a handover? Tad patronising to say the least. Brand new saw then yes, a handover knowing it has been put together, checked over etc but for consumables its a bit much. My local dealer is the only one for miles and is useless on stock and prices. Before if you were a 'known customer' then its fine. I hate to say it but I got my last batch of files and oil off ebay where they seem to ignore Stihls policy. Sorry to jonesie but Stihl need to make it so so its not one rule for one and one for the other. Rant over.
  21. i'll come clean....we tried pulling it off and it wouldn't budge so called for an ambulance as we thought they could numb it a bit but the emergency dispatcher assumed I was 'trapped' so sent the fire brigade. They thought it was hilarious and it got them out of cleaning duties for an hour. One of them said I shouldn't get so attached to my work! A couple of weeks after we had a gorse fire out of control (not my fault!) and the same crew turned up. They asked the same question as you Old Mill
  22. The fireman frisked me for my phone. Made the local paper. More injuries from a Silky than a chainsaw so far (touching wood)!
  23. Paslode 350+. Just double check that when you want a 51mm it hasn't got a few 90mm ones left in the magazine. Will never live this one down....
  24. If they are Duck shooting the shot raining down should also be non toxic - big debates at the moment surrounding the use of lead shot for wildfowling so they could land themselves in hot water if they are ignoring the legislation and you get the authorities sniffing around. We get the shot problem very rarely but the worse one was someone using heavy shot (I think 4's) on high pheasants which smashed a windscreen and dented the bonnet on a brand new Range Rover parked nearby which didn't go down too well. Best of luck with neighbourly relations, never straightforward
  25. was it me or was the saw they gave Matt Baker blunt as a badgers backside or he was scared of it? Would have been quicker with a bow saw!
