  1. m didint say it had to be from a mod. i dont look into posts as much as most and just read them as they are put. not in a way that i would see them as rude or the like. just read them. in a face to face its easy and i know when to stop. think i will stick to the maintanance threads and chainsaw ones. will make my life easier. and yes i have thought this week the forum was a tad boring.
  2. thought so. i was actually waiting for an email or the like, but then i know when to stop and keep quiet. keep my head down for a bit as i know i done wrong in the thread. for this i do appologise to people. but would rather get a pm saying so if i do go too far.
  3. is that coz ive been quiet????
  4. seem this one got missed. i get a few cut offs in. i have made a plate for the intake and exhaust. same as the more modern saws. and testing them is the same process as others.
  5. not sure if they would have a case in a cordenend off area. just add a sign about entering at your own risk, or that you accept no responsability for loss or injury etc.
  6. ok. so check oil level. then its take it apart and have a look. oh and have a look at valves and rockers etc.
  7. for me i would guess as i dont count them. should do really but an average would be a full chain from first sharpen to the witness mark. so a full chain to the wear limit on one file. the wear of a file depends on the wear on the chain. if its blunt as a door then it will take more off the file.
  8. really. i use oregon and they have been really goods imo. but then i will bin a file long before it gets blunt as they are a consumable to me.
  9. what he said. 50 strokes and there would be very little tooth left.....:laugh1: managed to get an edge back on a chain that should have gone in the bin plenty of times with a few strokes.
  10. 7.50 for anything 24inch and under, price then goes up as bar goes up. that for the good old hand sharpen, machine goes down in price for bulk chains that have been used for digging dirt.
  11. ok. two choices. new engine. or new rings, depending if cylinder shot, but might be salvigable, did the engine sieze up or did you stop it in time? can it be turned over?
  12. whats the engine. chances are it will be easier to replace the whole engine.
  13. if you can get someone to check out the engine, that sort of sieze may cause some damage to pot or rings. resulting in loss of comp and poor running problems. it may. use it close to home first just incase it does play around. and you are welcome by the way. glad to help.
  14. hahaha. go give it a good yank. you may need a puller. may just come off with a good hit with a wooden mallet. sometimes they fall off others can be a right pita.
  15. ive seen that stump. well when it was a tree anyway. im sure i done a site visit to fix you top handle there....
  16. had a bit of development on this. the chain was amde up using the old one. not off the bar. so a guess would be the chain had been changed in the past and this new one was made up from a manual rather than looking at the bar. the chain was made from a reel. still confused where the canadian bit came from tho. i did repair this saw by the way, not the chain but the oiler issue. the bar was very new.
  17. ok. so remove start assembly and use a socket to see if you can move the crank. gently. maybe a siezed cylinder where it has been left so long without being turned over. why i mean gently. will be worth putting some wd down the plug hole aswell. could just be a stuck pull.
  18. thanks for clarifying what i thought already. the bar is a newish bar, so not from the 80s as you say. just confused the hell out of me. woundered what canadian had to do with it, as the bar also says made in germany, not west germany. thanks for the replies gents.
  19. well thats why i asked i was just as confused. stihl bar, .404 chain. said the chain was canadian and it was wrong for the bar. thought .404 for a stihl was the same no matter what the make, thought it was only husky that was different..... said the canadian chain was smaller guage causing it to wobble in the rails?
  20. yep thats worn out. need a new one. the clutch part is the bit that is still on there. the four wear plates are worn out. that bit pulls of as it has the woddruff key. thats the bit you need.
  21. ok. need to check something. has anyone heard of canadian chain? had a 048 in and it needed a new chain, the owner done this himself. but he come back to me saying the shop he went to for the chain said it was a canadian chain and bar? so he had to make one up or something along those lines, ive never heard of this so thought i would ask around. is there such a thing? it was a stihl bar and .404 chain. didnt know there was a difference in the chains by country....
  22. remove the plug and try again. or as said is the drum jammend up? can you turn the drum by hand or not.
