well. tonight i will be mostly getting wet, in a force 6 doing 25knts. out to a flashing strobe 11m out. just a loose marker. got on the helm on the way back and loved every second, got soaked and im still on a come down from adrenalin. first real rough weather, one of the lads thinks ive lost it as everytime we hit a good wave i just started laughing. and the cox said it was the best helming he had seen in a while. i loved it. now im off for a shower.
  12. unless there is a hole or crack in the tank, or even the gasket is leaking, had a 441 in that was leaking oil from around exhaust, the gasket had gone. but the chain was being oiled ok. pressure test the tank.

oh yes. thats what im talking about. very nice in a maersk big ship. sadly i have yet to actually witness these seas, not had a storm in a long time. closest i have is going out of the harbour entrance and finding a "hole". i have sat in the trough on the lifeboat and its not a nice place to sit, the sideways motion really tries to throw you off your feet. on xmass eve we had a shout and were in the trough i truely felt sick but still done the task and got home. i hope that everyone stays safe on monday, tree surgeons and seaman alike. remember lads that tree is not worth your life.

thanks hedge. yes it will be interesting and all the crew are in two minds. on one hand we are hoping that nothing happens, good as people are being sensible. on the other is hoping it does, its what we all joined for, nothing bad but going out and using the lifeboat in the sort of weather it was designed to be in. dont mean to sound heartless or anything but its what i joined for. plus im just looking forward to a bloomin good storm.
  18. overheated battery. how old is it? normally gets hot first and warm to the touch. bet that made a nice pop. have purposely exploded a battery at college to show what can happen, not something i would want to be around. if it didnt overheat i would give the charging system and earth points a good going over, just incase.

i will be at the lifeboat station for a lot of the day waiting.
  20. good test to find out, i have done this so many times, its that front handle on the stihl that does it. i have seen this happen alot, but moslty on top handles. due to doing a cut and getting the saw down and away before it has dropped in revs, suppose it cant be helped if concentrating on the big lump you are about to drop. think he means applying it at full revs rather than waiting for it to calm down. lets face it the brake is there for the operators safety, its there to prevent injury not to be a neusance. applying it at full revs should be on start up and test only, do it too often and it will break, its a safety feature to be able to apply at full revs and stop that chain quick, you wouldnt slam your car brakes on at 70 eevry time just because you can. so why do it to a saw. if it works then use it, dont abuse it. oh and i use it everytime i stop cutting. unless snedding up with saw on opposite side of timber. it doesnt take much to wait a secone for a saw to drop to apply it.
  21. this is to do with recessive and dominant genes, same as eye colour, if one parent has blue eyes and the other brown the child will have a good chance of having brown, there are perecntages for it all but cant remember off my head. the same goes for hair colour, if both have dark hair then there is a higher chance the child will have a blonde colour at the start of there lives, but with blonde parents the child will naturally be blonde. the blonde gene is a recessive gene, unless there are two with the blonde gene the dominant gene will take over. of course this does be proven wrong but the percentage is very small. found some info if anyone is interested. 22. one to lightnen up a rubbish morning
  23. yep. i have had a warning from the lifeboat to be at a standby for monday from early morn to late. so i cant travel too far, might just go sit down there and listen to the radio traffic, see what happens.
