  1. All, Why dont the police announce on the BBC that the Marines (who I understand are operational in the SomersetLevels) have authority to shoot looters? they only have to top a few & it would stop it right away N
  2. Hi As well as a revenue stream from customers, you will also need an accountant if its a Limited company. N
  3. All, I think Prince Charles comment "The tragedy is that nothing happened for so long" sums it up well. Chris Smith is just a member of the old boys club, who in his own deluded mind is "doing a great job" & Im sure everyone in Somerset agrees with him. Oh well, Im sure a large pension awaits at some point in future, anyone else would have been fired long ago. N

Hi, I did try Ardbeg on the ferry and very nice it was too, surprisingly delicate but Im going to be torn between that & Lagavullin for my next Islay malt. Meanwhile its time for a dram of Talisker, Sláinte N
  5. Hi Yes, seemed to make sense to me what he said, its going to take a lot to sort it & I hope its not long before words & money become actions & results. To be fair on all, it has been an exceptionally wet winter, even here its the wettest the locals can recall. N
  6. Hi Jon, In France that bloke would have been lynched & I wouldnt be surprised if the EA got banned from the levels, I think thats how & why they sorted out Norfolk. Over here this is managed at 'town hall' level, the Govt just provides the cash - Exactly what Camaroon was talking about needs to be actioned & it would put some money into local businesses in the process. Anyway, I hope your local cizzer orchards arnt affected & the skittle alley still dry - bon courage. N
  7. Hi Jon, I agree, those with their 'sleeves rolled up' are doing a commendable job in difficult circumstances, it would be a lot less of a problem if the EA had spent the allocated money correctly. Its the seat polishers who are the wasters that spend 30m on a bird sanctuary whilst peoples houses/farms/businesses etc are waist deep in water, just what are these dorks trying to achieve? Anyone watching from another planet would be completely confused. Incidentally, the French landowners are responsible for maintaining drainage ditches, theres no forms to complete & no jobsworth pen pusher that checks up, they just get on with the job, yes water levels have been very high lately & gone up and down like a yo yo, but no floods & plenty of low lying land here. Im sure it would all be different if it were in Westminster. N
  8. Agreed, would create a lot of jobs in not exactly the most prosperous of areas - I used to work at Highbridge. It must be extremely frustrating for local people to be ignored for so long, the same thing happened a year ago & precious little has happened since. & I agree they are not the cause of the flooding, it was the sly way the BBCs editorial slipped in the comment suggesting so. And there is money available, theres money to fight wars, give to India, flush down the toilet on useless IT projects with little if any benefit, the list is endless, but when it comes to spending on things that really make a difference to people, that seems last on the list. Preventing flooding needs a lot more money & a lot more action of all types which would create a lot more real jobs, it demands 'hands on' leadership with the ability to listen & use companies that know the local land, not a blundering old duffer who cant apologise for his failed leadership & catalogue of departments failures. Im dammed sure it wouldnt happen on my watch. N
  9. Hi all, I did have an 82 year old female admirer whilst dropping a large pine near the lane which passes our front garden. Fiercely independent, still keeps chickens & 3 sheep, who advocates dipping stockings in Eau de Vie to prevent mossie bites, seen wearing a coat, mid summer well over 30 degrees. And also, a lovely person to practice my French with, whilst waiting for the mussel delivery in summer. N
  10. All, Watched a BBC report today, the arrogance of Lord Chris Smith beggars belief, clearly they are not the cause of the floods as suggested by the BBC but the reluctance of this man to accept any responsibility and apologise to local residents for the pitiful efforts of his department over the last year is appalling. Its obvious to me thats whats needed is regular planned maintenance, not a pittance of a token effort of 'crisis management' over a month too late. All be different if he lived in Somerset </rant> N
  11. Hi It should last for a good bit yet, I hate to see stuff junked because its old, they used to use G4s when I was at BVHE Walt Disney for video editing, I thought there were only half a dozen on the network as so few calls, but there was over 70! I added a WD Velociraptor in it for boot disc WD1000DHTZ is backpane compatible to my 2006 Mac Pro, use carbon copy cloner to create copy of old boot disk along with 16Gb ram & it absolutely flies. I use these WD raptor & velociraptor disks in small servers & for raid arrays & they run for years. N
  12. Hi Its a long shot but Ive asked someone who may be able to help, The goverment should stop spending so much money on foreign aid and spend it on the UK worth a go & fingers crossed N
  13. +1 from me for Eddy, WYK & other flicks, I always did like the 'over fifty & still quite nifty' pages in Fiesta:biggrin: N
  14. I agree, they're not all bad & as you say fine for occasional use. N
  15. Hi, I try & support local dealers providing they are prepared to support me, we bought a hedge trimmer from Gamme Vert usually OMG prices , but had a good offer with 2 year guarantee. We got a good demo on the basics; starting & maintaining etc, Mrs NFG had a go starting & operating as well. We also noted the workshop was well organised with helpful staff. Anyway, a year later it developed a problem, returned & a week later they had fixed it. Cant fault the service we received. Just wish their 550xp price was a lot less than 779 Euros !!! N
  16. Hi Ive done both, you need to work out whats best long term, you could always speak to your local dealer & try and get them to improve their price. Incidentally, I called in at FR Jones not so long ago & their service / repair operation looks very good. N
  17. Hi Looks 'home made' to me, but does the job N
  18. Hmm, Nice saw, Whilst XP is a fairly good OS, but Im glad I abandoned Microsoft about 6 years ago, particularly as the little darlings announced they are going to release vulnerabilities in the OS to hacking groups once support stops. Smacks of twist arm to upgrade & somewhat nasty way to do it. I know Apple isnt such a wonderful company but at least theyre not as bad as that. N

    Buying a saw

Hi From my electrical engineering days 1 HP = 746 Watts Therefore divide Kw by 0.75 to get approx BHP so 1.5Kw is 2.0 HP to go HP to Kw just divide by 4 multiply by 3 Approximate but near enough N
  20. Hi When I ran a Ltd company, I employed an accountant to file my accounts on time & solve financial problems, not be the cause of them! But yes, I agree any accountant worth their salt would take it on the chin. N
  21. Hi Justin Great news to hear you are expanding, all the best N

    Stihl

Hi Not really, have you not visited Mr Jones? £390inc VAT with 16" bar If you're going to spend that sort of money do it properly & get a 261 or 550 Better saws that will provide years more service IMHO N
  23. All, I agree, you shouldnt fly tip, but personally Id rather see stuff like brash tipped than oil drums containing God knows what & so on. The last few years must have been a very tough time, I cant imagine what it would be like to have one saw stolen let alone all my kit which is a lot less than 15k. I hope that you can now rebuild your business & wish you the best for the future. N
