    Aspen

It would be great if Aspen were to be subsidised, but to be honest the subject of Aspen (or any alkylate) does not even show on the governments radar yet in the UK. Nobody makes a killing from Aspen, neither the manufacturers, importers or dealers. It is an expensive product to produce, bottle, store and distribute, and the profit margins are pretty low, so very little room for discounting. On the plus side, there have been no price increases for several years.
  2. I have had a fair few in over the years with this symptom that have simply been down to an incorrect chain fitment. The chain had been refitted for whatever reason and the drive links had not seated in the rim, but instead had seated between the rim and the side case. This puts load on the drum and crank and luckily makes it difficult to start or damage could ensue. Not saying that's the case here, but worth checking. Its often the simplest things.......
  3. Sorry Hairy, I did not mean to distract from your post, as I had not seen it, I think I posted just a split second after you. And, what the feck does 'erudite' mean?
  4. Stihl brushcutter clutches do seize easily, I see a lot of them. I must admit to not having seen a 3 shoed clutch, but the 2 shoed ones seize regularly. The shoes are sandwiched between 2 plates and a little rain on a hot clutch causes the shoes to rust and stick between the plates. The shoes also have a pivot bush which easily rusts. This sticks the shoes hard enough for centrifugal force be insufficient to move the shoes out. Dissmantle, cleqn, lubricate and reassemble. There are some images of the two shoe version on post 14 of this thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/maintenance-help/95574-sthill-fs450-vibration-2.html

    Aspen

Aspen and Fuel fit are two completely different products Aspen is a totally pure fuel with many benefits both to the health of user and the well being of the machine. Just one of these benefits is that the fuel does not deteriorate with age. Petrol deteriorates due to phase separation and oxidation. This process can be slowed down with the addition of yet more chemicals in the form of anti-oxidants, to the already impure cocktail of chemicals in pump petrol. So Fuel-Fit and similar additives are very beneficial in preserving petrol quality and delaying the degradation for up to 12 months, but solve none of the health issues. Neither does it make petrol burn cleaner so the upper cylinder still builds up carbon deposits. For those users not wishing to use Aspen, the use of Fuel Fit or similar is highly recommended.

I would always suggest that the best deal will be had at a local dealer, but appreciate that there are some big gaps in the dealer network, and time travelling to collect fuel costs money. So to help out those who wish to use Aspen but have no local supplier we offer a delivery service. Several Arbtalkers use us on a regular basis for their Aspen supplies. Full details of prices and volume discounts can be found here Nationwide delivery of Aspen fuel ordered online - - I hope this helps.

It is a real problem. Sure, it does not happen to all the people, all the time. But it does happen and we see a lot of effected machines. The real story of Stale Petrol - -
  12. Congratulation Andy. Your 6 cans of Aspen were despatched yesterday and should be with you by Tuesday. Thanks to Steve for this raffle, tremendous results each year. We are honoured to be associated with it. Barrie
  13. Crikey, after all these years of preaching I have my first convert!!!! Seriously though, I am glad you have tried it and liked it. Your 170 is a bit of a mystery. It does on the face of it look like it does not like Aspen. Sure, there is a slight difference in the density and gas pressure of Aspen which means that some saws need a bit of a tweak on the L screw, but of course that single screw carb does not adjust well, was the replacement also single screw? But there could be other influences other than the Aspen and this could be pure coincidence, as, believe me, the 170 will run on Aspen without any trouble. Try the options that Spud has given and keep us informed.

  18. As said, the Kaaz (danarm), Cobra and Lawnflite are truly identical. The 19" versions are quoted at 47kg with the good old Kawasaki engine, and 50kg with the new Subaru. I still have stock of Kawasaki powered Kaaz if you are interested in the lower weight Widge.
  19. Not so sure FSB Business Banking
  20. Safari v9 and Internet explorer v11 both with the same issues. But last night I found that I could post by resizing, just as has been said above. Never used to have to this though, but I could manage like this if its the only way forward, but I always take the highest resolution images possible as it enables cropping to fine detail if required.
  21. Forty Six:001_smile:
  22. I use this.
  23. Plenty of benefits if you care to use them, although we seldom do. We do use the free banking, saves us a lot of money. And the tax investigation cover is included. To have this investigation cover is IMO essential, and the cost of buying the cover is roughly the same as FSB membership, so its a no brainer really
  24. yep, double harness. yep, smallest of the two AV models Stiga SBC 645KD Trimmer Stiga Lawnmowers
