  1. I think you will not go too far wrong with the Stiga SBC645KD £389 inc vat, 2year Pro Use Warranty. Just a bit on the heavy side though.
  2. Also a result of stale petrol, found on engines running on stale fuel but not being worked too hard. Seizure would shortly follow if the engine is worked hard.
  3. What is this Aspen stuff? Does it enhance your memory?
  4. Your dealer should make sure that the revs are correct when he PDI's the machine, so no need to worry.
  5. Whilst stale fuel in itself will not cause loss of compression, it will lead to engine overheating through lack of lubrication and through running weak. This is because stale fuel rejects the 2 stroke oil that was fully dissolved when the fuel was new, and also stale fuel contains less energy value than fresh, so the air to fuel mixture becomes weaker as the fuel ages. So if a 2 stroke engine is worked heavily on ageing fuel then overheating and associated wear will occur quickly which can lead to loss of compression and ultimately to seizure.
  6. Yes, but the mulch kit is only available for the 21" version
  7. There is no hydrostatic version in the UK Kaaz range
  8. I believe it to be a bit of both.
  9. All the Kaaz 19" machines are now being fitted with the Subaru engine. The Cobra is merely a rebadged Kaaz. Apparently Kaaz had been having some issues with Kawasaki and decided to switch to Subaru. The Subaru, even though seldom found, has a great reputation.

  13. So the time has expired on the Stihl 038AV and the lucky winner was Bob who has agreed to donate £80 to the Childrens Trust. I would have liked to post images, but the technical issues continue.
  14. Thanks Stubby, maybe it is something to do with my computer then, hell, I hate computers!
  15. The Stihl 038AV has now had a bid of £80 from Bob. Remember that the bid value is a donation to the Childrens trust, and £20 more will be payable direct to me to cover P&P unless you organise your own collection. I am still hoping to post images of this saw but am having technical issues
  16. Is anyone else having any problems posting images today?
  17. I have had a look around the unit and found two intact, running saws. One is a McCulloch mac7-38 14" The other is a mac338 14" Both saws have been on the shelf for 14 months since I used them in my garden to knock down a connie. Both have been stored with Aspen and they both started this morning within 6 pulls. Both saws are up for offers on the same conditions as the 038 posted yesterday. I would like to post pictures but seem to have a technical hitch at present.
  18. I have now had a bid of £60 for the 038 from Dan Now, that's strong money for a non runner, so even though I had no intention of doing anything further with this saw I came in early this morning and put the carb together (using the original diaphragms), squirted a bit of fuel into the carb and it started straight up. Coughed an spluttered for 30 seconds then settled down. It revs OK, ticks over OK and oils OK. So you are now bidding on a known runner.
  19. I have had a bid via PM for £35.00 against the 038. Thank you Martin and good luck.
  20. Haha, I think I have another just like it somewhere, will check tomorrow!
  21. Ok, so this thread is revived with the 038AV Super mentioned on Spuds bench thread. No pictures at present as the saw is at work and I am at home, but this is the description. Its an 038 AV Super which had lain unused for several years and would not start, possibly due to stale fuel. I pulled the carb off with the intent of an overhaul but had no kit in stock at the time. I then decided to inform the customer of likely costs, and as a bar and chain were also needed and the cost would be well over £100 she decided she did not really need it anyway. So it has sat in a corner until I was reminded by Spuds post. The carb is in bits but everything is there, but I have made no further diagnosis, neither do I intend to. So, as a couple of people have expressed interest I think it fair to offer it to the highest bidder by this time tomorrow evening. The winner will make a donation to the Childrens Trust with a reference to arbtalk, as in the OP and fax me proof of the donation. The winner can then either collect in person, or send in their own courier (I will box it up) Or I will box it and despatch to UK mainland, exc highlands and islands, for £20 payable direct to me.
  22. What!!!! I was thinking more of donation to my beer fund!! No, seriously though, Steve knows me well and is on the money with his answer. In thread I started a few years ago call 'scrap saws for a good cause' I offered a few bits of kit like this 038 to Arbtalkers in return for a donation to the Arbtalk Charity. So this one can be the same and I am going to post it on that thread in a few minutes, so take a look. I don't want any money for myself, but neither do I want to be out of pocket, so I will not be doing any work on this, and you can buy at your own risk. You can collect in person, or arrange your own carrier to collect. Or I will pack it up and despatch it for £20.00 which the winner pays me.
  23. Yes, its all there. As I recall it came in for service as it would not start after a long period of storage. I think I quoted for carb overhaul (stale fuel) but it also needs a bar and chain. The owner decided not to proceed.
  24. I have an 038 sitting on the shelf for 'spares or repairs' if you want another Steve. Cant remember why its there and can't be bothered to find out, the carb is off but is in a tub (Cut off Aspen can!) along with all the bolts etc.
  25. I had one on a 346 the other day that was so tight the impact gun would not shift it as it overcame compression and span the engine. I tried every trick I had ever used, but in the end had to lock the piston, but to do this I removed the exhaust and measured the bore with a bit of brush cutter cord. The I cut a piece of rubber about 6mm thick to a circle the diameter of the piston, then trimmed two side so it would push through the exhaust port so that when brought to TDC it spread the load over the whole width of the piston, not just in the centre. Even then the clutch to a lot of impacting to come off and I started to have concerns for the con rod, but all was well.
