  3. Yep that I understand as I said . Tree boys referred to BTU ( British Thermal Unit ) I thought that was to do with gas . Just wondered how you determin what BTU wood has .
  4. Stopped greasing nose sprockets . Now they don't fail . I think the grease attracts grit and dirt increasing he risk of failure so don't bother any more . Seems to be working fine for the last 5 years or so .......
  5. As said top pic is pop . So if that log came from the rest of the tree in other pics pop it is ....
  6. How do you determine what British Thermal Unit ( BTU ) value a certain wood has then ? As I understand it all wood has a very similar calorific value for a given weight . Say one Holm oak log has the same calorific value as three similar size poplar logs . How do you find the BTU ?
  7. Wonderfully spring like here Jon ....

  10. The filler plug for the tank should have a vent in it . Just check its not the vent squirting some out and it is running down to the seam . When mine is very full and on a bit of a slope some times it will squirt a bit out of the vent on a tough lump !
  11. I think it is safe to say that who ever told the OP it was crap was in fact talking crap .....
  12. What goes around comes around ....and so it goes on bud !
  13. Linked quite well at the last knockings ! I prefer one piece hard rock maple for necks combined with a one piece swamp ash body .....not sure how they burn though ......
  14. Sorry mate . Awful when you loose a good friend as he was . Lost my 15 year old working cocker a while back . They both had a good life so you can do no more bud .
  15. When I was a little lad there was an Elm just like the one in your avatar at the bottom of the garden just in the field . That is 60 odd years ago . Sad or what ?
  16. Don't use on if I can get away with it . Make sure de comp valve is out if you have one . Sharp clout with a copper or aluminum drift and 3/4lb hammer and it spins off . ( Clutch that is )
  17. Had some logs split from dead standing eucalyptus split in the summer and left in outside wood store for a year then left over in the log basket indoors for another . Looks and felt bone dry and hard as concrete . Tested at 12% . No way is anyone going to get 4% ...
  18. New we had them but never seen one in all my 61 years ! and I live in the South . Seen the other two a few times though ......
  19. Ok . I think it may hinder others . . Like you . Its not for me ...
  20. You said " its a good thing in my opinion " Are you for it or not ?
  21. Soooo make it optional on home owner saws and leave you and me alone !
  22. But you don't like it yourself ?
  23. Its a pants idea . You said you don't fancy it yourself . So if you must have it fit it to farmer / home owner / hobby saws only and make it optional .
