I felled one that was sound ( on my front lawn ) and several years later I felled it again as it coppiced very well . Excelent fire wood .

I keep toilet roll middles . Fold and push 2 inside the first , and if you have it , put the wax from a baby bell cheese in the middle .

If you want to go all Green and that , dried birch bark is a goodun .

Its paraffin wax and burns off . No " waxy " residue left . The cheap ones in the CoOp work fine .

That is spooky Mick . We were taking 20 feet or so off the poplars right at the end near the lock gates . Got to know some of the people there too .

Oh yes , a climber I used to work for would bin an 020 chain when dull as ( in his words ) the time out taken sharpening out weighed the loss of earnings on the job ! He was shit at sharpening though !

I have tried various makes over the years including the early Husqvarna blue ones that were basically a couple of sleeping bags on each leg . Apart from an Australian pair ( Cloggers ? ) which aren't CE marked I always come back to Pfanners . -
I think I will stick to the appropriate round file and a flat file for the rakers . Thanks though 🙂

Pfanner for strides and anything that is comfortable in boots but NOT " chainsaw wellies" Instruments of torture . -
Its more the fact that they don't have proper wheel bearings , only plain steel bushes .

I was binning them every 2 weeks ! 😃 The Oregon plate is best IMHO . What is a Stihl easyfile ?

I tried those Husky roller thingys about 20 - 30 years ago . They are fine the first couple of sharpens but the plastic rollers wear down dropping the file too low . If you cant file free hand your best bet I recon is the oregon metal plate that the file clips to .

Other way round me thinks . As the cutter becomes narrower and lower ( all sides taper to the back ) you wont get the larger file in the gullet so drop down a tad .

Yes I remember when Husqvarna brought it out for home owner type saws . Didnt they call it a Pixlel chain ?
