  1. The kerf is closing on the bar ? try an under cut . look to see where the stresses /levers/principal of moments what ever you want is going to act on the log . If it is supported both ends the kerf ( slot created by you cutting down ) is going to close on the bar . So under cut so the 2 halves fall away . If it is supported one end only over cut and the unsupported end will fall away . Sorry if you know this already .
  2. Easy there jon . Don't get too slaughtered bud ! Wish I was with you . You makes I larf and that !
  3. Mmmmm . starting to get it now .
  4. I am starting to worry about infected trees due to recent posts about ash etc etc
  5. Right next to me we have possibly the largest, and I think the oldest block of yew in the country ( could be wrong here ) Kingly Vale , South downs West Sussex . Will take the dog up there and see if there are any affected trees there .
  6. I could be wrong but I think the elm shoots from the very old root systems and reach about 12 - 20 feet before the the demise takes effect .
  7. I had no idea also . just thought I would go along with it !
  8. Desperately want to Jon but you are just too far away . Sooooo have a few for me bud .

  10. Yea , but look t all the dead and dying elms in the hedgerows around here and imagine adding ash to that . work is work I know but hey , have a heart !
  11. Stopped for an ice cream in the summer .When we got back a 346 was missing from the back . It only;y takes a second .
  12. All the above and get a good accountant who knows his **** .
  13. Total disaster for the trees and countryside if that happens , short term boost for fire wood merchants .
  14. Still would cost something But yep . That's the best compromise I suppose .
  15. and so it goes around L.O.L. ! I think we all understand now , hopefully . I still say bin it ! I was from the old school of " make do and mend " but down time verses cost on an item like that makes it hardly worth doing and if you spend too much time pondering it you have lost any way . My Gran , bless her , when she died was using tea towels to dry up the dishes that were full of holes . been like that for ages . In the drawer were 4 or 5 packets of new ones but no way was she gonna open them . See were I am coming from ?
  16. Spotted ! Wondered about that possibility myself . My bar-b-que does the same thing to the extremities of my pear tree .
  17. Thanks Garden . Lets face it if its looser than it was before Then its got longer ..What label you want to put on "longer" matters not !
  18. How about wear .. causing elongation manifesting itself as perceived stretch . ?
  19. I find the oak to be a bit slow , have to mix it with some ash / syc etc . Keep warm jon
  20. I would also say Husqvarna 346 or 357 , 365 maybe . I know its a gamble buying second hand but if you asked spud it would be reliable , he might have something, he does from time to time . Did notice 3 x Husky 372 on ebay for under £250 ??
