  1. Can you get a small magnet in the drain hole,might be worth a try before stripping the engine?
  2. Keep your ropes organised so you don't stick your spikes into them, I run run the free ends of my climbing line and flip line through a carabiner on the leg loop of my harness.
  3. Do you mean the extra loop on the back of the saw? Grey plastic one?

  6. Count me in Josh,I really need to get out and do some propper climbing. Been out today to do little job for a friend, first time I've climbed without spurs on in ages and I was struggling big time.
  7. I don't know of any suppliers with facility's to test spurs. I did suggest it to my local supplier,would only need to secure a section of telegraph pole in the show room,so you could stand in the spurs.I'm guessing "health and safety" is the problem. Not sure that there are specific courses for climbing on spikes,the only training I had was for pole rescue during the cs38 aerial rescue course. I'm guessing that climbing on spurs would be required for dissmantling and sectional felling cs41? But don't think there is any specific training as part of it? Might be worth starting a seperate thread for this subject.
  8. Cheers for the suggestions everyone,I've tried a few thing and come up with this so far. Needs a little fine tuning,will probably replace the carabiner with a length of cord to make it adjustable and replace the slings with some wider ones for better comfort. Any criticisms welcomed. Brush for demonstration purposes only...
  9. Best advice I can offer is to try before you buy,I realise this doesn't help answer your question but I've found some climbing spurs agonisingly painful after even a short time wearing them. Fortunately I tried a few different types before buying,I can only wear the straight shank spurs,the "twisted" shanks were so uncomfortable I could bearly stand on them, a friend of mine is the complete opposite. I did try the the steins on but found the steel bashlins with velcro pads more comfortable and they seem (visually) more durable than the steins.
  10. 3/8 chain,36" Oregon power match bar. Clarke forest sell them they do a choice of 3/8 and .404 bars with D009 mount.
  11. I've got a 390xp,excellent on a 25" good on a 28" and I've got a 36" for it as well which it handles ok but only ever use it if I really have to.
  12. That's the sort of thing I'm after.I seem to recall a post ages ago where somone made up some straps to fit a tree motion for SRT but can't find it.
  13. Has anyone here fabricated their own shoulder straps for their harness or know of any that can be modified to fit a petzl sequoia (non srt) or skylotec? I see some other manufactures do shoulder strap kits but nothing specifically for either of my harnesses. Only needs to serve as support when carying larger saws on harness. Any suggestions appreciated,thanks.
  14. Eerr.that's a pain,two man job really if you've got someone to help. Which service have you lost,head stock ram or 3rd service ?
  15. So,no you don't need to split the boom,but yes it is a nightmare of a job.
  16. Do boom hoses on various machines regularly,worst one was a CAT 330, never had to split a boom yet,but I've only got small hands. The clamps which hold the hoses in place are the worst part,or if the pipes get tangled around each other, have had to pull them out with the van before. manitou tend to use siamese pipes,(two pipes are joined together)
  17. Good one! made my day! We've had trouble with fly tipping in a friends gate way so fabricated a home made police type stinger and covered it over,the marks on the road from where they drove off on the rims made me smile.
  18. After reading all the posts again I see your already using a diverter valve to gain the extra service,need to see pics of the valve as already mentioned,as it still sounds as though it's piped wrong.
  19. It looks to me like you don't have enough Hyd services available on the handler to operate all the services on the grab/rotator. As I see it you only have enough to operate one of the functions,ie grab open/close requires two pipes (one to open,one to close) or rotor clockwise/anticlockwise (one to rotate clockwise,one to rotate anti clockwise) difficult to say from pics,but you should need 2 services on the handler (2 seperate levers in cab or electronic change over solenoid) 4 hoses from handler to grab to operate both the functions. Am I making any sense? Or am I reading this all wrong???

  21. The October meet should be ok,think were gonna ride PCMP on the 14th sep if anyone fancies it?
  22. Defo keen to meet up for a ride,I'll be at the October crediton meet,might try and ride PCMP or cheddar 14th or 15th sep. There's a few little tracks around Exeter which are ok for a bit of bike time but all the good practice tracks are an hour away. The south west needs more places to practice but at the rate tracks are being closed there won't be anywhere left to race soon.
