  1. That's genius mate, great idea
  2. That sucks mate, hope they get you right soon. In the mean time keep posting
  3. Hi Jonesie Always makes me laugh when you refer to my postcode as exotic, you wouldn't call it that if you looked out the window tonight, lashing rain and wind approaching 40mph The best thing a supplier can offer me is a choice of delivery options but I imagine that just makes things even more complicated for you lot
  4. Postage to Highlands and Islands can be a real nightmare, I live on the isle of mull and when buying on line spend quite a lot of time looking for the best deal on postage. This generally means I'm looking for someone who uses Royal Mail as they charge the same for here as anywhere else. The other advantage of royal mail is they come here every day whereas the couriers tend to turn up only when they have a van full. Bought something off ebay the other day, advert stated it would be royal mail second class but because I "live on an isalnd" the seller decided to use a courier without asking me first, ended up taking 2 weeks to arrive. Felt like asking him whether he thought royal mail would have got to the ferry terminal and just thrown my package in the sea!
  5. Moved to the isle of mull nearly 3 years ago and put my mobile in a draw and never taken it out since. It takes a bit of doing but you can easily live without one, try it, it's a great feeling when you get used to it.
  6. can you put up a link for the sharpener please Don't worry, found it http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fiskars-7861-Axe-and-Knife-Sharpener-NEW-/330698267075?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4cff2719c3
  7. did exactly the same as agg221, runs the mill fine.

    Sunday milling

Thanks for the replies Bob - The bench is very stable at the moment, one thing I didn't mention is that it is bolted down to 2 small concrete pads just below the gravel this help with the stability but I mainly did it to stop it tipping forward which it wants to do if you sit in the middle as the seat bows outwards quite a bit . Roni - I'm on Mull, just over the water from you. Been out with the Alaskan again today, milling some lintels for the local estate. Pictures to follow if the estate manager sends them through.

    Sunday milling

Finally got round to having a play with some of this stuff, my first home made furniture. Thought I'd start with the garden bench, not so much of a problem if I messed up. So far it has just had a single coat of Linseed oil, not sure if that was the best idea, any suggestions for treatments? All comments good or bad welcome. And finally the view from the seat, yes I live in a great place
  11. The fiskars x27 is a splitting axe, using it to take out a stump around rocks would ruin it! (But it is an excellent axe though)
  12. same here - fiskars is a great axe
  13. I just use 3 screws with big washers straight through the tyre into the top of the block

    resin anchor

Bought a box of 12 tubes off ebay, about £60ish delivered. Came with a gun to fit the oversized cartridges so no problem there. Stuff works a treat, just as good as the expensive stuff at a fraction of the price. Do yourself a favour and save some money. Search for chemical anchor on ebay, loads to choose from. (also cheap nozzles)
  15. And a tyre on top of your splitting block
  16. Good luck with that, always seemed to me to be the sort of village where a few people think they are more important than anyone else (quite a few of them would be on the parish council!!)
  17. Hi Mate That's a great result for you, and also one of the weirdest planning descisions I've ever seen. Might just have to ring my folks up and tell them to make further objections to the planners :001_tt2: Bob
  18. Hi Spud Is there a point at which the compression gets too high? I guess you still have to be able to pull the saw over to start it, but what about the mechanics of it all, will it blow the saw if you go too high?
  19. Got an old Kubota, looks exactly the same as the 350, shifts an surprising amount of stuff, 350kg payload. I'm sure if I got round to making a few modifications I could do a lot more with it. The main downside i have found is it is very unstable going across slopes when fully loaded, but you will soon find out what the limits are It's in the background of the photos on this thread http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/milling-forum/41041-sunday-milling.html
  20. Finally had a sunny day and the time available to do some milling, been seriously wet in the western isles for months. Picked up a small piece of elm the other day, been down a while and was about 24% in the centre. Was hoping to get a small book shelf out of it, in the end I think I'll get a garden bench as well And one I started sanding Now i just have to work out how to build the things!
  21. Just bought a 05 double cab for £4200 so yours sounds a bit over the top to me

    Stump killer

there's been a thread running on just this subject for the last 3 days, just scroll down the page a bit, plenty of good advice
  23. I had a 171 doing this the other day, really annoying. Gave it a really good clean and it stopped, think it was just oil soaked sawdust it was draining from, so really it was my fault for not servicing the saw properly.

    drying wood

£4000 seems like a lot to charge, how big are the houses? A couple of guys up here looking at doing a similar thing, mini hydro plants seem popular as well.
  25. Here's one from last year We're lucky to have several pairs of these around us, if I dropped 3 spruce I think I could just about see a nest from my back garden.
