  1. ive been looking for some leather chaps, is this the sort of thing im after??
  2. yeah your right i must be going soft, ill book a trip in to woodbury and roll around in the gorse for a few days, that should sort me right out! i will also crack some sentry and do some wet and dry just to keep me on my toes!
  3. cheers for all the input so far guys much appreciated, i will look into all the options.
  4. hey guys, apologies if this has been covered, i did search but couldnt find alot. so here it is, which chainsaw trousers would people recommend for work in brambles? the estate i work on is overrun with them, they are the bane of my life. my stihl advance type A's have been totally ripped apart. so does anyone have any experience here they would like to share with me? cheers:thumbup1:
  5. wow that is amazing! what makes it so impressive for me is he is so controlled, all his movements are so economical and precise. cool vid aswell, strangely calming!
  6. maybe the whole set up is just to seedy.
  7. Textbook. what i cant understand is, it so clearly went entirely wrong, why not do another take with another tree instead of using that video?? there will be hundreds of people with thier homebase saws thinking that a tree falling 90 degrees to the hinge is a perfect cut!
  8. yep id say that pretty much sums it up.
  9. fair one mate, nice one. didnt mean to point out the obvious so much:biggrin: its definatley good to have your mutt with you if your happy that it will be safe, its a great life for the dog. i have had my choc lab with me at work since she was a pup and shes 2 and a half now, i work by myself so its great for me to have her with me all day and if i have to leave her at home for any reason it just feels like i have forgotten something! plus she occasionally brings me back a rabbit or pheasant so she pays her way!
  10. doesnt seem very on to have the dog loose whilst being assesed, theres enough things you need to concentrate on without a dog running around! saying that i let my lab loose on the estate i work on,like others have mentioned when the saw starts up she goes off. just need to be careful if where you work has a shoot as a dog loose when the birds have been released or during shooting season will bring down the wrath of the game keeper!
  11. indeed, those apaches are serious piece of kit. the best sound a soldier on the ground can hear when in contact!! although the progress is slow, its reasuring to see at least some of the locals will help out, and lead them away from IEDs. The lads keep each other going, aswell as the dark humour. joking about the dire situations they are in is the best way to get through it. (i should say im ex royal marine and did 2 tours in 06/07) its very sobering to hear of them being killed, and also so many injured you dont hear about. i was just saying to my mrs how i recognised the lad talking at the end when the narrator said he had been hit by an IED 2 weeks later and now has body and brain damage. had a whiskey after that.
  12. channel 5 now, a good insight into what the lads get up too in 'the ghan' good effort royals!
  13. thats bearly believable taxi for one....
  14. for a standard i would keep the oak:thumbup1: but thats just me..
  15. do you mean you have been offered the woodland to buy or the wood (ie the trees as a product)? as previously said it depends on species, and age etc. i think last year at some time an acre of decent chestnut to cut was about £500(??) may be well out but it sticks in my mind for some reason. i havent really been much help...
  16. last year i just finished fuelling up, was walking away and heard a big thud, a oak bough about 8 inches across had landed across my fuel and oil cans. if i had stayed there 10 seconds longer then i would have been brown bread. wasnt even a really windy day!
  17. sorry couldnt find the 'ditto' smily definatley agree, dont want to see the species really suffer but its got to the point now where some control is needed.
  18. heard on the news today that a trial badger cull is to go ahead in certain areas of the uk. wondering what people think about this? im all for it, if a link to bovine tb can be proved then its a good thing. but whether its legal or not alot of diary farmers will shoot them anyway!
  19. hey, i saw an ad in last weeks friday ad for a climber in kent/sussex area . possibly the same as the one above but thought id say anyway. sorry for being vague but the friday ad in question started my fire tonight!
  20. my lab holly sleeps downstairs in the kitchen where she has a bed, shes not aloud upstairs or on the sofa....unless im away then it all goes out the window as my mrs is a total softy! the dog is now on a diet imposed by me as we stayed with the girlfreinds family over xmas and they are all as soft, the dog turned slightly round!
  21. cleared up yesterdays mess. the night before last a few dead ash blew over from a wood and landed on a bt line, i cleared them up yesterday but there was alot more dead and overstood coppice leaning over the wire, so bt said they would come drop the wire so i could knock the rest over, well they turned up...about 3! so rushed over and knocked over about 100 yards worth of leaning trees racing the fading daylight. made a right mess, all on top of one another with a few real messy field maple in there just to make life easy! so spend today wading about in that happy little situation! winner.
  22. well got nothing to compete with a porsche! my mrs got me a new knife, fairly expensive ive had loads over the years but thought it would be good to have something quality. also whisky, a few books, fawlty towers box set and a spud gun which the mrs is now regretting:thumbup: not looking forward to getting back and sweating out xmas at work! hope everyone had a good one:001_smile:
  23. went out today and saw off my local hunt at battle. i am happy to say i support hunting and feild sports as long as they are done responsibly and proffesionally, that i think is the key point. as for alot of the antis as far as im concerned they have no respect for animals as they will gladly hurt the horses or hounds. i have a freind in the sussex police force who i beat with and he said if there is a protest anywhere you will see the same faces each time, be it fox hunting or anything else. they are just a miserable bunch with a hate for society in general imo. just my thoughts.
  24. my old man brought me up on clint eastwood and john wayne. my favs are probably 'the good the bad and the ugly', the original true grit and another john wayne one 'the cowboys'. the unforgiven is also very good! so many to choose from though...
  25. recruits are called nods because they are so tired the whole time they are always 'nodding' of to sleep. which normally results in press ups or getting thrown in the nearest body of cold water!
