  1. Luckily enough my local rag only has my ad and one other which is actually a sawmill selling offcuts in .7 m3 bags. However I'm not feeling the love so far this year at all. I'm sell softwood at £50 and hardwood at £75 in .7 m3 bags delivered and the margins arn't really there. It dosn't help that we no longer process on site as we changed from a yard to a small nursery with limited access (nightmare in it's self but thats another story) and we have to haul 48 bags at a time via artic from my parents a good distance away. Couple that with as everyone else says price of cord and haulage going up and it really knocks the edge off the job. But to be fair what else am i going to do?? Work in a call centre or on a check out through the winter months!!! Can't see that happening even if they'd have me
  2. We bought an old sambron 4wd rear steer off ebay 2 weeks ago its only a small thing and needs some tlc. uses more hydraulic oil than diesel lol and its started to not want to engage drive either forward or reverse. my advice is spend abit more and get a decent one. TBH all the ones i've driven loadall matbro manitoue sanderson have all been as good to operate as the next. If i had a fav it would be the loadall.
  3. I was looking through the ads in the tractor and farm trader and noticed a few of these teraw branded things so i looked them up and they mainly seem to be china clone type things, many of which i've seen before but this 10" chipper looks to be either a Junkkari clone or a Wallenstein clone. Now before everyone jumps on saying how rubbish they are without actually seeing or using one i have actually owned a 8" pto Woodpecker clone since 2001 and in that time its had 2 sets of bearings belts and blades. It's never self destructed and thrown its self in a million pieces or anything dramatic and has served us well. At the end of the day it is what it is and only cost us £1200 back then. What i'm wondering is if it performs anywhere near as well as a Junkkari or Wallenstein then £3700 is quite a bargain don't you think?? Have a look and see wha you guys think. Home Page
  4. Torque converter is like an auto box monted on the back of the gearbox so you press the clutch select a gear then let the clutch out and the mog wont move till you press the throttle. They where fitted to RAF aeroplane tugs. Capable of towing massive weights without burning clutch's.But it means you can't use your gears to slow down just brakes.
  5. HAHA when i was i kid we used to stop at Tebay services on th m6 and my granddad used to tell me about when he got his first tractor unit and the M6 hadn't been built. He used to have to go the same route up the A6. The unit was an international and the cab was made of wood LOL
  6. Jasp wilson had some porsch spaltfix300's in on part ex for between 2-3k. I dont think ebay is the place to look for plant these day's. Better of speaking to people in the industry and let them know what your after cos if they dont have it they prob know someone who does.
  7. Last thursday i was on my way upto the folks place in Dumfrieshire from my home in Lancashire and decided to take the senic route as my old firewood bus dont really like motorways. So i Followed the A6 through the lakes, sun shining radio on taking a nice steady pace and all the time in the world. Until i went through Kendal heading up towards Shap!! Sweet baby Jesus that is one of the longest steepest hills iv ever encounted. The tranny was screaming it's gonads off, down into 4th then about 3/4 of the way up into 3rd. I now know why that layby is strategically placed at the top lol. There must be a few people on here that know it well i would of thought. Anybody know of another epic hill that will rival this one? Lets here your story!!
  8. It does look very clean BUT.........................10k plus vodka and tonic is a bit rich for a mb800!! You'd be better with a 6 cylinder or at least a 900 (turbo). mb800's have about 75-80hp only.
  9. Stephen what kind of road speed do you get from your u900?? Do you think one with a torque converter will effect top speed at all?? I know engine braking is out of the question which will be sore on the old brakes lol
  10. Did it look upto much or in need of a bit of work?? I'm not a million miles away myself only in Stalmine the other side of st michaels.
  11. Does the motor sound if it's struggling??? Does it get hot or smoke?? I found it's the motor 99% of the time not the hydraulics. If it is doing the above it's most likley the brushes in the motor have gone. Don't bother with getting it reconned just buy a new motor and pump unit complete with res. the units on ifor williams trailers are very good/powerfull have no problem with 2.5t of topsoil!!
  12. Honestly???
  13. I have a 190 tipper for delivering firewood. I struggle to get 20mpg loaded+trailer!! I'm getting a mog!!! can do so much more lol.
  14. Please tell me this isn't the u900 listed on Atkinson Vos's website as in soon??? Phoned them on monday and i'm ment to be looking at it next week. It looks suspicously identical!!! Same chipbox even the same tyres (michelins i think). Also does it has the torque converter fitted to the back of the box??
  15. Hi guys i'm looking for a pto driven tree pointer and drill/auger for preparing christmas tree's and making stands!!?? Can't find any info anywhere. Don't suppose someone has one under the stairs lol
  16. Nothing new there!! It's a 1ton tracked barrow with a swing lift on it. Better of getting a second hand Kubota 3ton tracked dumper and mounting a small hiab like off a tranny just behind the engine then get it piped for a grab and your sorted. If you dig about on YouTube searching for tracked dumpers I'm sure you'll find a few with cranes on. Infact I remember a thread covering it on here some time ago and I believe someone on here uses one.
  17. Will be fine we run a a 785xl 4x4 Nash with parmiter post driver and pull a 6ton trailer with botex no problems. We also move the spaltfix log processor around our site with it but that really makes it situp abit even with weights and water ballast in the tyres. You can't beat a zetor with a sh1tty stick they really are a good machine but spares are getting rare and expensive because their all going to eastern block countries. I'm looking for a 3045 4x4 to put winch on the back myself!!
  18. Ohh i wont be chipping it trust me!! However the area got leaflet dropped mid week with plain leaflets with treecare as the heading and only mobile number on it followed by several customers reporting having a knock at the door only to find a well dressed chap with irish twang informing them that they will be doing some tree work down the street next week. The customer that informed me has an elm in the front garden which is covered by tpo and is 100% dispsite needing thinning. I know this because i met with the tpo officer on Tues and have submited the app following. The door knocker told the customer it had dutch elms and needed removing !!!??? of course he could do it at a reasonable rate already being in the area. It's common place round here ***** Jo starting a job drawing for it then leave all the brash on the drive!! I cleared up 4 sycy's and removed the stumps for a customer a couple of months back after being stung in the same way! best part was i got three other jobs of the back of that one!!
  19. I was phoned up on Monday this week and asked if could come and quote for some work. Two Leylandii 20ft+ to be remove from a back garden. No problem i said i'll pop round and have alook this afternoon if your available. The lady (who sounded something akin to Vicky Pollard) explained that she would be out and asked if i could come on Friday at 15.00hrs. No problem madem i'll put that in my diary and shall look forward to seeing you on Friday at 15.00hrs. Yesterday comes and i arrive at the address 5min early and knocked on the door......No answer so i had a quick look up the side of the house to find conifer brash everywhere heaped up about 8ft high. Continued into back garden to find two 9ft stumps that looked like they'd been attacked by a tribe of angry ring tailed lemur's armed with junior hacksaws!!! At first i was a bit miffed but then i was quite amused at the thought of how long it's going to take them to cut it all up and fill the their green bin and all their neighbours!!! The laugh we got from it made up for not getting the job!! But i hope they dont ring me and ask if i'll come and chip it for them.
  20. Hi all i'm looking to buy a daf 45/150 tipper with hiab piped for grab as i'm sick of knocking hell out of everything i run (all being 3.5t vehicles) just sick of repairing things every week. Obviously i want it registered as aggricultural for said benifits and was woundering how to go about doing so. I do know there are two tax groups for aggricultural one being a limited milage affair which wont be suitable. Any help welcomed.
  21. I bought my first chipper some months back now and i was on a tight budget!! I opted for a 5" gravity fed bearcat with shredder hopper and blower. Lots of people on here told me to stay away "parts are expensive/hard to get ahold of etc" All not true!! What people did say was the blades need to be kept uber sharp which was true!! The build of it is solid it has a 20hp kholer v twin which has more grunt than any other small chipper in its class and it also benefits from having the shredder hopper which deals with hedge and fruit tree brashing which would be time consuming cutting into little bit to spoon feed a 18/100g for example. The other thing i like is being a yankee machine a 1/2" socket and spanner will just about strip the whole thing lol. But admittedly in the short time ive had it i have already outgrown it as everyone said i would and am now looking for a bigger machine. theres a 9" bearcat on ebay right now for £2150 alot of machine for the money!!
  22. Right just spoke to the local bearcat dealer and a set of 4 reversable blades and bolts are £182.19 +VAT. I was asking about the anvil and he said that this model dosn't have an anvil just the four blades and that the blades must be uber sharp with the correct pitch to get it to create the self feed action im looking for!!? He also said most small gravitey fed chippers have one or two larger blades combined with an anvil as pointed out in earlier posts but this four blade setup works very well if not better but requires more maintenence. He went on to explain at great length about how the blades are offset so that the whole surface area of the flywheel exsposed to wood/brash will be chipped on contact as appose to the anvil design where he said you often find a sweet spot ie the bottom right corner of the chipper chute!!!?? It seems to make sense but by the time i put the phone down brain matter was leaking out my ears LOL What do you guys think??
  23. I've found a dealer around the corner from me which is a bonus!! they are phoning me with a price on monday. To be fair to the machine its solid and looks presentable. The system is just the same as the timberwolf gravitey fed machines and Entec's used kohler engines as well as loads of other brands so why do they have such a bad rep?? Parts prices and poor dealer backup?? or is it just small chipper discrimination hahaha
  24. Right guys iv bought it now so no more shoulda woulda coulda's please. I have jobs stacked up and I can't justify paying for the hire companies chipper for them when I could get a little machine and build it up. Anyway it sounds like a new set of blades then??
