  1. Banking is the so called garden the tree is in. I wouldn't turn upto a normal domestic job and chip someone conifer into nextdoors garden lol same sort of thing.
  2. Wow that far out!!! Is that due to the extra hauling and the mule or do you charge £850 a day for 3 man crew and chipper anyway???
  3. Picture this. 50ft sycamore on the side of a river bank. It's behind a row of shops in what's ment to be a back garden but resembles something out of the Congo. The branches are touching the building on one side(this is a three story building) and overhang the gardens to either side. The rear overhangs a public foot path and beyond that is a railing which drops some 20ft into the river. The only means of access for chipper is some quarter of a mile down the foot path and all arb waste will have to go out the same way. Sooo I'm thinking that ill have to borrow the parents kawaski mule to sort the humping out. Notify council as the footpath will need closing as the chipper will stand on footpath blowing chip back onto the banking etc etc. I'm think three man crew + chipper and mule 1day dismantle 1 day clear up and move all waste off site. £850 all in. Working off the lack daylight hrs in the day. What you think?? Too cheap??
  4. Fylde coast way north of Preston south of Lancaster. Tbh I couldn't sell it any high than that people just wouldn't buy it!!! My parents have sold seasoned hardwood in the Scottish borders for50 a cube for years people just won't pay more than 60ish up there. I can't believe how some of you guys down south move hundreds of tons at upto 100 a cube!!!??? How do you do it???
  5. It my first year doing logs as well. Have about 70 cm3 of seasoned larch to move and I'm not shifting nowhere near enough. I'm selling it at £45 a cm3 and there are the traveling kind going round door to door selling tranny tipper loads for £80 wet through as the only parked up at road side hopped into a farmers wood and felled random trees a few hours before. And some people are worried about upstarts undercutting them lol it don't matter if you fell extract process everything yourself and run your motors on bio diesel your still not gonna compete with people that are outright stealing their timber!!! They need flogging with a sock full of hot crap and the customers that buy it too!!
  6. Yeah is like a nog too but can't justify the money really id also like a iveco daily 4x4 5.5t but their silly money too!!!
  7. Thats exactly what i was on about restricted o licence its ment to be cheaper and you dont need x amount of grand in the bank etc etc TBH it sounds a bit of a pain for the sake of 2.5 ton payload!! Be aswell with a Bedford TM lol I also found some examples forsale on the exmod web site ranging from 3.5k upto 7.5k and those have winch on front and only showing 17k on the clock!!! look like they rolled off the production line!! Main issue seems to be brake servo as they no longer manufacture or recon them but hey why not retro fit something from a another more common truck?? Front axel is a bedford comercial jobby and in iceland they use them on 700hp chevy v8 formula off road buggies!!! No worries there then LOL Carlsberg dont make arbtrucks so im off to iceland hahaha
  8. I'll post when I get home to the pc using my phone that really ain't a mobile cos it needs a mains conection every hour or so to stay alive..
  9. Just looked up operating licence and driver cpc and it says its not required if the vehicle is only used for carrying equipment and materials used by the driver in his work. ie its not a currier/goods vehicle.
  10. What's an o license?? Is it like cat c1 for 7.5t??? When I was in the forces the motor platoon had the but where phased out. Never got near to driving one but always wanted to cos it was a bit different than a 110 landy lol.
  11. Seen a few of these about for as little as £1500 are they any use and also are they classed as 7.5t??? I think they where based on the old dodge vans with 4x4 running gear added for the mod. Any info welcome cheers
  12. Right been and had a look and its leylandii nowhere near as tall as I was told (funny how often 25ft is nearer 17-18) its single planted and has been topped before at around 12ft. There's access to the front 100ft but not down the side so a mewp isn't worth the hire cost. The side is actually longer than 100ft nearer 150ft. I'm thinking ladders with a plank tied to the top to be honest lol theirs not as much to come off as I imagined tbh. They want it clipped one side as well. I quoted £2200 as I think a week will be dragging it out. Wait and see if they ok it now. If I get it ill take pics for you all to laugh at lol
  13. Yeah can't remember which it is exactly might be 325 hobby and 325 piko are near identical but one has a lot more cutting links in it. And the one with less teath usually has them silly pre set bumper links in it too. I've got a husqvarna pullout with the different chain pitches at home ill update tonight unless one of our resident chainsaw jedi's can clear it up lol
  14. I have an efco tophandle and a 136 with a 15" bar and a 162 with a 18" bar. my dad has the 46xx??? Newer model and he loves it. We have had stihl husqy makita all sort of saws. the efco saws are pro quality and dealer service is excellent. Grunt by the bag loads!!! I'm not gonna say their stihl or husqvarna but for the price their 100%.
  15. I'm hoping to be getting a 16m mewp on the job and 8" timberwolf as access isn't a worry but I ran the numbers and I was looking at around £2100 but after a few people saying £2500 I think iv made my mind up!! Cheers guys its good to be able to draw on others experience especially when pricing as I sometimes find that I'm more of a busy fool under pricing jobs. Especially with elderly bodies I go all soft and charge 200 quid to take out 40ft pops that have been pollarded once about twenty five year since and are hidden behind a conifer hedge at the bottom of the garden with no access. my mate loved me for that one!!! Under charging is my worst bad hqbbit by far LOL
  16. Don't have to trim it up just top it. I'm gonna have a propper look in the morning to see if its been done before.
  17. I have a p reg sportrak midori 90k nice and tidy runs great bought it with 12 t&t £450 I don't think a grand is realistic as their only any use for running about they couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding so towing is out of the question. If its clean enough you should try and sell it to a young hoursy type because as a work horse your flogging a dead donkey no pun intended lol
  18. Hi people I'm a bit lost with this one and need a bit of help. Iv been asked to put in a written quote to top a conifer hedge by 6-8 feet. No problem there then. But its 200ft long and stands between 20-25ft tall. I'll be honest I've never taken on a job this big myself before. All the work I do are domestic foreigners upto now. It on a council allotment access isn't an issue and they want all the chippings to mulch which is a bonus. There is a lot of other work to come off the back of it and this might be the break I need but I don't want to look like a ***** by putting in a cheap quote and I don't want to over charge and scare them off. Can anyone giveme a sensible ball park to work with plz. Thanks Gareth.
  19. Bump bumpety bump bump
  20. Hi Groundy with cs30/cs31 cs38/39 looking for work in north west area(Lancashire cumbria). Own truck saws ppe etc Looking for something abit more permanent if possible. I have plenty of experieence handling cutting and chipping brash but want to develop my climbing skills/experience further. Thanks Gareth
  21. The family has been doing it for a fair few years but me and the wife have relocated to the fylde coast to setup on our own. Even though its our first year with no existing customer base we are averaging 12 cm3 a week of soft wood and to be fair its not even cold yet. It amazes me how many people in my area are either ripping out gas fires or having stoves put in!! I approached the local self proclaimed fireplace superstore to try and work out a deal but they already have something put in place. I find the softwood is good to handle and very economic which suits first time log buyers and the down right tight but ill be stocking hardwood next year for the people who know better.
  22. Prob need a Volvo FH10 to pull it lol pulled a few tractors behind the l200 on a 14ft ifor flatbed but its not a pleasurable experience!! So a alpine and a forestry trailer would be a tall ask I'd say not one I'd like to do every week! 7.5t beaver tail and trailer or a mini artic would be a better bet for road hauling but then your talking money again!!! I use a old single seat 2wd mule with diff lock and it goes alright for hauling a ton max out the woods but you need to ask yourself what your limits are! You want to extract large volume you need bigger kit and haulage to match if not atv and single bunk/ small trailer Is realistic with landy to move it about. You wouldn't be happy if the defender was eating clutches ever month or so and will happen if your up hill down dale all the time with tractor and trailer on tow. As earlier said maybe two trips is required for the sake o f the longevity of the equipment. This what I do if I have to take tractor and trailer anywhere.
  23. Kawasaki mule with small arb trailer for the small stuff deutz 4506 for the bigger stuff. Most of the stuff I do is first thinning or coppice where minimal ground impact is important and generally its to tight for a forwarder.
  24. I personally don't pull over but and its nothing to do with being thanked. I generally want to get where I'm going as quick as I can and when you can only avaerage 25-30mph it makes all the difference pulling over or stopping. Car drivers can make up the time lost waiting for a safe place to overtake but I can't. Hgv's are another story though!
  25. I was approached by a an arb company that was dismantling 47 large ash on country estate. it was tight and they wanted minimal ground disturbance so no large machinery. I priced the job to be what I thought to be a fair price and was point blank laughed at!!?? I'm not being funny but how much do they expect two people to work for and run a machine as well?? It was a good weeks work at the very least!!?? What kind of money do you guys charge for a weeks work?? Some people I know charge per ton others hourly rate but I'm sure nobody works for free!!!
