  1. Offer to knock £100 if their caretaker repairs any turf damage, then go nuts.

    Stihl 660

Extra bars and chains would be no added value at all for me. You've gotta assume they'll be bent/burred to hell or uneven bar rails or wobbly nose sprockets. If you're buying a used saw be prepared to replace bar/chain/sprocket amongst the other stuff that might need replacing. I bought my 660 for 500 about 8 years ago and it was spotless inside, hadn't seen much work at all.
  3. I doubt it will get much asked of it, probably spend most of its life with a blunt "blade". I think electric is a good shout, but he might want one that makes the manly vroom noise. Nice one, I'll mention it to him.
  4. Got a mate looking to buy a saw for home use. Doesn't want to spend more than £100. I initially thought a second hand ms181, but their going for almost new price on ebay 🤣 Anyone had a positive experience with cheap saws?
  5. Wasn't that Mr Pakalopodos? Very similar contribution. Well spotted.
  6. Funny thing is mate there are a few lads near me who are quicker round a tree and charge less. I get on with most of them but it's their lookout if they're cheap.
  7. Some guys I work for like to graft and be having a tailgate beer by 1pm, others want to spend a full day on site because they have nothing to go home to and enjoy the social, so they'd rather have a couple of coffee breaks and a chat. I'm okay with both ways to be honest as I generally work with people I get on well with. If I'm driving to a firm and their lads are boring twats I'll general do my work and bugger off though. I've got a needy 2 year old and an annoying Mrs so sometimes I don't want to finish early.
  8. I don't quite understand the beef. I've had people ask me for days and then falter when I state my rate, but most just get me in and decide if I'm worth it. Some people don't want to pay what I ask and that's fine. The upside is I tend to work for the sharper folk who can price work well. Others are just desperate for competent guys. I did a 2 hour day last month for full day rate. There's a lot of firms in the busier areas who work their arses off for a low rate all the time and I'm quite happy not to work with them. The flip side is lads with 2 years experience thinking they can go out and charge what the competent guys are charging. If you're willing to work for less than nobody will offer to pay you more.
  9. 30 Feb next year, a reliable source tells me.
  10. Do you have plans to host these elsewhere in the country? Would be interesting to come along to see clearly what is proposed (and occasionally comment that two rope working is a load of bollocks).
  11. Are you denying that desirable jobs are paid less in general than less desirable ones? I wasn't for a minute suggesting that the you don't know your job etc, but simply put, you'd have to pay me more to deal with human waste than for me to drive a shiny fire truck.
  12. That doesn't work with feckless 20 something year olds who will do á little as possible in a day. Yeah but people want to do tree work because of the glory and bitches. Pretty simple really, jobs perceived as fun or heroic are undervalued by the volume of people looking to get into the trade. That's why arbtalk's resident poo-shifter is doing way better fiscally than the majority of us.
  13. I spoke to a mate on the phone earlier. Just so you all know.
  14. I've always liked the under armour heat gear, but these days my figure isn't as trim as it once was, and if cyclists have taught us anything, there's nothing more tragic than a fat cvnt wearing spandex.
  15. The 880 that I've used was no faster than my 660 on a 30" bar. I think they only prove their worth on the really long bars. I wouldn't even bother with the 660 for that though. Why do you need a bigger saw?
  16. Yeah I'll get a couple ordered. What woolpower base layer do you have?
  17. Holy Thread Revival! I've just chucked most of my base layers and work shirts away as they either stink or don't fit me any more. Looking for a a couple of base layers for the winter (probably going to go with woolpower) and a couple of general work t-shirts. Are pfanner still top rated?
  18. I'm definitely in the latter camp there, my handwriting looks like a special needs kids.
  19. Are you qualified to write up a lift plan? I'd be cautious, anything goes wrong and your insurance will try hard to find a reason not to pay out
