    Knots are for gays. On a serious note I took @Mark Bolam s advice on a hitch with a chicane while my zig zag is back with petzl, and I love it. Running a knut. Can't quite place how it's better than a wrench but it certainly is

    That's what I figured in a nutshell Pete. You're not going to rely on it if it really matters. Any insight into how its better than just a thick hinge? I thought less potential for a barber chair if there's a really strong pull, but not sure if that checks out.

    This seems to be the new trendy felling cut on social media. I believe the intended application is getting side leaners to hold a hinge. I'm always skeptical about stuff like this. Reckon it's more for YouTube likes than anything. Most of the comments are noshing off the poster so I assume they're people with little to no arb background. Any time served fallers using this cut to good effect? I'm happy to be proven wrong but I struggle to see how this is better than just leaving a thick hinge.

    You can help yourself get a better price by moving it all up to the gate, and stacking it with the butts (wider ends) pointing towards the access. Remove anything with metal or roots attached. Do the leg work and whoever does it doesn't have to spend any longer than necessary.

    I think you'd be lucky to get it done for that in London. Most tree surgeons hate chipping waste created by other people. There's plenty of quiet tree surgeons at the moment though so I might be wrong. Your best bet would be to find a local Facebook group and post on there, you'll get a few bites I'm sure. Maybe go through the pile and remove any thing that isn't strictly branch wood before you post.

    Like I said, I'm far from an expert on the matter. The OP has stated there are no TPOs on the trees affected. So he can do anything with them without the involvement of the LA. He could top, fell or even several the roots lawfully if he so chose, but now they're planning permission in place he has to jump through these hoops? It doesn't make sense. To the OP, might well be more cost effective to remove the nearest tree prior to submitting anything more to the council. Could you perhaps post photos of the trees to give us an idea?

    I'm by no means an expert on the subject. I'm surprised you had to go to the extent of an arb survey for trees that weren't protected by a tpo or CA. It wouldn't be the first time planning officers have acted outside their remit. If they aren't protected you can basically do what you like to them whether it's felling them to make way for your extension, or simply by ruining them with the proposed works. I think you need a second opinion, preferably by a qualified surveyor with no conflict of interest.

    Who wants to be climbing in a 10 year old saddle? You'd have to replace bits so frequently it would be more cost effective to buy two standard ones

    It's quite apparent you could learn a lot from more educated members of this forum if you weren't trying to be smarter than you are.

    Not sure, thought most of them were 3.2 V6 The Grand Cherokee used to run the 2.7 CRD block which was pretty bulletproof but they moved on to a less reliable 3.0 Engines that live too long don't make the manufacturer much money.
