  1. I'm in Rugby dude, happy to go for a rec climb sometime, not that you'll learn much from me! If you want to learn ladders and replacing BT lines, Bolams your man.
  2. If a leaner is too small for a dogs tooth surely a sharp chain will do the job fine???
  3. Sometimes for fun when on a dismantle I like to see how far I can get out on a branch before it snaps. You can usually go further than you think, though once or twice I've been swung into the stem holding the end of a snapped branch
  4. I'm 26 but even when I'm double that my mental age will remain 17. That's what counts.
  5. With a splitting maul sharp is not the aim. With an axe it's everything.
  6. The XTC and the Hi Vee are both fantastic ropes.
  7. Literally how long is a piece of string! "How much would you charge..."
  8. It really depends how long my morning ablution takes. It'll be less once I eventually find out if a Husqy or Stihl is better.
  9. If the other firm can do the job for a lower price at a profit then fair play to them. You should look at what enables them get the job done faster and cheaper. If they cannot make a profit on the price they've quoted then walk away and let them make their loss. No point matching their quote to get the job if it won't benefit you.
  10. Sooo, how much should a foreman earn? I agree with the above though, a good climber doesn't necessarily make a good team leader, and vice versa. I consider myself a reasonable climber, no more or less, and I'm pretty good with sharing the little I know with newer climbers. I'm a poor team leader though, and seem to be more pally with the newer guys, rather than being harsh when it's needed.
  11. Perhaps, but as Matheck has proven: trees WILL fall on your house and kill your children. A gentleman in a flat cap told this to my mother once. It is all the client needs to know.
  12. Great. Every morning when I lace my Airstreams up I'll have that image to contend with. May your morning glory suffer the same fate as your Sugi bar
  13. I feel like I need a prize £30
  14. How do you know about my saw decorations?
  15. Life has made you cynical, fella! Benefit of the doubt. If you turn out to be right I'll join in with the fun
  16. Your best bet would be to try a few on at your nearest dealers. Failing that I've heard nothing but praise for the Distel Geckos. Do you climb with spikes to check for protected species?
  17. Not really. The 560 needs to be well balanced, as it's an all purpose saw. The 572 won't be used by many for snedding, which is where the outboard clutch is at it's best. Personally I prefer an inboard clutch for ease of chain swapping. How much difference do you think it really makes to how you use a saw. To choose a saw based on its clutch placement would be just daft
  18. It was always ambitious to hope to beat each years total I wonder how it compares to the first years takings I think it's a real testament to our industry that a ground of people (albeit rough, illiterate tree cutters) can come together and help make a difference like this. I wonder how many other trades would do that. Makes me proud. Hopefully everyone is feeling pretty good about this.
  19. Rubbish You'll just side with whichever is more orange 135 revs higher, but the 211 has more torque, is easier to start, and more reliable. Plus the Stihl doesn't come with a crap bar. 50cc and above, Husqy all the way
  20. Well there be a thread here like last time? Won't be able to make the chat room.
  21. Haha awesome. Gotta be tough not to swamp the poor lad on the ground!
  22. Let me guess, up to 2" dia logged up? Fun looking job, though the novelty soon wears off with a big saw on spikes Any targets?
  23. It's how I win fights too.
  24. I only do that when I can't get the manitou into the back garden.
  25. Haha brilliant!
