  9. Hi Guys, We have a call off contract with a client, and have a job coming up very imminently, being call off work i dont have any details until the client sends the work order, but then we have to get the work complete within 48 Hrs. I will be in need of a timber grab / haulage on East Kent in the immediate future. I know this is no help but our client has a roughly 1m diam tree which we need to cut up and remove in a hurry. The client usually removes the waste but on this occasion we must do it if possible so i am after contacts for grabbing away the bigger stuff! Due to the way our contract works, i have not seen the tree yet so do not know the actual dimensions or type of tree, so would just like a price to remove either 1 artic load or 2 8 Wheeler loads from East Kent, exact location is unknown at the mo. Both us and the client treat the timber has waste, so please price for it as waste, not as a free haulage dependent on the value of the timber, the client just wants a fixed fee to get the job done. Vauge i know, but any takers? What you quote is what we will pay, whether it be a full load or 2 sticks! Thanks CBB
  10. Each to their own, I'm not here to shoot anyone down, we all do it different ways, different kit, and as gets brought up over again charges should be costs + profit whoever you are, any way I hijacked this thread, so I'll end this derail as it was my fault! I agree The industry allows what the others have posted, would be great to see it being higher, but in reality those figures are about right
  11. For the sake of a real comparison i would be genuinly interested for one of you arb guys to post up a non bull **** list of your kit that you need to do your run of the mill days work, im talking just the 90% of the arb world run of the mill reducing and felling commercial trees (NON FORESTRY) . EXCLUDING the big companies that run MOGS and Artics with grabs, as i could start harping about tractors with flail arms and impact protection vehicles, so for this lets just keep it basic, a run of the mill day pollarding street trees with a 3.5 / 7 Tonner, Ill list a run of the mill kit list with prices for Standard Commercial GM, im genuine, no bull ****, just a fair comparison.... 2 man crew.... (dont include wages for this, just kit) 3.5T Tipper Van - £23,500 Plant Trailer - £2300 Ride on Triple Mower- £38,000 2 x Etesia Push Mowers - £1750 2 x FS 400 - £1400 1 x BR600 - £500 Line Marker - £850 1 x HL95 - £600 Weedkiller Sprayer - £120 =£69K for the Kit + Daily Wages of the crew who by the way arnt just any old john boy as weve only got skilled guys who dont damage things and smash windows all the time
  12. I am going to throw the cat amongst the pigeons here but........Now i am not saying anyone in THIS tread has put grounds maintenance down, but i read over and over that 'i put a quote of £xyz in and got told its too expensive, do they realise the truck and chipper sitting on their drive costs £xyz' I would argue that the cost of our GM kit exceeds that of a tree surgeon, so why is it always the consensus that GM should be charging less than tree work? All of our guys have to be trained too now days, well at least they should be, i know many companies dont! so training costs are similar in good companies. Plus our kit costs more! a crew with 2 mowers, 2 strimmers, 1 blower, 1 line marker, 1 ride on machine, 1 trailer, 1 truck. The small tools all cost similar in respect of Arb & GM, but your chipper costs MUCH less that my Trailer & Rideon Machines just saying
  13. Questions is.....was the person taking the video 100m back!
  14. When employers pay employees they deduct the employees ni contributions from their wages and send it to hmrc, employers also have to pay a bit of ni for each employee that have, i believe the allowance hmrc are offering is for the employers ni part only. by virtue of that i don't believe employees nor s/e people can claim this (unless you employ through a paye scheme) it is to encourage employers to employ more people n spend money in the economy this is not gospel, but from the literature we've read that's how it seems. If your eligible you should get a letter from your paye office as i said that's how the letter read, but in sure hmrc can clarify
  15. Hi all, The above few descriptions do sound more like the streetworks qualifications. Unfortunatly if you go the streetworks route they try to cram as much into as little time as possible (normally 1 day), The sector scheme route breaks TM down into 2 sections, highspeed (50mph duals , 60mph dual & motorways), and low speed (singles 30,40,50,60 and duals 30, 40). Highspeed is sector 12 a,b,c and is impossible to get unless you works for a high speed company that does crash cushion and motorway works everyday To be able to do all tm on the low speed section (sector 12D) youll need the following: T1 mobile works (mowing, gully sucking, sweeping)- 1 day classroom T2 (static works on single 30-60, shuttle working, lane closure, stop / go, inc lights) - 2 days classroom and centre based assessment – card issued once 3 live assessments complete T3 - (lane closure on duals 30-40), 1 day classroom – card issued once live 3 live assessments complete. T4 - (convoy working), 1 day classroom – card issued once 3 live assessments complete. T5 - (3 & 4 way lights), 1 day classroom – card issued once 3 live assessments complete. T6 – (Site Supervisor) - 2 day course T7 - (office manager / tm drawer / work planner) 2 days classroom The courses run at about £200 - £400 each, and the live assessments cost about £250 EACH!!! so as you can see to get to be a basic TM operative you need to get T2, but to get T2 you must firstly do T1, even when you have T2, you will need a T6 as you MUST have a supervisor employed by the company to be in charge of he installation crews, and even before that all tM should ideally be planned by a T7! now my fingers hurt...........and just to make it all worth while, these tickets DO expire! and need re training every 3 - 5 years Bottom line, if you dont have ALL of the correctly employed / trained people in your firm T1,T2, (T3-5 if needed) T6,T7 and there is an accident you will be liable, like wise if your tree surgery insurance does not cover the installation of TM you are not covered. If anybody want more info on the sector schemes or TM in general or would like to ask about an impending job please just ask. Although i must add i am not FULLY conversant with the 'streetworks' training as we only go the sector route as that is what, as a TM company we must have (i just know that the street works is not as indepth!) Peace out CBB
  16. I hope no one thinks im jumping in unjustly here, but id like to shed some light on some people misunderstanding of Chapter 8. This is in no way pointed at the OP or subsequent posts! Ive just noticed some posters arguing over how long tickets take and how much the costs are. There are 2 main types of training and quals, 'Streetworks tickets' or 'the sector scheme' routes. If you work for private, commercial or utilities and just want to get a 'TM qualification' under your belt, the 'street works' route is best as its much cheaper, faster and a tad easier that the 'Sector scheme' route If you plan to work for council highways or the highways agency they WILL normally require sector scheme and not streetworks, Sector scheme is much more difficult to obtain and takes longer than the streetworks tickets, but is much more indepth IMO. I just thought id throw that out there as i do read quite often about how long / how much is costs to become 'TM qualified' , these days there is a lot more to it! if you go the sector scheme route, there are 7 units from mobile works op - supervisor, each unit needing at least a 1 day course followed by at least 2 live onsite assessments, if you dont do the assessments, you arnt qualified, some people think that by doing the courses in the classroom on sector scheme that you are qualified, but unfortunatly this is no the case. If anyone has any questions just ask (we are a TM company!) CBB
  17. jesus look at my spelling, must learn to spell check
  18. Hi Guys, Depend on teh route you wish to go, if you just want the ability to set up TM / Lighs / stop go for use in line with your commercial / domestic / utility work you can go the sctreet works card route. However if you wish to work on Local Authority or highways works you will need to go the Sector Scheme Route as its a requirement of government and the HA through your local authority. Something else to bear in mind is the requirement of your insurance.....point 1, are you actually covered for TM.....point 2, what quals do THEY want you to have to cover you......just a few things to bear in mind. 19. Hi, where bouts are you in the uk? We are a TM company down south, so if you want any advice drop us a PM, id say same as above, lane closure with lights, if its on a bend stop / go can be dangerous, and with lights the TM company can hold on red for a few minutes at the most dangerous times! Like i said PM me if you want any further advice or rough figures! Lee
