  1. Hi all, I have just recieved my NPTC certs and was hoping there ould be a couple of nice shiney NPTC Qualified stickers in the envelope so I could stick some on my van but no joy:sneaky2: Does anyone have a couple they would be prepated to part with??
  2. Well done mate, I just passed CS31 too!
  3. Cheers for the replies and advice! I did consider the jap stuff, L200, shogun etc etc and also the ford ranger but all of these seem to suffer from overheating probs and end up on Ebay selling for parts as they are so expensive to repair! Also your looking at upwards of £2000 for a rough one. Kind of makes the disco look like a bargain!
  4. No worries!
  5. Thanks for the advice! Im aware of the rot problems but welding and fabrication arnt a prob for me so looks like i might be on the lookout for one soon!
  6. Just man up and get an account! If you do MOt welding tell your friends etc and do some jobs for them, this will soon pay for the account!
  7. Hi, Im thinking of getting a Discovery to use for my tree work. Im looking to sub contract as a groundie so I shouldnt need a tipper (If i do have to move waste then the disco will tow a trailer). I think the advantages of a disco are; 1) Reasonably cheap! 2) Nice to drive (compaired to a defander...) 3) Will Tow well. 4) Obviously 4WD so will come in handy for off road sites. If I get one im going to strip the back seats out and cover the windows in sticky vinyl so it will basically be the same as a disco commercial so lots of room to store all my kit, saws etc etc.... Does anyone have any opioions on Discovery`s? Which is best, 200tdi or 300 tdi?? Auto or manual...? Regards, Anthony.
  8. Good effort on scrounging a free munch but the words "Ginsters" and "cornish pasty" really shouldnt be used in the same sentence! lol!
  9. Day two of CS31...............
  10. Cheers:)
  11. When and where is the Capel Manor show?
  12. Cheers Tom, sounds good!:)
  13. Thankls guys! Well choughed, was a bit concerned about my bore cuts as every time i tried it the damn thing kicked back but after investigation it was found to be the stihl chisel chain I had fitted, changed to an oregon semi chisel and I was fine! Bring on the felling next week!:)
  14. Large firms are ok but alot more cut throat with very little loyalty! Also have to wait for ages to get paid, if you have enough of a finantial buffer then it might be worth a shot. Private work can be a pain to get money out of sometimes but in my experience you usually get your money quicker in the long run.
  15. Thanks!:)
  16. Hi, Had my CS30 asscessment today and passed, well chuffed! CS31 starting on monday, bring on the trees!
  17. Thanks for all the replies! I have sorted it now, got an Oregon semi chisel chain with guide links, what a differance! Did some practice bore cuts with no probs at all! Happy bunny now!:)
  18. Sorted, oregon semi chisel!:)
  19. Hi rob, Thanks for the advice, I think semi chisel is the way forward. i checked the depth guages and they were fine, it was a brand new chain but checked them anyway!
  20. Cool thanks for the advice, I did suggest this to the instructor but he saod ot wouldnt make a differance! My thinking was that a semi chisel chain is less aggressive than a full chisel so would be less likely to cause kickback.
  21. Cheers dave! I couldnt understand why it was happening as everyone else did it with ease, including me when I used Pasty`s saw! Doing my training at Kernow, the place you recommended! Got accessment on friday so need to get this sorted before then! What type of Oregon chain should I ask for, chisel, semi, etc,etc........
  22. Hi, I had my second day of training for CS30 yesterday. Saw was working fine, had a new Stihl rapid Super chain fitted. Im having trouble doing my kickback while starting bore cuts. Starting with the underside of the nose is fine but as soon as I bring the upper quadrant of the nose into the cut I get kickback. My instructor said that some Stihl chains were renowned to do this, he had a go and at first it kicked back with him too! I tried his saw and I did it fine. After doing some research on the net it seems that the stihl Rapid Super (RS) chain can do this. I completed all of the other cuts fine so Im now wondering if its the chain?? Anyone had any experience of this?? Any advice??? Thanks, Anthony.
  23. Depth guages are fine, its a new chain but checked them anyway! i think I might be not going in level and this is causing the chain to snatch in the cut. Funny thing was I tried the instructors saw and I did it fine!
  24. Last day of training today, accessment on friday........... Went ok, alot for my mind to take in though! Crosscutting was fine apart from my Bore Cuts, the damn saw kept kicking back at me, instructor had a go and it did it to him too! Looks like im going to have to spend the next 2 days practicing bore cuts.....................
