  1. Today's offerings, wall art for sale, prices on my fb page👍
  2. [urlhttps://www.facebook.com/Si.at.wisewoodsculptor/posts/1564372100302161][/url] Any anglers on here?
  3. Willow is very woolly and not ideal for carving, doesn't give crisp detail and rots pretty quickly. Try some different species and you'll see the difference yourself 👍
  4. Thanks guys, I don't do charity stuff very often but this is going to a new local fishery for injured servicemen.
  5. Following the current fishy theme😃
  6. Nice mate, I'd leave it natural, it will silver up soon enough 👍
  7. Cut the bar stud channel through to the end to match the Stijl bar. I've done it with a carving bar, use a dremel👍
  8. Either clamped vertically in a jawhorse or stand it against a fatter log and fix in place with two ratchet straps
  9. It's expensive compared to the beam maker but the Alaskan mini mill runs on a track and cuts vertically. Used alongside an Alaskan mill, once you've cut your board thickness the mini mill can it your edges to 90 degrees
  10. Wondering if price has changed much, I've seen posts on here but they are a couple of years old now. Oak Cedar Redwood
  11. Plenty of wood left for refining Russ Try and thin the wings and tail and see how it looks. I find the hardest part of owls is the face, such odd looking things. Keep practicing mate, I've done hundreds of them and I'm only just getting to a point where I'm liking the results.
  12. Cheers Ian, trying to capture realism and movement with just the saw.
  13. Some owls from the past week.
  14. 1/4 chain is the only chain you can run on a dime tip. Quarter tip can run both 1/4 and 3/8 lo pro.
  15. If you don't need the money then just get your costs covered. I've done work for quite a few schools and have had little work off the back of them, so don't expect commissions to roll in on the back of a freebie 😊
  16. As mentioned above could be chain is too slack, something I often do too. Can't see properly on my phone but looks like the chain has some rollover on its underside. Have you got a power file? I dress the tip with powerfile as the normal method with a file won't touch the steatite edge. Once you've sorted the bar just put a new loop on. Are you filing the cutter heals ?
  17. Maybe I misunderstood, is the school expecting this carving as a gift? Have they discussed a budget at all? I know most schools are strapped for cash but they should still have some funds available. If it was playing equipment or building work they would pay the going rate without any quibbles. If it was dismantling a tree at the school would you charge them for it? It's your choice to offer your time/skills for free but you should at least get them to cover any expenses you incur.
  18. Charge a decent amount and get a deposit of them to pay for your saw.
