1. Chaps. Oak flooring needs to be very dry before you can use it (about 12%) or less. That's before final machining any t&g or rebates. Remember that the wider the board the higher risk of cupping when it's fixed. I would buy the flooring in and save your home grown oak for structural beams and posts or ledges and braced doors etc. If fixing over underfloor heating you'll need engineered boards or they will warp like crazy. I used 200 & 220mm boards on my self build. Fixed down with hidden 'tonguetight' fixings.
2. Hi Steve. I have emailed you the drawings as I can't find away of positing them as an attachment on here. Jez
3. Yep. These are really quite simple to understand and follow. Give some good explanations of the framing principles. One of them is based on American framing styles but still a good read. I learnt a lot when I was doing my self build so just PM if you need more help. Regards, Jez
4. Not very good at attaching photos, sorry!
5. Found some of the books I got that helped me to understand the framing joints and principles, all available from Amazon etc. Will find my framing drawings asap. Jez
6. Yes well chuffed, two years bloody hard work though! Will sort the drawings out in the morning and post them. PM me your emails and u will email them out as there are quite a few drawings. Jez
7. Hi, just finished my self build oak frame house. The framing part was done by the Pros at Border Oak but I have a full set of electronic framing drawings if you want them for reference. Jez
8. Got you Pm Shavey, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. Will speak to the good lady at home as she hold the purse strings and has opinions on what lubricant we should use !!!!! 😜😜😜😜😜
9. Yep I heard that it's a good small saw, with a few minor niggles. Ta
10. Thanks. I have pm'd him. Just hoping he's gentle with me😉
11.

Shavey.

Been referred to you as I posted a thread in the chainsaw forum re a husky 135 or Dolmar 420. Everyone seems to think the 420 is the way to go and I should get a price from you!

12. Ok thanks, will PM him. Seems like the consensus is the Dolmar. Funny, I thought orange was the new black;-)
13. Ok Shavey, how much for a dolmar 420 ?
14. Hi all. I'm in the market for s new smallish saw. I can get a husky 135 for about £185 from a UK dealer, which is a pretty good price for an entry level saw or do I pay around £265 for the dolmar from German Amazon? Again a good price for a good small saw! Cutting mostly fallen stuff for firewood. Not looking for a big felling saw. Is the dolmar with the extra? Cheers. Dirtybiker.
15. Should have said I can collect in my pick up too. Jez
16. Hi. Any of the smaller sections going for firewood, I live in Felsted and happy to pay for stuff dropped on the driveway for me cut and split for future burning. Pm me if so. Jez
17. Splits nice and easy when it's green, bitch when it's dry. I like burning it on my Jotul wood burner, I'd have some tomorrow if given it.
18. Buy a paslode gun. I have both and the paslode is much better!
19. Miniture trackers! Here goes..... 3 types available. GPS based (sat nav technology) GSM based ( mobile phone technology) RF based. (Radio frequency) GPS and GSM are widly available, and are relatively cheap. Both are the size of a glasses case But both are very battery hungry and need to be wired in for any life expectancy, they can be tracked via iPads and smart phone apps etc. RF is smaller, about the size of a large box of matches and uses much less power but you need expensive kit to track it. All of the need to 'see the sky' to work correctly so positioning them is crucial. Not suitable for small kit really, more for vehicles and large plant etc. Sorry there is nothing out there like you see in the spy movies😃
20. To be successful, you need to be right in the middle of the community. In fact the dead centre is best!!!!!
21. Thanks for that. Will let him know and then it's up to him what he would like to do.
22. Saw this on my neighbours tree, what is it ? Is it gonna be an issue?
23. It's the Daily Mail, what else do you expect?
24. No probs mate, as and when you have time. Get out for ride in the glorious sunshine & drought ridden countryside! ha ha😜
