  1. Somewhere near the Pyrenees, either South of France (not the posh part)or Northern Spain (basque county). Stunning. Just a bit warmer for my old bones. People are nice too;-)
  2. Surely Aspen would be more healthy for the operator:001_smile:
  3. Fracking under national parks ! Utter madness!!!! I wonder how many politicians ( both right and left wing) have got links to these 'fracking' firms? Or is that just me getting old and cynical 😀😀😀😀😀
  4. How about a bit of 22 gauge aluminium bent and pop riveted onto the oil tank sealed underneath with something like 'petropatch' (a fuel tank sealer) or JB weld or good old epoxy, making sure you fill the pop rivet heads up too. It's only the oil tank so much thicker liquid than fuel and less likely to seep out. A small leak of chainsaw oil on a saw only used now and again isn't an issue! IMHO
  5. Wow thanks, I've learnt some thing there! Every day is a school day. 😀
  6. Thanks for all the info all. That's great👍
  7. Cheers Alec. Think that's a done deal then, will probably have to run the rebuilt Echo up to spud for a set up after the rebuild. Where do you source your Aspen Alec? Think the nearest place to me (Felsted)is Ernest Doe in Braintree! Jez
  8. Wow! Glad someone is fluent in the ancient dialect of 'mendip logs'! Thought I was gonna have to reach for google translate 😀😀😀😀
  9. Hi all. Sure this has been covered before but as I only use my saws occasionally mostly for firewood etc. I was thinking it would make sense to go over to Aspen as I understand that the fuel can sit in the tank for long periods without going off! My question is do I have to prepare my machines in any special way to go over to Aspen. For instance tuning them differently ? Obviously I will completely drain old petrol out before refilling. I have a new Dolmar 420 from Shavey and an Echo Cs350WES that I've just completely rebuilt (new barrel and piston), so now would be a good time to switch over. Cheers
  10. Utter rubbish, never have voted for either ! Regards Mr Average ;-)
  11. Great, thanks! Just looked them up and both seem to have them at about £7.50 each side! I was hoping they would be a few pence each! Oh well 👍
  12. Hi rebuilding my small Echo CS 350wes and have sourced new barrel and position kit and thought Id replace the crank oil seals whilst I'm at it just in case but struggling to source these crank oil seals. Think the code is v505000011 but can only find them abroad. Are they sold singly or as a pair? Any pointers reasonable UK based spare parts dealer would be helpful. Cheers all. Jez
  13. Not a chisel but I have found its quick and easy in green oak to use Augers or Forst er bits to rough out mortises (overlapping the holes drilled out) then square up the sides with your chisels.
  14. His speech was entertaining and most people would generally agree with the sentiment held within BUT in naming Coco Channel as a symbol of a great French person is a bit of a faux par! She was proven to be a nazi collaborator, Jew hater and believed to be spying on behalf of the SS. Still, never let a bit of history get in the way of a good rant. 👍
  15. Almost nothing. The Ford is a Mazda just rebadged with minor cosmetic changes. They are good work horses and can tow lots due to a fairly low gear motor but aren't great on fuel. You'd be lucky to get 30 mpg unladen sub 25mpg towing. They can pull lots ( hence the ethnic traveller types liking them) and have good ground clearance, parts are reasonable. Hope that helps.
  16. Yeah. Think the wife's Qashqai getting the petrol😀
  17. Hi. Have a full sealed Jerry can of petrol in the garage been in there since June! Am I still ok to use it in my equipment or has it already gone off. Whats the time frame for storing petrol, how long can you keep it. Also what are the symptoms of stale petrol? Hard to start, cutting out etc???? Cheers
  18. Have a look at the Irwin/ Marples sets of chisels. A good well know brand that a lot of chippys use. A set of six in the most common sizes up to 2 inch wide can be had online for £70. I've had a set for at least 20 years and still going strong. The clear yellowish handle ones are fab. Hope that helps.
  19. Paring chisels are elegant delicate tools designed to take carefully controlled slivers to achieve a precise fit between components. Pushed rather than struck, paring chisels are often ground at a relatively shallow angle and kept very sharp so they cut with minimal resistance.
  20. Robert Sorby Slick - three and three eighths inch Enlarge £79.99 Add to basket [back to slicks] Product Description A large 3 3/8" Robert Sorby slick. This specialist chisel is designed for the timber framer and boat builder. The slick is used for cleaning up uneven surfaces on massive projects. The blade is produced from high carbon alloy steel, creating the perfect combination of hardness and toughness, ensuring a razor sharp edge with outstanding edge retention. In traditional fashion each blade is rounded along its length and is fitted by means of a socket to a slender ash handle. This balance allows the slick to be pushed - not struck - in the time-honoured fashion. The blades are also off-set thereby giving clearance when working less accessible areas like deep mortices. The working face is machine ground in order to produce a slightly hollow surface for ease of honing. Meanwhile the back face is rounded off for comfort and safety. Width: 3 3/8 inch Overall Length: 27 inch Tool Manufacturer: Robert Sorby The OP specifically mentioned timber framing and green oak so a slick is just one of the chisels used in traditional timber framing!!!!
  21. A lot of framing chisels are called 'Slicks' Google Slick chisels and you'll see what you need.
  22. Try TLC Direct. Big electrical wholesaler with lots of branches and online too with next day delivery and guarantees. Prices were surprisingly cheap.
  23. Christ on a bike! Can't believe we're getting misty eyed about the Waffen SS. That lot make ISIS look like school boys! I've been to the death camps in Poland and they'll make a grown man go weak at the knees. Get the thread back on track and less 'Daily Mail' type rhetoric on a Sunday morning ! On the upside. Jhiadi John got topped this week. 👍
