  1. They look good. Do they last well?
  2. Thanks Beau, I'll have a play. Did you use a particular type of tarp?
  3. The logs are within the wood so not too windy, but I'm keen to keep them in individual rows to maximise airflow. Keep them coming:thumbup:
  4. Tidy site, tidy mind and all that:001_smile: Good idea on the IBC's but a bit costly. I can make lids for next to nothing with pallets and DPM but looking for something less involved.
  5. Thanks Rowan, I am blessed with acres of concrete pads and roadways courtesy of the US Air force using the wood during the war. On a slightly different note, I'm after some advice on the best way to keep the rain off my firewood cages. I can lid them all (200) individually or run some form of plastic/canvas sheet down the rows. Anyone got any good ideas? Many thanks, TVI. The plan is to butt them all up in long lines.
  6. Really needs to be 30 years plus. Good, clean butresses are more important than stem diameter. Overstood coppice stools are no good, needs to be maiden trees.
  7. Audiobooks:thumbup: Turns a chore into a pleasure.
  8. They are mad keen for Hurley butts over in Ireland. They have exhausted their own supplies and are having to import from Germany and Denmark as well as from the UK. Pays hugely better than firewood, especially as they do all the work themselves, or pay someone to do it for them. The Ash looks so good partly because Logan (the contractor and Arbtalk regular) is a perfectionist and creates very neat stacks. I've caught him several times checking the geometry with a laser level, and on one occasion de-leafing the top with his dust buster! In all seriousness he is bloomin' good at what he does and I would recommend him to anyone.
  9. I don't think you can beat working in the woods Treemoose! I count myself extremely fortunate to be able to do it.
  10. Sorry Chris, I was just bring a Muppet. The bulker lorry came over from Ireland via Liverpool.
  11. This is about 25% of what the disarmingly dashing Logan has cut and is extracting from the Wood. Almost exclusively Ash. The stems on the Right are going for milling. Picture was taken from the top of a lorry that was picking up hurley butts. Very good return on Ash for hurleys if any of you woody folk are planning any Ash thinning.
  12. I'll have to take your word for it Geoff, having never met our furry friend!
  13. Mog porn? I was expecting you in a mankini Felix.
  14. Licorice allsorts, chocolate covered raisins and Gressingham Duck & Hoisin Sauce flavour crisps. And yes, Mrs Idiot is away this weekend.
  15. I would be interested. Can you PM me some details?
  16. And I'll take the loose change for backing you up:001_smile:
  17. I'm with Steve on this one, although the bark looks a little smooth.
  18. Hornbeam? Oh come on, you were all thinking it!
  19. Not my actual machine but I have the same loader.
  20. You can get rear loaders as well. I'll take a picture of mine. You would get much greater lift capacity with a forklift attachment though.
  21. Great stuff folks, keep it coming:thumbup:
  22. Is that the Jona? How much can you lift with the loader?
