  1. They will get more logs but less wood, although it would depend a bit on how the bags were filled.
  2. A space cadet eh? I thought as much:001_smile:
  3. No, pretty sure it was Dr. David Banner.
  4. You are most kind Mr Shavey:thumbup: I must send you out one of the new t-shirts I've had printed up. I'm really pleased with them! There is a big picture of me on the front, and on the back it simply says IDIOT in a large, easy to read font. Pretty cool eh?
  5. I can't speak for the other me, he gets all tetchy!
  6. I would have thought that the seedlings would do alright without killing off the coppice stools. Should still be plenty of light getting in. Must admit to not knowing what the official guidance is though.
  7. Thanks Rowan, Yes, I have a very simple set-up, just a chainsaw, chainsaw bench and small 8ton log splitter. The sensible option would be to get a processor but I quite enjoy doing it long hand, especially the spliiting as I just plug myself into an audio book.
  8. Abolishing stupid comments would leave me with nothing to post!
  9. I tend to go intra-veinous once I get home. Cream of mushroom soup straight into the bloodstream. Means I can eat and chat simultaneously.
  10. I do the odd bit of work too, but it's hard to fit much in between breakfast, second breakfast, chat, pre lunch nibbles, lunch, chat, high tea, chat, more chat, post sundown snacklet, chat, then home for dinner!
  11. That was just the down payment John. You still owe me £48,000 and two packets of pickled onion monster munch.
  12. Back to the drawing board Ben:laugh1:
  13. All the 'ready to go' firewood is in cages again. I will have quite a few tons of nice Ash cord if you still have the Tajfun and want to process on site. It's been down since November and Chris Howard is forwarding it for me soon.
  14. Nice one! I'll be interested to hear how you get on. If you get the chance it might be worth trying a double stack like the ones in the photo. Obviously the two cages need to be well fastened to each other. A single domed cage holds 0.8 cube, a double with flat top holds 1.25 cube. You'd need a crane or similar as I doubt a tractor loader would lift high enough.
  15. As with all firewood systems there is an Achilles heel, and tippability is the issue with these. I haven't got the means to tip them, but I would imagine it could be done. The cages would go out of shape but shouldn't break. As you say, it would just be a case of re-shaping them. I do this all the time as I use the cages for a variety of tasks including accumulating log rings in the coppice compartments and providing temporary protection for the stools from deer. Another option for unloading the cages might be to lift the pallet onto the trailer or pick up, and using a crane or loader to lift the cage off the pallet, (the fencing is not secured to the wood). The only down side to this would be the pallet remaining under your logs, but it could be retrieved after delivery. I have not tried this technique!
  16. Hi Joe, Unfortunately I'm quite a way from you. Not far South of Hadleigh.
  17. Thanks eggs and Pinkfoot. I will have to give priority to anyone who can commit to something a bit less casual, but I will certainly keep you guys in mind.
  18. Not sure what I can tell you really. I just chuck them in! I do buy the higher grade stock fencing and place it on the pallet rather than around the base. Other than that I am at a loss as how to account for my brilliance.
