  1. The geographically inept drive me mad. Grid references, lat/long, what3words, phone screenshots of the map app (that they all come with) with a pointer dropped where to park your car. Mobile phones can navigate you to anywhere on the planet within metres. Some apps will give you an arrow to follow. All of that is in everybody's pocket all the time and they still telephone to say they're outside the Co-Op and is it left or right? I could have delivered a pizza to Osama Bin Laden's cave when I was twelve thanks to no more than the haphazard instruction of my scout leaders. Adults have no excuse.
  2. Adders aren't breeding enough. Too many puffs.
  3. Not even the biggest battery saws will piss through 8 inches.
  4. Marks Hall in Essex has a really interesting eucalyptus arboretum if you’re ever in the area.
  5. Wranglerstar just did a video comparing a Dewalt battery saw to a Stihl 260. Not the fairest test but I think it helps decision making. I've just bought a battery saw and I'm going to buy more. They're excellent. No duty and 5% VAT on electricity. 58p/litre duty and 20% VAT on petrol. A moral imperative!
  6. A gentle way of making the point I was going to make when people started suggesting the government could fix the problems. Governments created these problems and have consistently made them worse. Why would you trust them to fix them?
  7. I've got four two-stroke saws, all running well on MotoMix. Two were bought new and have only ever seen MotoMix. Two were bought second hand, previous owners running them on petrol mix. I did nothing to convert them and they're fine.
  8. "I've broken down. Can I have a lift tomorrow morning?" "Bugger. What were the symptoms? Any idea what it is?" <meanwhile racking my brains for what tools I might need> "Well I say broke down." "..."
  9. He'll change his mind when he realises you can't see as far as the dashboard.

Isn't she just. Sadly in less fine fettle these days. Back operation last year after some discs disintegrated (check your pet insurance small print...). Can still walk three miles OK, probably four at a push. Uses the back two as one. Useless on a polished floor.
  11. He's got one ready to fit by the looks of it.
  12. Fill the van up.

Mum's Alsatian when she was probably two or three. I cut myself out of the shot because I'm not as handsome as you.

    Stihl MS391

I have a Stihl 039 with a 25" bar running full complement chain. It's just powerful enough but I still wish I'd bought a skip chain. I wouldn't consider running full comp on a 36" bar with it but I would consider doing so with skip. I'd try to get away with a shorter bar before that though. I wouldn't buy inferior cutting equipment whatever. My 25" bar and chains are Stihl. I bought quality (and new) knowing I can put them on a bigger saw when one comes along.

I think I’ll stick with what I know.
  16. Money spent on QC possibly? Or perhaps some overengineering that you don’t give enough credit to? I’d not heard the hydraulic superiority claim but it’s certainly relevant. Infeed strength, crushing unions etc is hugely important.

The second one looks a big lad! Would I be right in saying Malinois need to be worked more to keep them sane? I’ve found Alsatians pretty easy to please.

Mum’s mum had three Alsatians, mum’s got one now and I’ve known several others so if I had to pick a breed for life, it would have to be an Alsatian. That said, I’m curious about other similar breeds, Belgian Shepherds, Malinois and maybe Rhodesian Ridgebacks. I was even open to Rottweilers for a while but I like the wolfy ones more.
  19. In what regard do you think Schliesing don’t measure up to their reputation? I’ve never x-rayed the welds etc but they’re the chipper I’d least like to hit my shin on. They just feel solid.

Got it. My mum’s Alsatian had ears like that but they sorted themselves out a fair bit before thirteen months. Maybe they’ll sort themselves out still. Nice looking dog anyway.

I didn’t quite follow that David. Have you taken both of them on?
  22. I’m not blown away by how well Schlieisings chip but that’s not everything. As a thing to own and maintain and send out with blokes who don’t respect your property like you do, I think they’re better than most. Two identical teams would have a down day from breaking a Foerst or Greenmech before they broke a Schliesing. Any reader of this thread also can’t ignore that you don’t sell them and you do sell their competition.
  23. Who is the landowner?
  24. That's true for anything though. If you have a Foerst, bearings etc wear out AND the hopper falls apart. If you have a Schliesing, bearings wear out and that's all. Schliesings are built for long term ownership. Bearings etc are consumable.
  25. Estate agents are morons who can't use tape measures.
