  1. No sorry . I meant only able to start them with the chain brake off. . I think ive read its a clutch needle bearing problem .. just wondered if that is stihl(!) a problem on the new ie 2017/2018 saws.
  2. Do the new 261's have issues with chain brake?
  3. Cant make the arb show but am defo up for the apf. Is it considered the better of the 2?
  4. You read correctly .. nor in trees within 10m.
  5. see above pic of end of job.
  6. Ok .. no mr shouty bird spotter today - so i guess me having all the paperwork - the police saw sense .. anyway job completed and this is what we found (apart from a long dead mummified woodpecker in its nest ... popped the phone into the hole just be be on the safeside this morning) ..... on the scale of potential dangerous .. how does this fair ? 14ft stem left standing and these were the 2 truck bases above the cavity. and i rigged of both of those . oh for xray specs.
  7. A 6ft cavity about 4ft off the ground in a 60ft tree. I dont want to leave it til august because i have started work on it and would assume that it is now my responsibility which for the sake of a couple of birds possibly in neighbouring trees i am not prepared to leave.
  8. Defined by a qualified tree assessor in a written report. Countersigned by the tree officer.
  9. Does a ' potentially dangerous' tree trump 'proximity to nesting birds'? No nests in trees to be worked on ... but possibly nests within 10m (bird species unknown). I.e. do i go back and finish off the trees tomorrow and ignore police calling bird lover?

    201t

New spark plug? Clean air filter? I replaced my 'paper' one with a plastic mesh one.
  11. I have the twin line. Its good that you can install and retrieve from the ground and you have a (srt) rescue line ready to go ... but there's an awful lot of rope involved and i can get a bit messy. I also brought the shorter rope (can't recall the name) to turn it back into a rope guide for smaller trees but that adds another 65quid.
  12. OT but ...What gets me is there is a composting place in west malling that the council use for their green waste recycling that's threatened with closure cos they cant get enuf to make it viable. I and local tree surgeons could give them more than they could cope with ... but not allowed to take it there ..... ??????
  13. Gotta be option 2 ... less "aaargghh me back"
  14. Thanks all. Had a vta done recently but this wasn't picked up on (presumably cos it was covered in ivy).
  15. Yeah.. could be [emoji15]
  16. Anything to worry about?. I think its a sweet chestnut (?). Holes are 8mm-10mm diameter. Pic shows a grubs skin but maybe unrelated to the holes.... ? Thanks
  17. We are telling people to burn dry wood instead of wet wood ... er ... "no shit sherlock"
  18. This ... [emoji38]
  19. Got there eventually.. made a table up outa old scaffold..
  20. I just brought an reconditioned exrental 420.. 1 yr old. 1000 hrs for 9k +v.
  21. Im buying one initially for yard work ... lifting bags of logs onto the lorry which i used to handball. Moving dumpy bags of sweepings over to the bonfire and loading chip when i get orders for some. Whether it goes out on site will depend on the jobs.. I'm only small scale but sometimes those large gardens do call out for machinery.. plus i can hire it out to friends. Turned 50 last week and my back will go at the slightest opportunity. Yes they're expensive but mine will be a refurbished year old ex-rental so its not too bad. Looking forward to getting it ... loads of jobs ive been saving up.
  22. Its a bit more money ... but i would totally recommend 'thor mignon'. 11 tonne Well thought out, can do arbwaste or billets. Petrol and 240 (16amp).
  23. Just used mine today for the first time ... well built (ie heavy) ... but wouldn't be without it. .
  24. Is there an attachment that will split timber rings where they lay - ie something that will crunch thro it whilst picking it up - not a 'normal' splitter. I have a large pile of rings to process and i'm hoping there's a less painful way of me picking them up onto the log splitter to split them - cos some of them are rather large.
