  1. Hi all, I'm doing a bit of tidying up on the landy. Wanted to put a set of plastic mudguards on the tipper body. problem is I'm struggling to find the size I need. I'm running 235/85 16 . I tried bison parts thinking they would be certain to have some but parently not. So .... Does anybody have any suggestions where I may find some, or has anybody come across similar and found a certain size of 17 inch mudguards is suitable for landrover wheels? thanks - Andy
  2. If anybody's interested I've got a 075 I'm looking to get rid of. Based in North Yorkshire if it's any good for anyone.
  3. Ive got a pramac 6000s, think it's a kubota or hatz diesel in it. It's a grand little genny that runs the compressor and 9 inch grinder with ease. It's not completely silent but it's bearable when your 10 foot away. Isn't there a member on here called genset Steve, he might be able to help on any info you need.
  4. He's already a very industrious young lad, helping his dad with fixing cars, vale ting them and now starting a log packing empire. me and his dad talked about him helping me building (our main work) but the insurance couldn't be worked out for someone his age.
  5. I don't think I could make it pay if I wasn't buying timber standing and felling myself. The guys that are having to buy in at £65+ a ton must be feeling the pinch, and I can't see it getting better anytime soon even with ash dieback.
  6. I completely agree with what has been said about encouraging him. ive had a word with his dad tonight and we've decided to go with 25p a net to begin with and alter if needed. I did a few earlier today and think I was about a minute or just over, but that was doing a few and I realise that that rate won't be achievable over a longer period. The lad has only recently been adopted by his new parents (approx 12 month ago) after what has been according to my friend a helish childhood including violence and mental abuse going back many years. Conciquencially he's had very little education and is several years behind, so his parents are really encouraging anything that can help him in the future and with what will be a vocational education. He helped us last week do the injection pump, lift pump and timing on my defender and after explaining how each bit worked was full of questions about how they all worked together etc. really encouraging to see, and he seemed to thoroughly enjoy being covered in oil!
  7. 25 p a net seems fair. I actually wouldn't mind overpaying him a little as he's a really nice lad who's keen to work with his hands and always helping his dad when he can ( he valets all the cars that his dad works on) im gonna fill a bulk bag with logs today and see how long to net them using the tray. The thought of doing 2 thousand almost brings me to tears, how people do wagon load upon wagon load is beyond me?
  8. Think your right but that means I have to spend an hour netting logs. My god how I hate those finger nail snatching little bastards. guess there's no other way! has anybody experimented with the us way of making a wheel of logs and wrapping with shrink wrap?
  9. We don't do many log nets, maybe a thousand a year but a new customer has requested another thousand. Now both me and the guy who works for me hate netting with a passion, but my mechanics son has shown an interest in it. he's only 14 and I'd have to drop the logs and nets and tray at his house so he can work supervised by parents and in a safe environment, and it would be as and when his school- homework allows. the issue is I don't know how much to pay, normally pay about 7.50 an hour for netting but obviously the young lad might only get 20 mins at a time. ive no issue paying somebody younger the same rate as somebody older as long as the job is done correctly, I'm just wondering if anybody has done the calcs and worked out a unit price for filling an individual net so I can say to the lad it's X amount per net. Hoping this isn't coming across as a slave labour thread, but if it is does anybody have any cheap branding irons!
  10. Oh the joys of landy ownership! 2 weeks ago immobiliser kicked in and wouldn't turn off, mechanic called out to re sync key fob with truck. Then last week injection pump shits itself promoting a full refurb with new timing belt and idlers while we're in there and a new lift pump to boot. Today, rear lights stop working with mot due on Monday. its almost enough to turn you to Japanese . Ok maybe not! best go get tipping body of to access loom.
  11. Ive got a Balfor 40t horizontal and with the little zetor (75hp) it hasn't got enough poke to kick into low gear and stalls the tractor on really knotty stuff. put the 8210 on it and it runs grand on just above tick over .
  12. No experience of chain winches but I would think it would be a hard day pulling 60 mtr of chain out through brash every 10 mins.
  13. Nice video, shows how efficient a smaller machine can be in the correct environment
  14. I think your probably correct on weight and hyd issues with an 8 ton. just can't bear the thought of winching thick end of a thousand stems off their stumps! Been looking on mascus at 13s
  15. That is a good point, but I'd rather be in a cab with proper guarding on than in a pair of boots with a husky lid on. i'll be honest driving a harvester would be a new experience for me so I know nothing. wondering if an 8 ton would be able to reach up enough to just take upper part of the tree where it was under 250/300 diameter. will have a dredge of utube.
  16. Would a stroke head be lighter than a shear or is it a case of 13 ton + for most heads of that capacity? at least 13s are easier to get hold of and I would guess would cope better with a flail aswell.
  17. I noticed while shooting this year that the estate I do woodland work for is, as many are, going to have a lot of semi mature ash to remove in the coming years. Got to thinking about best way for felling them without damage to neighbouring trees. The sheer number makes my back hurt just thinking about winching and turning them out of the canopy, so... what kind of capacity can a 8 ton machine with a shear head handle? Or maybe a stroke processing head. Can they handle a semi mature ash with a base of about 300 - 450 mm. would be good to hear from anybody running a set up like this or anybody that works for a manufacturer or dealer. thanks - andy
  18. If you have your own power source is tractor or hydraulic pack why not just buy a cheap hydraulic splitter and a saw horse? 15 cube would be fairly leisurely over a few weekends.
  19. I run a fransguard 6.5, crackin basic winches . I don't have the powered out feed or anything. if we are using it for repeated pulls up a steep bank we fasten about 50 Mtrs of blue poly rope to the end hook so when you've un chokered you fasten the chokers in the sliders and fasten them onto the end hook, then the guy at the bottom of the bank can use the poly rope to pull the wire towards him. probably not explained that very well as I'm slowly finding my way to the bottom of a bottle of sloe gin, but it does work.
  20. Unless you live in a house with concrete beam floors with a metal composite roof on steel purlins you've already got woodworm in your house!
  21. That's fantastic, thanks, as soon as I can figure out how to pm you I'll send my email address across . Thanks - Andy
  22. Absolutely perfect, thanks.
  23. Can any of you helpful people point me in the right direction to find an exploded diagram of the old Igland 4000/2 winch. or if anybody has a manual they would like to sell? just on with refurbing 1 and just want to check I'm putting it back together correctly. thanks- andy
  24. Yeah I think you've confirmed what I was thinking. Will try a few of the bigger estates that have there own grab trailers and mini diggers. Thinking they may have oversize timber from roadside trees they can't do a lot with. Thanks for your reply.- Andy
  25. Soo.... I've had a big balfor 40 ton horizontal splitter for a few years now and it probably only works for about 2 weeks a year. recently I've been wondering if there would be any demand for renting it out (probably with an operator). its a monster of a machine and if fed by a timber crane or 360 soon knocks big timber into billets or smaller lumps for bio chipper. could offer it with forwarding trailer to feed it and billet bundler for produce. Question is? Is it a service that any firewood merchants or estates actually need or have screw splitters on 360s surpassed what a hydraulic splitter can achieve? thanks for your opinions. - Andy
