  1. True but don't snow tyres last about 10mins when on the tarmac?
  2. Your dead right Skyhuck. I consider that every winter but always go out anyway as it keeps the cheques coming in a bit. When there is snow I choose jobs close to home, off main roads and with a small drag. Previously travel wasn't a problem as I had a Unimog, just had to remember to avoid downhill journeys. Now with a Transit van the problem isn't stopping, it's getting the useless thing to move in the first place! Snow socks are £35 a pair.
  3. I get an alert asking if I want to upgrade to the unlimited version. If I choose to, I then get an alert saying I must re-purchase. I then get an alert sayin I must first purchase the app. When I do it, I get taken back to square one! RUBBISH!!
  4. Silky, how do you post so many photos with Tapatalk? I got a notice saying that I had reached my limit of 30 (if I remember right) and now i can't use Tapatalk to upload photos.
  5. I don't want chains really because I live in Surrey so they'll only get used twice a year. Chains are more expensive and fiddlier to fit. I literally only need them to get in and out of client's drives and cul-de-sacs.
  6. Does anyone use snow socks on a 3.5T tipper truck? I have a Transit and wondered if it would work. I should have thought about this last week of course.
  7. I'm sorry, I don't understand that photo of the weird green slug. When Mrs OMT books a camping trip it looks like this
  8. Check out the Mr & Mrs Smith website. Me & Mrs OMTC usually stay in them when we have a weekend off together for some adult fun.
  9. Last time I used a prusik, I didn't feel sentimental and nostalgic. I felt exhausted, awkward, slow, embarrassed and stupid.
  10. Makes me think that mounting the GoPro on the dashboard (Russian style) might be a good idea in these conditions.
  11. WorcsWuss. Don't waste your money on that best harness. I use a Lyon sling twisted to make a fig8 across my back and clip it together on my chest with a Stein tool biner. It also means that I have another redirect strop should I suddenly need one, obviously with a proper biner though.
  12. OMG that's amazing. Ive just looked at the vids on the site, awesome. I'll buy some now and report back.........
  13. Not had that problem. Do you have it all adjusted so that it's sitting too far back on your head, maybe. Or maybe your neck is too flexible.
  14. Great video. I'd love to know what the guy in the MEWP thought he would achieve with a pole pruner:lol:
  15. Well in the last 2 days I've joined a GoPro forum and Mac4Mac. Although I've only joined Mac4Mac to find out how to delete saucy photos from Photo Stream. So far they haven't helped!
  16. Nice one WorcsWuss. Just keep an eye on the pulley cheeks cutting into the hitch cord on the eye2eye.
  17. This has to be the stuff. What do you think? CT1 C Tec Sealant and Construction Adhesive
  18. My findings so far..... It was really comfy straight away but since messing with the adjustment a bit more last week it is now sitting on my head very nicely. The chin strap is easier to adjust than a Petzl because the adjusters are up inside the helmet at the attachment points and you can fiddle with all four ends. Also, it can't slacken off at the buckle like the usual designs can. The ear muffs are a nice surprise. They are pressure adjustable against your head but I have not fiddled with this (yet) because despite the muffs feeling useless when they first seal round the ears, they actually block sound extremely well. The ventilation! The biggest area of sensible discussion! I noticed from the start that there is no condensation building up inside the helmet. Last week I switched to and from the Petzl and Protos twice a day on three seperate days and every time I took the Petzl off the inside was wet with condensation. None at all was evident on the Protos. To conclude, the comfort elements are just my opinion however, the safety and ventilation are irrefutable. I honestly don't know if I find the Protos comfier than the Petzl but if it's safer and cooler, in my opinion it is a much better helmet. (Sorry Petzl)
  19. God I wish I had a Jimny right now. I could sling tools in the back, tow the chipper to the job and they're a whole lot cheaper than a Hi-Lux etc!
  20. As I mentioned earlier, I can't put my Hero2 on top of my Protos helmet:thumbdown: Does anyone know where I can purchase more of that 3M sticky stuff so that I can create the required shape. No need to talk about warranties.
  21. They're not in sale yet but I'm sure Ropetek will announce it, I think I read Feb or March. I think the slight 'bulk' on the side if the harness is negated by the convenience of not trailing a long lanyard or daisy chains rope around. If you have a Caritool on booth sides already, the Sidewinder won't add much at all.
  22. I bought Pulsarail waterproofs from Granite Workwear. Quality seems good and the price is very good. They come in hi-vis orange or yellow.
  23. Thanks guys. Head down and keep plugging on. Jnoon, sorry I hadn't read the whole thread and didn't realise the Iveco would be above budget. All the advice given so far is good IMO, especially about getting a 4WD not 2WD.
  24. Someone mentioned a speedline over the gardens but have you also considered a skyline. If you made a mistake on the previous quote then you should be fine this time around. With that in mind I imagine you really want to maximise your profit so I would rig and man haul it. At least you know what you're doing with this system because if you don't have much crane experience you could really loose out on a complicated job. Also, on big jobs like this I always try to price really high and don't worry if I loose the job. Being 10% wrong on price can run to a loss of several hundreds or a couple of grand. Also, Rigging down big stems is massively hard work and painful, you wanna earn really good dosh for that.
  25. I would love to buy it Stephen and on reflection, I'd just partition the crew cab off. Sadly though, not only am I seriously spent up, a client has just knocked me for £5.5k! Not a good way to start the new year.
