1. Iv just bought a husqvarna 365 with a 24" bar for our big stuff, was £580inc vat online and is a great saw
2. If its straight softwood in 3m lengths of good size i can get around 4\5 cubic metres an hour done with my WP36 and a manual log deck
3. My advice would be to do a massive amount of research and build one yourself! Most renewable companies I've had the displeasure of dealing with have been useless. The company who fitted our system shouldn't be in business! Ours is a 95kw boiler plumbed into a 6000l accumilater tank with a 100kw heat exchanger into a 40ft insulated kiln. Get it done quick before the RHI runs out!!!
4. We are looking for some sort of tumbler get the rubbish out after kiln drying. A lot of the bark comes off when kiln drying so we are trying to separate that mainly
5. Hi Woody, how did you make one? Do you have any pics ect? We have been thinking of making one for a while now
6. How much to sunny South Wales nick Edit"""" just saw this was from 3 years ago!!
7. Hi, We have some really big rings that wont go through our processor to split so was just wondering if anyone offered or knows of anyone that offers a splitter hire for a day in South Wales? Im in pontypool Cheers Ash
8. Hi Ian! We have now insulated the roof (inside) and have ordered some insulation for the sides (100mm kingspan) so it should hopefully be alot better. We are getting between 60-70 at the top but only 40 at the bottom. We are hoping the insulation on the sides will bring the heat down as the sides are boiling at the moment! Right ok, how big do you think the vents need to be? We have tried playing around with the size but its difficult deciding what is best!
9. Just had a look, looks good! Is that container insulated? Do you know what sort of temperatures you get in there? How does that fan system work? Sorry for all the questions!
10. Unless your selling 800/1000 cubic metres a year i dont think a kiln would be the best way.
11. What size is the boiler? Are you using a container or a building to put the wood in to dry?
12. We have a 100kw boiler with a 6000l accumulator and 100kw fan in the end of a 40' container. First thing i would say is get the container insulated. A lot of companies fitting RHI boilers dont understand kilns so are fitting them without insulation to get the maximum RHI. Virtually pointless if you want to dry wood. We have our fan turned all the way down and its producing 25/35kw's an hour on the metre at the moment. It drys beech/ash hardwood under 30% in the middle in 2 weeks and 3 weeks under 20%. Ours isnt fully insulated yet so we are hoping for better results when its all on. Larch softwood is drying to under 10% in around 3-4 days. We have learnt the hard way after dealing with a completely useless renewable energy company but its finally coming together! I will take some more pics later
13. We have been pushing mixed loads for a few years now and its going down well. The key is to have dry softwood. I have done a lot of experimenting and if softwood is 25/30% moisture it just doesnt burn properly. 15% is perfect and we get ours down to 0% in the kiln in 3 days. Its cheaper, easier to process and quicker to dry. A no brainer for us to push it
14. I have had one for 2 years now. Put over 1000 cubic metres through it and its brilliant. It handles twisty/knotty wood very well. Loads of room for +16" stuff to be put through it. On smaller stuff i dont think you can get a processor quicker! Its rapid. First class backup by alpine tractors as well. I would recommend them to anyone
15. A few loads turned up this week. There is a stack of softwood behind those 3 and a big load of pop at the back of the yard too.
16. Yea we have a 95kw boiler, 6000l accumulator tank, 100kw hear exchanger fan and insulated 40ft container. Cost £25k through a company who where useless. If i was to do it again i would just buy all the parts and get a plumber to fit it. Pricing it up you would be looking about £15-18k. With a 95kw boiler we are looking at about £13-15k a year back on RHI. At the moment we are running it completely off processor waste/shavings but im not sure how long thats going to last with the changes coming in. We have got softwood drying down to 5-10% in 4 days and hardwood down to 20-25% in 10 days and we can fit 36 ibc containers in at one time. The company tried to sell the system as 2x 95kw boilers and 2x 100kw fans but it just doesn't need it. They originally fitted it with a non insulated container which was pointless, heating the atmosphere! You get double the RHI but the fuel consumption went through the roof. It seems to run a lot better on 1 boiler. In pretty certain you could put a 50Kw fan and exchanger in with 2 x 40ft containers with the same boiler and accumulator and it would work fine. You would double the kiln output. Our fan is turned down and only running at about 25-30%.
17. If you are doing 800t a year surely it would benefit you getting a kiln? you wouldn't need half the storage space.
18. Well i have been looking for around a year now and searched everywhere possible and you can very very rarely get them for less than £40 delivered. They are in Wrexham, a 4 hour drive from me. Like firewood the price seems to differ from place to place, on ebay you can get them for 20-30 but they are hundreds of miles away.
19. Hi, is anyone interested in any IBC containers to be collected in Pontypool South Wales? I have to buy 50 from a contact I have but I only need 25/30 so 20/25 are available. They are £40 each and dont come with inners so you dont have to worry about getting rid of them. Cheers Ash 07772280850
20.
Hi Jim, just had an email saying you tried to message me but my inbox was full. It has room now so send it again if you can. Cheers Ash

21. Yes i dont mind answering too!
22. If your looking into importing firewood speak to Dan at Premium wood - http://www.premiumwood.co.uk We have done a few loads last year to bulk up our stock and they are superb. A week lead time, no money up front, you pay when it arrives and you have inspected it. The timber is extremely good quality and all down to 10-15% outside and 20% inside. People need to get with the times, i have had some utterly crap cordwood come through the last few years and the price is getting higher and higher. With the forestry commission cutting down most of the softwood in South Wales in the next 5 years the power stations are going to be buying hardwood instead. I was paying £15/20 ton for softwood 3 years ago and the latest price is £42+vat delivered! It wouldn't surprise me that the hardwood prices go up towards £100 a ton in the next 5-7 years. For now I'm going to be kiln drying as much as i can and getting a bit of RHI back, then importing if stocks are looking low.
23. We usually get 45-50 cubic metres out of a 25 ton load of softwood
24. Hi Ed, thanks but we bought our own a few years ago and rent that out now! Thanks for the message
25. Email sent too
