  1. I was mulling over the likelyhood that because August is probably the busiest month on the canals, a CART manager decided to keep the reservoir water levels high, and was caught out by the weather forecast actually being correct, which would be entirely understandable. BUT! the self-same manager would have been eviscerated on public media if their had been insufficient water later in August for to allow boaters to use the locks on their canal boat holidays. The lack of proper inspection(and perhaps invasive or some penetrative inspection was needed simply because of the nature of the construction of this dam and its age) and maintenance of the dam is another issue. Because the various dam failure modes are well understood, especially after the very publicised slipway failure of that dam in California very recently.
  2. I believe the brother advised me that of the MF3080/85 MF3090/95 models the "5's" were much better than the earlier "0's", I cant remember why though. I would have thought the revered International 956's/1056's were now desirable and scarce, ergo pricey? cheers mth
  3. Posch are pretty posh actually! Also well engineered and built in Austria and therefore priced accordingly. cheers mth
  4. I am with Eggs on thissun, re the systematic lack of maintenance, lying about the lack of maint and its effects, then making poor decisions in a impending crisis, and then lying about that too. Based on local observations. Good luck with the public enquiry.
  5. Dare I suggest, there speaks the voice of experience?
  6. Better than trying to order Kioti parts from their official NI dealership, Cyril Johnston, ESPECIALLY if one gets "she can only be on a Friday afternoon promise" Jenny! DOH!
  7. For the third day in a row here, HOT HOT HOT
  8. That wee honey gets me more excited than a shiney new car.
  9. 230V * 11A = 2530W Whatever happened to the 3 bar 3kW electric fire btw? Or am I misremembering from when it was 240V = 12.5A for 3kW.
  10. So iffen this reservoir was created to supply the canal, it got nowt to do with farming practices this last couple o hundred o years or so then Kevin. cough cough.
  11. The angel/angle had fallen!
  12. Who?
  13. What is the breeding in this fine looking animal? I really like the brindle coat, never mind the intelligent looking eyes.
  14. An there was me looking at the first image and thinking to myself, that does not look too wet. P.S. Nice wide tracks on the digger.
  15. Bollcocks! Latin may well have been the written language, but remember French was up there too for written stuff(& early British passports too?), and for fucks sake Anglo Saxon was the spoken one. P.S. I always liked the irony of English being the lingua franca for business Worldwide.
  16. Gimlet, that was one aspect of working for the Council that I loathed, fucking acres and acres and acres of meadowland along a river that absolutely had to be kept cut, when understaffed as we were, we not cope with grass elsewhere that really needed cutting. The residents that overlooked it made statements like "that untidy", "that's full of rats", "my wee Jonny got stung by a nettle", "those brambles will take a childs eye out" etc etc etc, and the useless Amenities Officer ALWAYS caved in, despite any previous promises to me. Until the movement to "Don't mow, let it grow took hold", but did any blaggart say that Marcus had been saying that all along, Oh No, this was a "new idea" brought in by the "Eco Diversity Officer"(or somesuch overpaid job title) who was appointed to oversee such important stuff. Who was actually a sound enough lassie, but talk about money for old rope. Am I glad to be retired!
  17. As in our front "Avenue" is fair hooching with insects and birdlife, see image for the reason why. I had intended keeping the verges cut, but on reflection . . .
  18. I hope this is my first survivor of Ash dieback, the leader shoot and the 2 side shoots died last year, and I thought it was a goner, it was certainly slow to come in the Spring/early Summer, but just today I observed that it appears to have bounced back, with several vigorous 4 foot long new seasons growth. I say that simply because none of the other affected trees have shown any sign of recovery like this one has.
  19. Mea culpa.
  20. I can not ignore this any longer. The title, Who knows there Latin? Surely it should be their Latin? m
  21. Meh!, I for one share some/most of his views of some/most of the Liverpudlians and their whiney victimhooditis, never mind the appalling way they speak. And enough already of the apologising to everybody for everything.
  22. Well since every time she looks in the mirror, she sees a bullshitter, she sure should be well ahead in recognising another one!
  23. No!, no! Its like when one scrapes through on the last of the Amber, thinking one was really pushing ones luck there, and realizes another 3 to 5 cars are following behind. OBVIOUSLEY having run a blatent RED! Scoundrels that they are. Right, back to my Halo polishing, before I attempt to rewire my bodged(& by me years ago) consumer unit. EDIT Well Goodness Gracious Me! I succeeded in correctly rewiring the RCCD thingamabob within our consumer unit, which I had disconnected and bypassed to get the sockets to work one night when they kept tripping and I found water dripping from the underside of the consumer unit, the water was dripping because the flashing to the new flat roof directly above was bolloxed. Professional builders huh! Then I kinda forgot about my work-a-round, and when I did remember, years later, I had forgotton how or what I had disconnected . Doh! Some Guinness shall be my reward.
  24. So youse lot are why our never been claimed on in 40 years household insurance premiums are so unreasonably high! Just saying like!
