  1. hey drew, I'm guessing that you used class 1 DB splice for the AP to Pinto RIG? Looks good bro
  2. Nice work mate looking good, yes blaze is a nice/easy double braid rope to splice
  3. cheers Taylor, keep the vid's coming!!
  4. Nice work guys! Hey Steve, what do you use inside the eye of your pulley savers to keep them open? Spliced up a new lanyard, heres some pics
  5. Nice vid, Taylor, pulley saver is a great bit of kit! Got a question.. what is inside the eye to keep it ridged?
  6. Yes creates core in large eye, usually there is no core in the eye if your using samson's 16braid splicing instructions so u can just put the plastic wire in side before you bury, I'd say as long as the wire isn't any thicker than 10mm you should be sweet
  7. Yeah no worries bro, I know what you mean about the shackle riding up into the pulley, I think the smaller pinto will be good for RG's when it comes to NZ, At the mo Im still using my cocoon on my RG, I use the pinto as a retrievable anchor for lite rigging which works well. Any how think that your/MOG's idea will work regarding the shackle:001_cool:
  8. I agree with Drew, I think that the ringloop and multi sling are great pieces of kit and come in handy in a lot of different scenario's I spliced myself some and use them when ever I can. Also Taylors vid's are great! Keep em coming!
  9. Ben- Keep practicing, the more you splice the better you will be come! Yea they work great! Liam- Im not sure what you mean by 'how do you form the large eye?' But you splice the eye and before you bury the cover back into the rope, you insert a length of wire rope covered with plastic into the rope and milk it up to where the eye will form, make sure that the length of wire is the same length as the marks that form the eye. Hope this helps
  10. Hey Liam, I made the rope guide in the picture you used from the thread my splicing attempts and just thought I'd make some in put. I think making your own rope guide is the way to go. I think that the soft eye is better than the ring/ART ring as the soft eye is far less likely to get stuck in a crotch and also chokes tighter around stems. As far as inserting the wire goes, for me, this is not a timely effort at all... Cut the appropriate length of wire insert into eye before attempting bury and then carry on as per normal, when you do the bury, just bend the wire as you pull the cover through. Also I found using wire wasn't the best as it tends to poke through the rope and also has a memory so once loaded it doesn't open back up. I use wire rope that has a plastic cover over it so will protect the rope on the inside and doesn't poke through. Also, wire rope has much less of a memory than wire, so makes the spliced eye open back nicely for retrieval Hope this helps you out
  11. Hey bro, RG is just over 1.5m long and the eye is approx 15cm in diameter, post some pics when you've made it !!
  12. Cheers Drew, yea it was a mission to milk it home! I find using another prusic as an 'adjuster' helps but yeah still hard to milk in but its worth it, although the one in the pic was for a mate, I still got mine tied in a prus loop Don't know weather I want to have if 'fixed' or not... Did come up nice though, even with that sirius cord been so 'stiff', I find AP much easier to splice than the sirius.. you use Class 1 Double Braid splice on AP? Ha Im still using my cocoon on my rope guide I use my pinto for a floating anchor on my SRT line for getting hangers etc Oh yeah and let me know when your gunna be down wellington ways and we could me up or something..?
  13. Yeap I removed core and then removed 9 strands for the initial taper and then tapered again for the crossover bury so that when the new core/s pull against each other it becomes smooth with no bumps..if that makes sense? kinda hard to explain.. hope it makes sense
  14. These are some splices I did over the weekend
  15. I use pinto for 'floating' anchor on single line and also RG sometimes and have tried it for a few different climbing setups some photo's on another thread called "pinto"
  16. Back to the main point of this thread..... This is one of my Rope Guides I use everyday and it works a treat on stems
  17. what about a Rope guide or pulley saver? I use my RG/PS to choke round stems often.. works well:thumbup1:

    Pinto

Tried the pinto out with that config the other day.. seem to work ok but I felt that it did 'squeeze' the sides of the pinto together slightly, so I went back to the other configuration. Also wasn't as smooth for retrieving when using the pinto as a RG. Also tried a couple different climbing systems using the pulley.. 1st pic is standard setup 2nd pic is a compact setup 3rd is side view of compact Anyone got any others..? I still prefer the HitchClimber pulley in my main system
  19. I use wire fids.. I have a very long home made wire fid for 16strand so I can complete the crossover in one pass and short fids for Double Braid. All fid's are made from piano wire which you can get from any piano tuner. As ben said you pick up little tricks to make splicing a bit easier but IMO the more you practice the better you get Just keep practicing you'l get there! when pulling through the crossover point with 16strand try anchoring the core to something so as you pull on the wire fid the core pulls out and creates a little more room for the crossover as the cover bunches up more... hope that makes sense and helps. Also Oldsnake and DrewB would be the people to ask from any tips
  20. Haha sweet as then I bet the cone will come in handy! pics once you've made it plz
  21. Do you find it hard to retrieve, with out the 'cone' on top of the cocoon? I use a part of a funnel on the top of my cocoon covered in tape.. looks pretty rough but works for now (also the hose helps retrieval) until I get a proper cone piece from Drew
