  1. Nah get out the trusty fig 8 and descend on that
  2. I would've come up from Welly if you needed a contract climber.... cash on the weekends
  3. Converted my SRT set up into the DRWT today and had a play around, Thought it was good I can see it been useful in some scenarios, but on large assents I still prefer SRT for access and then install rope guide and climbing line, do the required work and descend on SRT line. Nice vids every one
  4. If that is the case ( I don't know as I haven't used one), you could always buy the rings and splice your self one:001_tt2:
  5. also try not to drop on to concrete or any hard surfaces when retrieving from ground as can cause a lot of damage
  6. Just got some e2e splices tested, got a length of spark tested, it broke at 2400kgs, but only broke because of bend ratio ( broke at bottom of the eye ) Armor prus e2e (class 1 splice at one end and class 2 at the other ) class 1 eye splice broke at 1610kgs (class 2 didn't move) Just thought I'd post the results cheers
  7. Protected Copper Beech reduction (15%-20%) before and after
  8. I think this ( using the ring ) would work well if you had an e2e prus as the buries are stiff already, the ring would just keep the hitch all together and help dress it, the buried length of the e2e splices would stay straight even if you didn't have the ring in there.. hope that makes sense
  9. No worries thats what I thought.. what type of rope are you using to climb on using this system?
  10. Yeah they do make some nice ropes, yeah thats what i thought but i did pull the core out of the length that i spliced and made the cross over using the 2 ends of the burys.. if that make sense. Got some destruction test results today, ... splice vs double fig 8.. Highest break 2100kg, 1910kg, 1770kg and lowest 1670kg None of the splices moved or budged at all!! most of the breaks were either near to the cross over or towards the knotted end of rope. The lower breaking points were on the shorter lengths of ropes aswell. Will hopefully be getting the AP e2e and spark e2e tested this weekend, will post results when I have them
  11. This may be obvious, but is this system so you can work off a single line instead of using srt just for access?
  12. No worries Ill post the results when I get them, still waiting for some results from a few splices I sent away a week ago, only getting those tested against bowline and fishermans knots though as they weren't e2e splices. Thanks for the heads up about the 16stand, the spark I spliced, I removed the core and use cover as new core, I thought because I could pull the splice out I may have not made the cross over long enough... cheers
  13. I did what you suggested for my rope guide old snake, it locks well under load but when it has no load on it i manged (quite easily) to pull the eye out... Did i splice it wrong? I have finished it with whiplock and will get in break/destruction tested and see what it breaks at before i climb on it. Thanks for the idea Heres the pics..
  14. Thanx mate the last lock was super hard! thats when i bent the needle , next time I think I will do the whip lock further away from the eye, I found this on the net reguarding whipping twine sizes hope it helps Whipping Twine
  15. Just finished splicing a tight eye into my blaze lanyard... whip lock was the hardest part! bent the needle on the last bit! hope ya like
  16. Hi dave, Check out this vid.. [ame] [/ame] he stitches the cross over to stop it from coming apart when burying, hope this helps
  17. Ahh thats where I went wrong.. I used same length wire as the size of my eye, I also inserted after the bury. Yeap that makes sense about the rope guide.. Ill give it a go! Thanks for the tips Ill post some picks when Ive done it cheers mate! did another AP e2e last night
  18. Thanks I used 5mm wire to keep the eye open, i inserted it once i had finished the splice but it slips out now and again.. any idea's? That's a good idea about using the cover as the core, does that mean that you only taper were the 2 cores meet at the crossover or is there a ''hollow'' space in the middle section of rope? Also do you use class 1 double braid splice for armor prus.. is it safe to climb on if used? p.s bugger about your laptop
  19. Thanks, i will have a look through some of the tree matters and send rick an email
  20. Im in Wellington... I've done a few splices (16braid yale XTC and armor prus e2e), just want to make sure im doing it all properly and learn some new tricks and techniques. I'm waiting for results from cookes, i sent the XTC to get break/destruction tested. Is it ok to use class 1 DB splice on armor prus for e2e splice? I know Donaghys says Class 2 but alot of people say class 1 ok
  21. Hey all, anyone know of any splicing workshops coming up in New Zealand this year?
  22. Hi all thought Id post some pics of my first armor prus splice, comments, criticisms suggestions welcome was quite nice to splice, thinking of using this for cocoon attachment for rope guide
