  1. thanks for the advice guys have a 3t digger so digging and lifting not a problem got about 25m to take out and only about 5 to fill will give it a try at the end of november as suggested and as you say got nothing to lose
  2. The estate here want a bit of beech hedge removed during the winter and I was wondering if some of the individual bits would transplant with any hope of regrowing the hedge was mature when I first seen it about 30 years ago and is about 10ft tall 3ft wide I was looking to replant some of the hedge in a dissused gateway in the same hedge. I know winter would be the best time and was thinking of doing it around end of feb just before it starts to wake up again -is this the best time . also it is growing alongside the drive so getting roots out from one side would be nearly impossible . do you think I have any chance
  3. contact e-mail adress on the ad end @randccivils so maybe it is them
  4. the older type hitches with a safety pin are now banned from all the sites we work on nowadays. any subbies turning up with one dont even get to unload . I know that the new types are failsafe but there was something reasureing about seeing a pin holding the bucket on
  5. £ss hard to find ok from memory when I was at it 30p per 3 meter length 2 or three sometimes 4 per tree so a lot of trees for a ton!! 30 x 3m on average I think
  6. cut your rack first, fell one tree at a time if it hangs up get your shoulder under it and run like hell forwards untill it is down stick your logging tape into the butt end and sned up the tree as far as you can reach cross cutting your 2-9s as you go then work back down the tree turning each length to get the bit underneath stack to the side of the rack starting with the heavy bit so you are moving it smallest distance . then go back and herring bone fell the sides into your rack stacking on the nearest heap this also gives the forwarder plenty hag to drive on if the ground is soft if stacking for a skyline make sure there is a space undereath or the chokerman will call you names you have never heard yet!!!!!
  7. bad over this side of the country as well (fort-william) every tree in our young plantation seems affected -been told most will recover but will be "stunted" by about 5 years anyone know if this is correct
  8. atrical in paper I read at work to-day -think it was the daily record- shows pics of its previous fail -the company spoksman said it was a different part of the boom that failed this time !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. Finally got round to fitting a thumb to my 803 the thumb is from digbits and the ram was one i got from a mate, had a hell of a job getting fittings for it as it is an unusual metric thread and had to get a couple of bushes made up for the ends. it just so happens that when it is extended it is the same length as the solid rod supplied with it, so you can lift the ram out of the way until you get the bucket under the log then just press the pedal. I was surprised how smooth and controllable it was considering it is piped to the breaker circuit only other thing was I had to take off the quick hitch as the bucket was to far away from the thumb and that narrow bucket is the only one I have that does not have welded pins -after a wee bit of practice was able to pick up from a small twig to the tree in the pics
  10. Hi there , I am just over the "border" from you in highland region
  11. nice find takes me back a bit -to the days of when ppe meant tucking your tie into your nice white shirt!!!!
  12. as Billy above I have no formal training in windblow just 35 years experience and always found a tangle of spruce in the middle of a forestry block a very dangerous place to be but a single hardwood can be just as big a challenge -on this estate we try never to cut down a standing tree so all the firewood comes from windblow , I always try to get the rootplate back ASAP as they go back much neater the quicker you get to them I will get some pics of three large spruce which have been over and put back up beside farm road all with about 30 ft stems on them and have grown away again - on a lighter note did a clump of 5 silver birch a couple of months ago - took off the small branches then nibbeled at the trunks untill I picked up the main stem with one hand and shoved it back upright . will fell the rest when I get time
  13. TRACKED VERMEER BC1000 i XL 12" WOODCHIPPER,wood chip dumper woodchip boiler | eBay dont know how to post as a link but thought some of you may like this one
  14. its not being able to drive a tractor -my wife can do that and she's not got a licence-its being able to work what is behind it after all it is only the engine part of sometimes a complex and expensive machine!!
  15. whatever one you get dont be like me got a new seiko last year from wife on our wedding day a bit to good for work so put it in a drawer took it back last weekend to shop cos battery was flat and complined batter not lasted long--she gave it a shake and told me it had no battery!!!!!-wish I had read instructions!!!!!!!
  16. thanks will try that next time
  17. swept mine to-day from the top there seems to be quite a build up of tar on it now wood burning stove been in about 15 years now only burn wood that has been seasoned for at least 2 years it has a liner but dont think anything was put round it at the time anyway does any one know of a "bomb" typy thing that i could put on a rope and rattle up and down from the top as the brush just compresses when you put it down, wold not want it to get stuck tho
  18. got one from work just now going by its own computer its doing 39 mpg thats the average over 10,000 miles not the worst to drive tbh got back seats in and you can really tell the difference when 4 up only problem when it lost power turned out to be a broken -well bent throttle pedal!!!!
  19. this could be a true story as I am married to a good irish woman
  20. Three farmers married wives from different countries. The first man married a woman from Italy . He told her that she was to do the dishes and house cleaning. It took a couple of days, but on the third day, he came home to see a clean house and dishes washed and put away. The second man married a woman from Sweden . He gave his wife orders that she was to do all the cleaning, dishes and the cooking. The first day he didn't see any results, but the next day he saw it was better. By the third day, he saw his house was clean, the dishes were done and there was a huge dinner on the table. The third man married a girl from IRELAND . He ordered her to keep the house cleaned, dishes washed, lawn mowed, laundry washed, and hot meals on the table for every meal. He said the first day he didn't see anything, the second day he didn't see anything but by the third day, some of the swelling had gone down and he could see a little out of his left eye, and his arm was healed enough that he could fix himself a sandwich and load the dishwasher.
  21. got my digger back to-day the lever on 803 if fitted is in front of the radiator just below the hydraulic level sight glass maybe no handle on it just a square you put a shifter on to -mine does have a lever on it-- that is to change from one way to 2 way operation
  22. tbh you are not going to get anything for that price only going to be inheriting someone elses problems -spend the cash on the one you have ,you will know what you have then
  23. or even a couple of blocks of wood when the back wheels of landy off ground no handbrake!! seen it happen loading a mini digger it all ended in tears
  24. had a fxed grip on my last digger a 3 ton cat and would not be without one now biggest problem with the fixed type is with small branches etc on the ground the bucket teeth have to go below ground level before comeng to the talon making for a hole in the ground (does that make sence im not very good at explaining )hence the idea of a hydraulic one. I know what you mean about the american ones and they all seem to be on a ram , whats available in this country all seem to be fixed
  25. SOME! 803s have a lever which shifts it from freeflow return ie for continues use on breaker shift lever for 2 way acting will look at mine to-morrow as to where it is i think it is on the valve block but its not on all 803s I have been thinking along similar lines-been kicking a few bits round the workshop to make a "thumb" for mine worked by a hydraulic ram and like the idea of useing the buttons for the offset to work it as it would have more control than a foot pedal does anyone know if it is possible just to switch the offset pipes with the breaker pipes at the valve block making the offset work with the pedal and the breaker circut with the buttons on the lever-sorry to highjack your thread but was going to ask the quetion when i saw your thread
