  5. been hearing the blackwater dam near empty they are desparate for rain to fill it again
  6. I could see that one in fort William from the house Quite a spectacle just after dark last night this was defiantly not a controlled burn but more likely started by kids only a part time fire brigade here and son in law out till 4 this morning and back out at another to-night controlled burning carried out all around here but never that close to town or villages, kinlochleven just down the road is well known for kids starting fires around the village
  7. hooray finally got new liner fitted yesterday all insulated with vermiculite this time as well so will get it lit again to-night, will be watching outside to see if its black smoke or white! anyone know what the best thing to seal the bedroom wall with to stop the horrible acrid smell comeing through the brick/plaster where the split was

  9. growing out of an ash tree which fell about 8 years ago
  10. great wee machine if the stuff is fairly straight but you need to cut nearly every "Y" . they dont like stuff like roddydendron if its twisted and got even small crowns of branches as above needs to be sharp to pull stuff through
  11. you dont look at the mantl piece when you stoke the fire
  12. we were using a large wet/dry vac with 3 motors held about 30 gallons and were emptying it every 20 mins sometimes less
  13. used a hydraulic one a few years ago chains were about £600 then working refurbing a power station the re-bar was twisted square bar if you hit it on a corner the chain just snapped , even in round re-bar could go through a chain in 2 days
  14. got some great pics of them going up 500 t crane etc but they are on "picasa" anyone know how to upload them on here in my "other" job we do the roads and the concrete bases. 375 cube of concrete in one pour and up to 40t of re-bar
  15. I agree only fitted the ram as I had it lying about. the thumb is same one as mine
  16. would not be without the thumb on my 3 tonner. it came from digbits but I found that if you were lifting a log from the ground the bucket teeth dug under the log and got a lot of earth with it . I fitted the ram which I had lying about as its the same length as the fixed bar supplied when fully extended so can position the bucket then bring the thumb down onto the log. without the ram you drive it by positioning the thumb first then use the bucket with the ram its the other way round. in an ideal world I would use a longer ram mounted further up the dipper so it would fold fully out of the way for digging Also had to take the Quick hitch off as the thumb landed inside the bucket with it fitted the narrow bucket was the only one I have without welded pins although with the new teeth and sidecutters it works a treat

  25. I got a 3 tonnerand fitted it with a thumb from digbt$ I changed the solid bar with a ram which is the same lenth as the solid bar when extended as I found the bucket was going into the ground before contacting with the "thumb" best thing I ever did great for cord and clearing brash and allsorts would not be without it now only thing I would say a 1 1/2 tonner may be a bit small I will take some new photos tomorrow as cant find the ones i have on this new computer
