  1. It's normal. Just flip the choke closed and give it a wipe. I must give the black filters a try, though to see how different the result is.
  2. Hi guys, Just wanted to check if it's just me/mine being faulty, but I really struggle to get my Husky combi-can's fuel side to stop leaking around the base of the spout. I end up fiddling with it for ages to get it to seat properly and not dribble when I'm filling a saw. Is it just me? Do they all do this?
  3. Sorry, been offline for a couple of days. Thank you, sir!
  4. I use the Husqvarna stuff and get a bit of a tarry chain but that's all. The rest of the saws is fine. It looks like the problem is very brand-dependent. What I do hate is sap from sitka spruce on my saws. Awful stuff. The answer to both issues, by the way, is Sticky Stuff Remover, available from Lakeland Ltd. It's a citrus-based cleaner - works wonders. Also great for removing the residue from sticky labels. Every house should have a bottle.
  5. And I note it has Dualco moulded into it, so: Dualco Grease Gun | Evans Cycles
  6. That looks suspiciously like the AmPro one! In which case it's a good 'un.
  7. The REALLY good one to have is the AmPro one, but they're really, really hard to find... Looks like I'll be picking one up in the USA next time I'm over there.
  8. Skyhuck's right. There are plenty of occasional users out there with XP saws: I have a friend whose 346 is still on it's original chain, and he knows I have my eye on it for whenever he finally realises he doesn't need it. A TrioBrake would suit him. I get the issue of it getting in the way when snedding, but not every user sneds. The only time I ever did much snedding was on my CS31... As an extra safety feature for e.g. crosscutting firewood, it has value. FWIW, people made similar comments about seat belts when they first came in. A TrioBrake isn't compulsory so, if it's not for you, don't buy it. Just please don't knock it either. You may just put off someone who COULD be helped by it.
  9. Caveman's right. The laws of market behaviour mean that unless we get regulatory intervention (highly unlikely) then firewood logs will become a premium product in due course. I've already gone down that path. Better to make the same money from small volume than constantly struggle for higher input volumes.

About £530 with hot grips, including VAT, if you shop around, Jon...
  11. So if your logs are in your cave, where is your bar????!
  12. Nick hits the nail on the head. It's the moisture that matters - when vapourised it kills the secondary burn; that then condenses as tar; flue clogs up; fire risk starts. Sadly few folks seem to realise this, and hence the cowboys get away with selling damp wood. Some even think that if it's sat in the stack for two years they can process it straight into the pickup and sell it as "well-seasoned"...
  13. Sure you can. It's how I get my acetone delivered these days. It used to be the metal drums, but no more.
  14. I use one of those 1 litre bottles with a built in separate chamber for measuring out the right amount of oil. Loosen cap, squeeze the right amount through, remove cap, tip. Done. And there's no law against refilling the bottle from a bulk container when it's empty - which I do. It's a handy bottle/measurer with a label on it saying 2-stroke oil so it doesn't get confused with anything else. Ideal.
  15. That'll be CW. I'm told they're paying silly money for any hardwood going - it's certainly pushed prices up even round here (Worcestershire/Warwickshire border)!
  16. Nominally I've always done 6-8", 8-10" and 10-15". My customers all seem happy. And it's a doddle to judge - if it's below the tyre on my chopping block it's 6-8", above is 8-10", and well above is 10-15".
  17. I do similar to you, and find a combination of 576XP on 20" and 550XP on 15" works extremely well. The wood I get in generally means I run out of fuel on them both at once after a couple of hours - at which point it's cuppa, oil, fuel, sharpen, back to work. HTH!
  18. They're not interested in investigating much over £1000, either - as the letter of apology from the Chief Constable of Warwickshire that adorns my study wall will attest. I did say to the forensics officer at the time - as he sat in his lab drinking tea - that I would pursue it all the way if he didn't turn out to investigate a number of coordinated thefts of high-value items before the evidence was lost... That said, we should count ourselves lucky compared to Stefan Kiszko, Derek Bentley, Jean Charles de Menezes, the dead of Hillsborough, Ian Tomlinson, the Guildford Four, the Birmingham Six, those involved in the Lynette White case... and all their families. Need I go on?
  19. Would you want your customer who bought a new tool be in the 'had it stolen' boat and be out-of-pocket? Caveat emptor: while I feel for the lad, that he didn't check it was stolen before handing over the money does make me wonder what he thought he was doing!
  20. Just don't put "Polite Notice" at the top of it! You never saw one that says: "Rude Notice", did you? 'Polite Notice' just makes me think that whoever wrote the sign doesn't know how to say something nicely :-)
  21. See another thread - use search. It gives you more power :-)
  22. Agreed. Never messed about with mine. Just got on with it. AutoTune does what it says on the tin: tunes itself. So look after the saw, work it sensibly, enjoy the capability This 'setting the autotune' thing is getting like a religious tenet. Do you need that in your life?
  23. And looking from an alternative perspective, I have a Surface and it's rock solid and lightning-fast. It costs a fraction of the Apple stuff, especially when I don't have to buy an iPad as well to get tablet functionality. That said, I can see where you're coming from if your Mac Pro is 8 years old. Those views had some validity 8 years ago - but not now, IMHO. Windows 7 and 8 have both been superb for me, as have recent versions of Office. And 8 years ago you were comparing to XP... But you may have a point on the new era at MS. Still, this makes a change from the usual Stihl vs. Husky threads, eh?! :-D
  24. Correct. As well as federal movement restrictions to be avoided, the US is paranoid about "mold" (i.e. mould) in houses.
