  1. Not if you charge accordingly- which probably ends up being as much as if you had just done the whole job in the first place!
  2. I need a 10inch bar. 3/8, 0.43". I can't seem to find the ruddy thing on any websites iv been looking at. Its to go on a Tanaka TPS270 pole saw. Anyone have the same problem or a source:confused1: Thanks!
  3. Perhaps instead of money being wasted on crappy high speed rail schemes, all new roads and improvement works should incorporate a "non motorised" lane!
  4. I know it comes down to resources and space- but more cycle paths/lanes are the answer, but where do you stop. Honestly there is nothing worse than seeing a cyclist squeezing down the side of the road being overtaken by artic lorries and the like, particularly in the dark when all you can see in front of you is a load of red lights, it only takes someone changing the radio or something. I feel the same about runners and horse riders too.All these kinds of activities should be encouraged but perhaps something done to make the whole thing more streamlined/safer
  5. So many cyclists are a law unto themselves. I never think its a good idea for a cyclist to be sharing the same strip of tarmac as 2 tons on speeding metal. When you hear of accidents the courts always seem to side with the cyclist when its often unjust.
  6. Well I can join the 550 club as of today! Seems a nice saw and certainly packs a punch. Got three weeks of river coppicing coming up so should be ideal for that being lieghweight to use allday yet enough poke to go through some of the bigger stuff.
  7. Can't you get by on a restricted op license? You can't if carrying other peoples goods for hire and reward. I suppose a load of wood chip will count as other peoples 'goods'?
  8. Sounds a rip off! £30 to tip a load of hedge trimmings.....! I'd say £100 is nearer the mark
  9. Definatly has to be this one. I hate any grease gun I have ever come across with a passion. Constant air blocks, then the pusher bit doesn't go inside the cartridge and push the grease out properly. Grease getting EVERYWHERE except where its meant to go. No tool has ever caused me to have a tantrum as much as a grease gun:laugh1: Another tool I hate but can't live without is my wolf long reach pole lopers!
  10. That would be quite a site, people taking their cats out for a walk on leads:001_smile:. I love cats- but hate what they do to wildlife:thumbdown:.
  11. Summing up a u1200. A consideration for me has to be how repairable they are by your average agricultural engineers. I live a long way away from the Mog dealers so it would be uneconomical to haul it up there every time it needed work doing on it. So those with mogs particularly the u1000/u1200, who does repair works on them and do you find its generally pretty easy to get the parts? Thanks.
  12. Can't beat being up with the larks on the moors!
  13. Landys are more than capable of towing 3.5ton I have come to the conclusion towing my 2.8ton digger around, but I keep it under 35 mph and don't force anything. I'm not saying it does it easily but its perfectly capable of it. I really want to use a landcruiser for a week just to see how much better it really is. Comfort doesn't come into it for me, really doesn't fuss me at all where the driving position is or whether it has leather seats and good heating.
  14. Couldn't agree more:001_rolleyes: I'd much prefer spiders in my house then the flys which they catch.
  15. I'm just about to embark on a home brew adventure but I need to get a source of heat for the fermenting stage. What do others use belts, mats?
  16. I'd say that sounds about the right money for the 5-7ton class.
  17. Hmm, I'm not so sure about this, from looking at various photos on internet, the defender salisbury axle/diff looks as substantial if not more so than the land cruiser ones. I'd need to see them both in the flesh to be convinced
  18. Does he charge a transport cost too? Its fair enough if he can work at that rate but much like tree work it does drive the prices down overall.
  19. The advantage off the bank is its a lot easier to pay off if you have spare cash and feel like paying more off than your standard repayments. I would go down this route personally. However, quite often if its new machinery the finance companies often offer better interest rates than bank.
  20. Does anyone know what the running gear diffs/gearbox/axles are like toughness wise in comparison to a defender. I know defenders can be a but of a rough ride and don't have the same lump as these pickups but I'd guess its the running gear which really counts when it comes to heavy towing and loading?
  21. I really want one of those trucks. Is it for sale? And what sort of money? Does anyone know of anyone importing these 'utes' into the UK? I would give my left leg for one!
  22. I always find you can get more money if you put give a price for the job, the reason being a lot of customers don't realise how much work a skilled operator can get done in a day. If you give them a price of £250 they think 'ooh that's a lot' but if you were to give a price of £250 to do a job you secretly know you can get done in a day it seems better value for them. Doobins prices are pretty much spot on really for a good day. It all very well saying you can hire a mini for £70 but in practise by the time you've got fuel for it- either picked it up or paid for delivery the costs start to add up to nearer £100, add usual business expenses like insurance etc and a half decent rate for your labour and any less than £220-250 is a waste of time.
  23. I'm in exactly the same position, booked up till end of May and a lot of customers want it doing it sooner. To be honest, just tell them how it is, there is no point stressing out over it- better to lose out on some work than drive yourself into the ground. I know I'm going to be rushed off my feet for the next 2 month so iv taken this week of to catch up on any paperwork, fix/maintain machinery and generally chill out a bit!
  24. Abbey is my local shop and I avoid at all costs, iv had cock up after cock up and that's dealing with them face to face. The funniest was when I went in with a saw chain and asked them to get me one exactly the same. Took it home only to discover it was 2 inches longer! Plenty of times if ordered stuff and have to keep following up to get anywhere. All for using local dealers but how can you when they're like this. Always had good results from those advertising on here.
