  1. Still 60p + vat in Argyll
  2. Waterlogged wood in my experience dries very light and hence has little energy. The stuff I've come across is because of rot and the fungus has used most of the energy in the wood. If you need it it must be dried in single stacks so as not to pass water to other logs. Dave
  3. Some hope from my trusted forecaster. (26/11/14) Look Ahead - There's that cool Decembe…: Dave
  4. That'll be you selling it then. Get it on Arbtrader
  5. Came across this pdf on an America forum. If we sell wood we should understand as much about the drying and burning process as we can. check out this site http://www.epa.gov/burnwise/workshop2011/WoodCombustion-Curkeet.pdf Dave
  6. Doesn't it need planning to go from agricultural to equine?
  7. Horse triples price! What is it classed at now?
  8. Lowering the depth stop helped me.
  9. It has different characteristics to oak certainly but it's not rubbish! All dry wood has pretty similar energy per kg. Softwood is lighter so yes logs burn quicker but they also dry quicker, are cheaper and also more abundant in the UK. Lots of posts on here about educating customers to the benefits of dry softwood so they realise softwood isn't a no no. Get it dry, get it burnt. Dave
  10. I 've taken 500 today. See me through until next summer
  11. We cant write capitals anymore!
  12. Am waiting for someone to ask for haulage to (insert name of far flung town) for free.......
  13. Until it's dry and when that happens will depend on how you split it and how you store it.
  14. I'd plan how you're going to move 1m 20 inch diameter logs to and on splitter as well.
  15. Best wet them to save disaster.....
  16. Logs are flammable and need to be stored appropriately.......! !
  17. I only supply my immediate area as delivery further kills any profit. Advertising in a small area much easier I think. Word of mouth important, cards in windows useful and a Facebook page completes my approach. No point reaching out to the masses if I can't supply them. Dave
  18. Don't know. His INBOX is full!
  19. Second vote for 372xp. Been running mine as my only saw for 6 years on a 24 and 15 bar. It just keeps cutting! Dave
  20. Rain on and wind backed off. Held long enough for me to cut this morning and deliver this afternoon so not complaining!
  21. Small chance of a 2010 like cold snap before Christmas. Could boost the sales. Dave
  22. The common thread to all your replies is 'good stove'. They are not all created equal. A cheap duff stove won't seal well, will still eat wood and won't warm you. Buy a good 'un!
  23. They're not buying a car so they're not tyre kickers. They're not buying second hand so they're not nice tie, nice suit, no money. They are sounding off about the logs they bought last year at 0% moisture. They are telling you how to use a chainsaw. They are telling you your bags are too small and prices too big. What to call them though? Log rollers? Wood wind ups? Kindling catchers? :-)
  24. Met office latest......warm and wet nov/dec/jan but issued with usual caveats. http://metofficenews.wordpress.com/2014/11/09/the-met-offices-outlook-for-the-start-of-winter-2014/
  25. I've redesigned my business card. It's my main advertising tool and now it has a Facebook page where I talk woodland management, share stove tips and answer questions.
