  1. I found the timberlands to far outlast any others but you do get black hands when they get wet.
  2. old sauce pan, some sawdust soaked in oil and set alight below sump, just keep an eye on it, should do the trick.
  3. I did post a copy of the document produced by the forestry commission. They produced the figures. I assumed they had done the ground work.
  4. this is not the complete document but the most relevant part regarding volume.
  5. difficult to categorise fuel wood apart from the obvious soft/hard and wet/dry. becomes to complicated and confusing for the customer. It certainly would be good to standardise the method sale.
  6. No, the one I have gives clear guidance on selling wood fuel. as well as comparative values for different fuels. There is a code ISBN 0 85538 208 2. I will try and get more info and post soon.
  7. I actually got it about 20yrs ago but assume it is still published; you could try "Publications," Forest Resaerch Station, Alice Holt Lodge, Wrecclesham, Farnham, Surrey GU10 4LH. It came as part of a Commission publication "Wood as Fuel" It would be good if all wood suppliers used this recognised method.
  8. why don't you all read a "code of practice for fuel wood merchants" published by the Forestry Commission and Timber Growers UK. 1m3 solid wood = approx 1 ton, split and loosely stacked, ie thrown, =1.8m3, ie 55% wood and 45% air.
  9. The Forestry Commission and Timber Growers UK produce a guidance leaflet with a code of practice for fuel wood merchants. interesting.
  10. 1m3 solid wood approx 1 ton, split into standard logs (20 - 30cms) 1.8m3 = 45% air. Tight stacking can obviously reduce the amount of air.
  11. Problem is it is the same amount of work to produce but only burns for 3/4 the time.
  12. 1 cubic metre solid wood converted to logs = 1.8 cubic metres split logs. I suspect these bags unless stacked very tightly probably only hold about 1/2 ton.
  13. Lime is very popular, nice to carve, great for detail, not much character but does not crack badly.
  14. I fitted a couple of Komet rings; great for double crotching etc, got them from Buxtons. Not the most comfortable harness.
  15. At moment run 3/8th low profile on 346xp but finding suitable rim sprocket, as they are no longer made, very difficult. Got my present one from Ed Robinson but he reckons there are no more available althougt some Americans are looking for orders to justify having some manufactured.
  16. I have been trying this setup for a while but no sprocket available in 3/8th. Tried running 325 on 16" quarter tip but kept snapping chain. Have not found a solution as yet. If you come across anything let me know.
  17. can you supply info, cond, etc and photos.

  18. Do you still have Holder for sale?
