  1. Definitely agree with this (in part), The difference between CS 31 and CS 32 is the difference between a professional and a layman in my eyes. Any one can fell a small tree, Its the bigger trees that separate the men from the boys!
  2. The moral right? Well everybody's moral's differ, would he be willing to contribute to the cost of removal? legally he may be able could claim the three conifers are a hedge and the neighbor would have to get them reduced. If they are trees then I don't think he can demand their removal, but he can sue the neighbor for any damages incurred from failure of the trees. The neighbor sound like an awkward bugger, so I would give him one chance to come to a mutually beneficial conclusion, then go down the diplomatic route! Photos are always great btw, just in case!
  3. Did have that problem using Internet Explorer but now I'm using Firefox it seems to have resolved the issue!
  4. Hoping to get into consultancy and have a few jobs and what not in the pipe line. I'm wanting a clinometer to make my measurements more accurate. Is it worth shelling out the extra cash for a digital clinometer Let me know your thoughts guys?
  5. We used to pay our lads in the hope that they would eventually work pay the days back by working Saturdays which is great until they realize they have to work Saturdays then we struggle to get them to come in. We also had one lad leave owing hundreds of pounds which we couldn't afford to loose! still haven't got it all back So no, we do not pay for snow days any longer. If the lads wish they can work Saturdays to earn more!
  6. I Bet he was thinking about the ecological value that the branch stump would have when it died haha
  7. How much did you spend a month do you think? I would like to give it a go just to try raise my ranking in other areas! How long was it before you were given a voucher? Last question, how do you check what companies around you are also using it? Thanks
  8. 1k sounds about right! There was funding for the training from the Rural Development Initiative however I think this has since subsided. May be worth a look at though, it cut 70% from the cost!
  9. Spotifie is amazing, Its Free and the artists that all the people that bring out the songs dont loose out either, deffinatly the future of media!!!!
  10. Can this be right? Why on eath do people pay council tax do we not get anything for it any more! Undoubtably it will have a knock on effect to us and more cowboys will be taking more risks and putting trees and people in danger! If this is so as always the people who do things by the book will ultimatly be the ones who get stung!
  11. The Scandinavian cut is much like the dog tooth you gob out, then bore in and cut towards the back of the tree, then you remove part of the saw so you leave a support at the back, then your saw is out and you can put your breaker bar/ wedge. Then simply finish of the rest of the cut! admittedly wasn't on the CS 31 course when I did it a bit over 4 year ago, but i went on a course to learn how to become an instructor and i was tought this, very useful cut for basically all trees!
  12. Alright mate how you doing, saw you avatar of the large vermeer chipper, was just messaging to ask what its like we were looking at getting one a while back, actually bought one but the deal went sour!

Are they easy to fix and get parts for?

    Do they need repairing?

any thoughts or comments on it would be great thanks!

  13. Awww give him a chance Ash can be a pain in the arse, i would usually do a dog tooth! or even a scandinavian cut (donno about the spelling) but that is a great, especially with the breaker bar!
  14. Ahh, but do you price accordingly?
  15. Well yes! but only as much as a yellow pages advert or any other advert that containes your address! My yard gets broken into probably twice a year and its adress is not listed any where on anything, only the office (my house) is
  16. Would always charge! You are delivering a product if the client requires a service because they're too lazy to move it them selves they should expect to pay for it! If not its taking up time which you could be getting paid for
  17. They are very comfortable to wear but they only last about 4 weeks before they start to get ripped by the 6th week you may as well throw awway! I have had two pairs and I do like them but for the expense they just don't last long enough!
  18. If you log onto your google places account you can actually manually alter where you are located I had to do this although it was only about 500 yards off!
  19. I think it is good to discuss these issues as proffesionals however we do need to be careful that it doesn't become scare mongouring! As for the cause of the accident sujested to be traffic fumes and salt dagage I very much doubt this as surely this wood kill branches which would become brittle, and light! I would think that this was a fracture cause by obviously HIGH WINDS.

  21. I completed the foundation degree last year. There is such a broad scope of reading you need to try pin it down to something actually useful that you will need next year. I would definatly recomend reading up on CODIT (compartmentalisation of decay in trees) Shigos tree biologyand tree care covers it which is relativly cheap, however a must get which covers a very broad range is called Arboriculture priced at around £50 If you drop me a message I will give you the authors details. Also the tree climbers companion an excellent little book very well written (especially for us worker folk) great illistrations this will help a lot in arb principles.
  22. 50% is too much, however unfortunatly as much of an education you gain in arboriculture one fact remains the same the client is always right! you can advise against it but in my experiance the public in general hold light in higher esteem then having a healthy tree! If you dont do it someone else will!
  23. We have a rayban which heats the entire house (15 radiators) using logs its great, when its cold enough to have full blast all the time, trying to get it to stay in all night can be a pain and in the spring/ autumn when your not sure weather to light it it can also be a pain if there is an unexpected cold snap. It is very nice to be able to burn our free fuel, we trade timber for coal so use that too. Worth it if your willing to put in the time making fires, cleaning it out and cleaning the room is in (there pretty dirty). Word to the wise have a back up heating system i.e. gas incase you want hot water fast, when the fire is not lit!
  24. Is this right in all circumstances, what if you have a massive beech in a back garden that has to be ringed and quarted would you still do it with a chain that is not performing well, regardless of how sharp it is! I tend to sharpen at least twice per day if im using the same saw all day, why would any one want to have to put more effort into using the saw, reduce the safety factor and put more stress on your chainsaw!
  25. We have used MB Tracs for years now the 1000 model is 100 hp the 800 im not so sure about but we did have one and it is deffinatly not as powerful. Having said that they are very nice little tractor fantastic off roaders and the turbo probably does boost it up
