  1. Haha, I do like to work things out Ben The pork is lovely, almost dare i say it, as good as mine:corkysm21: got some sausages out for tomorrow, and had some chops the day we picked up Thank you for the compliment on the offcuts, they're selling pretty well once people get round to the idea that they can cope without the look of logs when it's offset against the ridiculous heat these chuck out!
  2. brewpup, sorry for late reply, i've had family over this evening... I'm near Halstead in North Essex, give me a ring on 07910 520 945 if this is suitable. Cheers Chris.
  3. was this not a good deal then folks??
  4. why do so many folks with wood burners insist on having hardwood for their stoves?? If it's of any interest to you brewpup i'll take your 2 cube of green wood in exchange for 4 cube of untreated kiln dried softwood offcuts... you're sorting the transport though
  5. i'm doing some thinning in a semi mature oak copse. i've offered £15/tonne. although a lot of what i'm taking is dead/dying so i expect it to weigh a little under than live oak anyway. 6"-24" stuff
  6. just needs a set of delimbing knives now:thumbup:
  7. sorry, my bad:blushing:
  8. hmmm, i may have caused some confusion here... the sets i'm referring to are approx 10-12ft in height and between 30 and 60mm diameter. they're planted at 9-11 yard spacings and allowed to mature to 60 inch circumference for cricket bats.
  9. certainly for willow sets there is little need for weed control, i have two plantations that are not grazed by my cattle and i've not done anything with them at all. just rabbit guards, although very occasionally i'll find one that has been savaged by deer, but these losses are minimal
  10. if your supplier deems it "tuff luck mate" then definitely time to move supplier. i think it's well worth a polite questioning, to give the guy/gal a chance to rectify the problem. they should, if they're a decent sort, offer to replace with suitably dry logs or offer a refund. not worth the effort of burning unseasoned wood, remember what it does to your chimney... best of luck with it!
  11. i'd say a good price. it's the same they paid for last years trees. for the amount of work involved i'm quite happy with it.
  12. My family have used Wrights for probably the last 45 years. Absolutely no complaints with their service. Re. the growth rates of willow the fastest we've grown a bat willow to the optimum 5 foot circumference (roughly 20 inch diameter) is 16 years. I've used the tops for a couple of years now as firewood to sell, this year mixed with conifer (thanks Frosty!!) and am selling this at £80 per cube. Next year's is to be mixed with sweet chestnut. Whilst it wont last as long as a hardwood mix it certainly burns hot, but i am able to supply it cheaper than the hardwood as i'm not paying for the cord! I do produce kindling now as well, but i've yet to try any volume of willow in the kindlett, I find it a very stringy timber to split, but having said that i will be trying some soon. This year i was paid £270 per trunk, with Wrights supplying new sets FOC on the understanding i will continue to do business with them. We harvest around 30 trees each year from a continuous stock of around 600 trees.
  13. well it was worth me dropping in on potential customers, got one new one on board and won back another who i've had before:001_smile: be better if it was snow and not rain though, still pretty slow on firewood and kindling to be honest
  14. I beat the rain! managed to get a load of joinery offcuts home and under cover before it started:001_smile: had a stray dog looking very bedraggled turn up, the wife remembered seeing a lost dog post on facebook and after a brief phonecall to the owner i'm now £20 better off:thumbup1: (well, my little boy is, i put it straight in his money box before i had the chance to spend it!) will spend the rest of the morning canvassing for trade (kindling wood) among local retailers, my favourite job. NOT:blushing:
  15. got to be either sweet chestnut or robinia i would have thought... just so happens that i'm working on SC stakes etc at the moment, haulage would probably kill it though...
  16. I may well be able to help, have just finished cutting a plot of SC and am in the process of converting the harvest into posts, stakes, rails etc. Give me a shout on 07910 520945. I'm near Halstead, Essex. Chris
  17. you could try Brentwood Burners. when i had my burner fitted 2 years ago my plumber sourced it for me from here, i understand he used to be a fitter for them, anyhow, he got mine cost price with a bit of blagging. worth an ask if you're after quantities. P.S, tony if you're getting on well with that pallet dismantler and would like another i still have the other one you saw here could be pretty reasonable...
  18. pm sent, thanks for the reccomendations Ben and Egg:001_smile:
  19. giving this a 2nd listen right now, something special this. nice one posting.
  20. what happened to the daily game?? am i the only one missing this?
  21. You after cedar feather edge? I've got a guy in Halstead I could recommend.
  22. HAHAHA You sure it shouldn't be you asking us what he discloses on here... You should see the kind of things he says, shocking really.
