  2. first sell on ebay, this is going to inverness!
  3. There ya go treedave, just a four pair for in my hallway! Of course I could use a larger half round, would be able to get more pyro on it then...
  4. Funny you should mention this, my cousin has just had this task today at his garage...
  5. Started work on a 4 pair wall mounted tonight as it happens....
  6. Thankyou for the kind comments. Worcswuss, that's exactly the feedback I was after, thankyou, it really does give me confidence to hear i'm on the right tracks...
  7. Made this for a friend yesterday, I was looking for some feed back on pricing from you guys, I charged £40 for the basic job then £1.50 per character for the pyrography. Made from part seasoned Sweet Chestnut, uprights internally wedged, all finished in boiled linseed oil.
  8. Can I have a leaf id please... This took me about an hour to forge from half inch stock using fines from the bottom of the charcoal grader.
  9. Quite so! exactly why i didn't want to buy something mass produced in china, this way it actually looks like i've done it. and always something to learn from the experience too, i decided after the photo to add an extra bit of weight to the drop end as although it did latch of it's own accord it wasn't as positive as i'd like. now i can take that into account with the next one.
  10. finally got round to finishing the gate i made maybe 3 months ago... made the latch last night. a bit rough and ready but please bare in mind the title of the thread...
  11. Pass as to your question but i've got a pallet dismantler for sale if it's of any interest...
  12. Shaun, your family's experience in the hospital really hit me hard, 16 months ago my wife gave birth to our first son, and reading your account sent shivers down me. We didn't have such a traumatic time but I recall holding Joseph for the first time and realising I hadn't a clue how to care for him. What must have been going through your mind at that time for you I can only guess. I am a blood donor and it gives a tremendous feeling knowing that I might help to save a life, I'm so relieved to hear that there were enough blood stocks in the right place to save your wife. Also massive respect to all involved hospitals, we all take the NHS for granted to a certain extent I feel. I can only echo Button's message folks; it really doesn't take a lot to donate, please look into it if you can.
  13. i can follow what you mean from your description alec, i might try that with another pair, although before i go too mad i need to have a look at the farm where my cousin rents a workshop, that place is like the mary celeste, there's a forge room there and i may be able to pick up a load of tools for not a lot of gold, i believe it was pretty much abandoned back in the mid 80's. however there have been a couple of pie key jobs done and so there is probably not a lot of metal of any sort left...
  14. thank you, i know with the next pair i need to be quicker to do the twists, both tore a little... still, i'm well pleased for my first job!
  15. tried my hand at a bit of blacksmithing, i wanted to make some hinges for my cleft gates, and now i've hung one of them i need a latch. before i can attempt that i had to make some tongs. these took me just over an hour. using my own charcoal also, will get some pics of the very basic forge sometime...
  16. steve, try and find out if you have any small scale aggregate suppliers, i got a load of topsoil for my garden, was "cleanings" from bury beet factory, top stuff!
  17. woohoo! well done, that's what i was after! windfall, sorry if i was unclear, i want to know if it is at all worthwhile to supply to cpl, fuel express, big k etc etc. billy68, straight forward and to the point, thank you. so, if it isn't worth doing, how are these companies getting their stock at all? busy fools??
  18. Really?? Nobody has any input on this? Hard to believe...
  19. how do you get on with deliveries to those places? do you have a minimum order to justify the travelling? I agree whole-heartedly with the Co-op idea, i guess the quality and consistency would need to be stringently regulated but I don't see why the idea shouldn't work, I would be up for joining for sure. Trouble is, how does one go about starting such a group?

  20. Thanks for warning, this is exactly the type of advice i was hoping for, just a straightforward answer. Will see what the rest of the answers are like... :)

  21. Who on here actually supplies kindling to the likes of CPL and Fuel Express etc? I'm exploring my options of expansion and would like some feedback from any of you who may have or do supply these types of distributors.
  22. Steve, I think it's a good idea to be asking this, it's more accurate than second guessing our customers needs. As you say the obvious targets have already been met, but perhaps it's the more subtle points that need illustrating... For instance, does it aid the customer that I palletise and stretch wrap my kindling nets? It certainly works for me as a producer for ease of handling and stock rotation.
  23. I got fed up of taking the skin off my knuckles on the heap of logs whilst unloading with the original handle, so i made up an extension, works a treat! (Have I earned a keyring??!! ) Similar handle to original. Picture 1 My extension. Pictures 2 & 3.
  24. Hi Martin, hope you can find what you're after. Really not a bad place to sell yourself but 1 thing that has been suggested recently is providing a video CV. To those who may consider this guy as a worker, I can vouch that he is from a hard working family and would be well worth a chance to prove himself.
