  1. Fair one Have a look at the 550xp in that case or see if you can still pick up a 346xp.
  2. Flipline is a flipline really , unless you get one with 3 way snap already on it. I have a Yale one. As for spikes , velcro doesn't last long , it doesn't stay sticky for long either. Leather straps for the win. Not flashy but last for ages.
  3. What sort of tool trys to drive that through a flood. What a weapon , clearly more money than sense.
  4. Surely a 361 with a 16" bar is perfect for everyday use ? Plenty of guys using them at my work , nice saw.
  5. That would be my guess.
  6. I tried that and shes still fat.
  7. Harness 4 Karabiners 30m Rope 3-4m Rope for sidestrop 3 Prussik loops or enough friction cord to make your own. Thats the very basics that will get you climbing. Prussik is very easy to learn for a beginner.
  8. This. I had a stein for the 2 years and it fell apart , replaced it with a Vertex which i've had 9 months now. Quality lid. Much cooler than the Stein to as the helmet sits on webbing not foam. Also you can shut the vents in wet weather.
  9. 0 feedback dude , go figure.
  10. That is sad. Must of driven past that tree hundreds of times and noticed the tents on a few occasions , only 5 mins from my house. Everywhere is flooded round here at the moment , bad times.
  11. So more info may help ? Friction hitch diameter , rope brand etc 10mm friction cord (Oean Polyester) and 13mm rope (Yale XTC) work really well for me. Thats using a Knut.
  12. Its all personal preference. You really need to try as many as you can until you find one thats comfortable for you.
  13. Sorry fellas. Not contentious at all. Communication breakdown , english was never my strong point Just to finally clarify , I spliced WORK owned ropes and the in house LOLER chap cut them off because they were obviously not CE approved. Understandable. Anyway..........back to the Hitch climber. I tried that , really liked it actually. Especially for longer pulls back up it was nice being able to pull from below , very easy. Only really works once you've got a TIP , change overs would be a PITA.
  14. Nail on the head. How has this thread turned in a splice discussion. I was just exited to have used and liked the hitch climber
  15. I'll try the larks foot , thanks. I was going to try a piece of rubber to close the loop. The splice is king , no denying that , but i don't fancy buying my own ropes so the 'long' bowline it is. Yeah, i did.
  16. Your probably right , i don't have a problem with them doing that. My point was it put me off trying the Hitch climber but it now seems that you can without a splice and a short friction hitch.
  17. 3 in total, i had spliced 1 eye in each of my ropes (15m , 30m and 45m) Our LOLER is in-house and they were work supplied ropes.
  18. I know. Ok , i do love the feel of the OP. Very smooth and predictable with the Knut. Anything without a CE mark and they get very funny.
  19. Well , thats not strictly true. I used it once before and was unsure , then to add insult to injury the LOLER man cut all my non-CE approved splices off my ropes. So the pulley and biners sat in my kit bag for 6 months . Anyway , i've set it up with OP on XTC using a Knut (which is awesome) tied as short as possible. Using it with a bowline too (i know its not recommended) and with the knut tied short there is no fear of it interfering with the friction cord. Just using a regular cambium saver to , i have a pulley saver but will try that after a few weeks climbing on it. Found it all fairly awkward at first but perservered regardless. It all seemed to fall in to place today though, its a very very smooth way of climbing once you get the hang of the different hand positions etc. Found myself reaching up for my friction cord alot when it was only in front of me I can really see myself getting the hang of it. Lovin' it. I have noticed the OP looking very rough after only 3/4 climbs though. Work provide us with Marlow Boa so will try that next.
  20. I'd suggest trying as many harnesses as possible first. Personally i love my Harkie and haven't found anything more comfortable. I tried the Tree Austria , Sequoia and Skylotec but found them all uncomfortable. I did however like the Tree motion (tried a friends that wasn't set-up to my body shape) but my work don't supply those so the Harkie it was.
  21. You've not noticed ill effects climbing Douglas fir ? I've had to change rope and friction cord halfway through a day before now due to sap. Those damn bubbles. Thank god for rope grabs.
  22. I went at mine with fairy liquid , hot water and a brush in the sink. All ropes , friction hitches etc in the washing machine on a low temp , come out like new. My colleague put his flip line in the washing machine but not sure i'd be happy with that clunking around in there.
  23. Amazing. Love the predator one.
  24. Yes mate , that would be ace. Thanks.
  25. Its a great Harness. I got given one of the early ones to test/destroy and Harkie changed and improved all the bits i didn't like and strengthened the bits that broke. (superficial bits i should add) I've been climbing on the final version for a year now and love it , it hasn't missed a beat and isn't showing its age. I liked the Butterfly but it wasn't very comfortable , hated the Tree Austria , loved the Tree Motion but my work wouldn't supply one of those. Found the Sequoia and the Skylotec uncomfortable. Harkie is bob-on for me. My only gripe now is i wish the bridge was a little longer but thats me being fussy.
