  1. Pole saw - great idea, the sharp end is a long way away - keep you away from Greek hospitals:thumbup:
  2. You sound like you are not a very experienced saw user - top handled saws are extremely dangerous as you have a lot less operating leverage than on a typical rear handled saw. I generally use rear handled saws and find having both hands so close together on a saw un-natural, the temptation is to use one with one hand but can lead you to hold branches whilst cutting causing the possibility of cutting in to your free arm. You may find a Stihl MS181 or 171 a bit more managable - the MS200T is a great, robust and powerful saw but is lethal in the hands of the inexperienced! They are a fab climbers tool but if you do go down this route - know the dangers of using this saw and take the correct precautions.
  3. The job itself is relatively easy - if the saw has seized, determining why it has done so is worth investigating. Ensuring the crankcase is airtight is important, if you are fitting a P&C kit then that is fine as they will be a matched pair - if fitting just a new piston then there are a few things extra you will need to know! A compression check will prove out the new parts. It all depends on your mechanical ability.

    Farm saw

The Husky 136 isn't a patch on the 345 and 350, it is ok for what it is but doesn't have the same handling and power. It is Husqvarnas version of the Stihl MS171/181 saws
  5. Think you may be better off on Piston heads.com or petrol heads.co.uk:thumbup: If the hydraulic tappets have not been filling properly then they can tap noisily so if regular oil changes havent been done then it probably is a mixture of old age and abuse. In my experience it is best to throw all you can at it to fix it if you want it doine right. Measure up the diameter of the valve stems and replace as necessary, if the valves are worn then replace the valve guides - not sure if you can drive them out or not - only done them on an old mini years ago - do the springs whilst you are at it and clean up those ports - the cylinder heads do lots of work - and can let through lots of oil:thumbdown:

  17. Hows about getting them ready for Capel Manor - get them on one of the stands - I'm sure some of the sponsors on here would be glad to take them and how about the 20th one sold gets a free goody bag:thumbup: Bugger - been in sales and marketing too long - no wonder I also spend so much time in the man cave turning crap in to gold!! Let us all know if this is going down:thumbup1:
  18. Better get this post back in line!!! I use an electric but use it wet - shaving gel (not foam) and a bit of water on the shaving head - it gives very good results for me and I have growth like a yard brush:thumbup1:
  19. If I am struggling to kip, I usually focus on a particularly happy memory or time of my life and think of that rather then the stress of the day. It usually works for me but the only time I have had problems sleeping were when I was much younger and completely stressed at work - seven day weeks, 12 hour days etc - bad, bad , bad - it gets better with age and you learn that nothing really matters apart from you and your family:thumbup1:
  20. My wife made the guys doing the block drive bacon rolls and coffee - they did a cracking job though and good value so I think it worked. Cheeky sods did the neighbours drive and asked me for bacon rolls and coffee - I said ask the new boss:001_tt2:
  21. The beast.....it lives.....all big buddies again, group hug:thumbup: All ends well - a haze of blue smoke and a smile!
  22. Hi Ben,

I have a Stihl 020 and a MS200t ready to go, the 020 is probably in slightly better overall condition. I am looking at £250 + £10 delivery for the MS200 and £235 + £10 del for the 020. Both have been stripped down and cleaned and come with new sprocket and clutch springs.

Let me know if you are interested

    Regards

    Steve

  23. Not sure if you are being serious but I was stating that both two and fourstroke engines do have systems in place to ensure a spark happens at the right place after you said two strokes dont have any form of ingition timiing - I could expand this on to cams and points as per much older two stroke engines but think thaat it best you guys send your blown up saws to me and I will fix them - broken flywheel keys a speciallity - I love backfiring chainsaws!!
  24. What you need is one of those motion seeking canons like on the film - Aliens - I gather the US Army have similar nowerdays - nice:thumbup:
