  4. The 034 could me a multitude of problems - I would firstly check the compression or at least remove the muffler and look at the piston to ensure it isn't scored. That out of the way, I would check the breather - simple check is to losen the fuel cap and see if the saw will start. CHeck the impulse line - not sure if it is separate on this model, check the fuel line isn't cracked, check the fuel filter and also give the carb internals a thorough clean and set back to factory setting. Very difficult to fault find this sort of problem as it can be caused by a number of things - when the saw doesn't start when warm - have you checked the coil for spark? It could also be a coil breaking down! If you get stuck then I have fixed up saws for other members on the site!
  5. These were always the usual suspects for modded, non original sports and kit cars - Hopefully they will take a logical take on your vehicle. My house insurance went up from £290 to £640, usual tactic - cheap year one and doubles year two - went on go compare - back to £280:thumbup:
  6. Depends on how much dosh you have spare and if you buy new or used. Many saws on ebay have typically worn sprockets, need carb work or if non runners, have been seized. Top ground saws - Husky 346XP is about the best, the MS260 is pretty good, if you have less dosh but like a bit of power, I like the Husky 350 or 345, they are pretty good value, good balance and really rip. MS200T - only use if you are an experienced climber and NOT a good choice for what you want - the rear handled version is a different matter. On a real budget, the 141 Husky and MS170/180 are decent budget saws but you wont get the same cutting performance as the 350/345 as mentioned above. If you get stuck PM me - have a few saws ready to go or have others that can be made ready.

I have no experience of these saws but in my experience, Husqvarna, Stihl and Jonsered have climbed to their respective position in the market place for a reason - good solid well built and widely supported chainsaws and other equipment. Dolmar/Makita are also worth a mention! I can still get spares for 30 year old saws - that is what it is all about I doubt whether the MItox saw will make it over two years. I recently serviced some Zomax saws - they were absolute rubbish and won't ever buy another - the chainbrake was very weak and badly made, the recoil was poor and started to crack, the cylinder looked poorly made with burning around the top cover by the spark plug and it leaked oil - the love was not there. So unless someone else has had a fab experience with Mitox, I would personally avoid them - just my opinion after servicing both new an old saws from the top three! Oh - the residual cost in Stihl and Husqvarna is very high on re-selling them as used!

I do a lot of travelling and have one of these - VisorLite go bluetooth portable car kit Portable carkits < £44.99 - The Carphone Warehouse Good thing about it is it clips on to the sun visor so the mike and speaker is where you need it - up by your head which means you get less noise and clearer sound. The battery also lasts for ever and is chargeable off the lighter power. It was recommended by a good mate at Carphone warehouse - probably cheaper on ebay though:thumbup:

  11. Yes - possibly the needle valve in the carb is seeping fuel in to the engine!
  12. Thats great - good there was an explanation and hope you get it sorted quickly - be interested in if the head develops the same sort of power as the OEM one.
  13. I was assuming that because the 026, MS260 and 024 were closed port, the MS240 would follow but it looks like it has the cheaper open ports. Looks like I was right with the 020T (MS200T forerunner and not the 020AVT!) What about the last one - was it the 320XP?

That must be the Husqvarna 3120XP then - thought those ports looked a little good for an older saw:001_rolleyes: RE - 020T - loks like cleaning the air filter regularly would solve the issue - dousing in hot water and one of these bubbling fabric cleaners is a good idea. The other one looks like the plating has come off and the piston is bluing the surrounding area due to overheating - will be fine until the plating starts coming off above the exhaust port - your compression will drop off then and it will finally die:thumbdown: Good to know that a saw can run with damage like that!

The cylinder would probably be fine but personally I would have mailed the seller every couple of days - maximum of three times and say you will put the complaint through ebay if you don't get resolution, if this has no effect then raise a complaint through ebay and put it in their hands. As a buyer you have far more rights than as a seller and ebay will sort it out - normally you are asked to send back the part recorded delivery and then you will receive the money back - I would hope that Arb Ireland would sort it well before this stage. You could try mailing them saying that they can see the damaged parts on this site - and the fact many people including myself have purchased parts from them and were happy with the service. There are many chancers on ebay and they may think you are one of them? If I wanted a kit for a 346 I would have purchased it from them - they are doing themselves no favours in not sorting this - last resort - use the resolution centre.
  21. er - I said 020T:confused1: Anyway - poor filter maintenance causes damage to the inlet (carb) side of the bore so if this wear is on that side only then it is the filter, if it is on both sides then it has just done its job and worn out through use. I would need to see a bit more of the cylinder than that to make a call on the second one - the outside of it would help - hows about a 028 stihl
  22. I was talking about the top two pics by the way, the bottom one is closed port and has the plating ripped off the bore.

Its open ported so a small saw or a non pro saw - possibly a 020T but is difficult to tell the size of the bore - not a 240 0r 200T - the 240 is closed port and the MS200T has a divider in the transfer port to help guide the fuel oil mix. Some of the damage looks like the plating has worn through to the aluminium, some looks like the plating has got so hot, it has been ripped off the bore - not seen this sort of damage before - at least not that sort of size of patch.
  24. I have read about this problem with circlips failing on some non OEM pistons - usually overcome by using the OEM circlips rather than the ones supplied - just make sure the wire they are made of is the same gauge wire!
