  1. Yup, it was either the hot tub or the mother of all cleaners, I think his wife was a bit pissed off when it arrived:blushing:
  2. I would normally just pop the carb out, take the covers off, inspect and pop it back, won't take long and you may not need parts. It is rare a carb MUST have a carb kit fitted, they sometimes go hard and sometimes parts wear to the point they need changing but not that often.
  3. Yup, when you take the covers off the carb, note if there is fuel present under them. I would suspect that you will find fuel under the alloy single screw cover but not in the chamber under the diaphragm!
  4. Sounds like the needle jet in the carb needs a tweak or is stuck. Take the four screw cover off, remove the diaphragm and lift the metering arm around 0.5mm and try again. It is also worth removing the other cover and checking the gauze strainer.

  11. Generally they turn in some good compression figures, 170-180 psi is common - just one of those saws!
  12. Yes, that's the one, I find it OK for the 70 metres of conifer hedging I have, makes topping it a lot easier and I can do most of the facing off bar the top couple of feet with it. If mine struggled I would port it:blushing:

  14. No Idea but in theory they should be close. I know someone that has used a 395XP ported by me, a 385XP with the same and has an MS660 and he rates the 395XP above all! Just ported his 064 as below, thought I may have over cooked the inlet duration but ended up with 75 degrees, 79 degrees on exhaust and 18 degrees of blow-down so pretty much spot on and fired it up on the same carb settings as it was and it is mega rich so know it has had the right effect and just needs a good run up and carb tune!

  16. Ah, the old impulse line coming off, that is one I forgot and worth a check as it will produce and air leak!
  17. Seen that on one I had just repaired, the guy wasn't too happy as the saw was expelling smoke and something like paraffin. I put in fresh fuel and bingo, another fix:thumbup:

  19. Echo are well worth a look at. I don't use mine professionally but when they get used....they get USED and rate them as many others do. I have the longest 1 metre (I think) blade, very useful as I can face off 8' tall hedges with no ladder and it has the scoop so the trimmings don't falling to the hedge and stifle it in time! Oh - and they have low vibes and are well made:thumbup:
  20. Think I have seen those photos before Barrie:thumbup: still very informative and did that exact same tune on an Echo trimmer for Wolfie a few days ago....all good stuff. Those old Kawasaki strimmers are good bits of kit, the coils can be a bit iffy sometimes but are very strong otherwise and still make good money!

Unless they fitted the same Walbro carb on the 357XP:001_rolleyes: I think all saws have their own little issues and once you know them, successful repair is relatively easy and we also only ever see the ones that have failed! I now fit new accelerator pumps to ALL MS200Ts that come in for a refurb irrespective of any symptoms. It just saves all the to and fro when the thing plays up!
