  1. Cheers Ian, looking forwards to the next caper! Will email you tomorrow am.
  2. Sorry, but if my strop looked like that even before it snapped I think I would have bought a new one!
  3. Thanks for the tips Paul, my balance is pretty good being a bit of a shorta**e, low centre of gravity and all that. Hopefully the more climbing I do, the more the six-pack will emerge from winter hibernation beneath it's layer of fat! When the guy said £120 my jaw nearly dropped, but to be fair he labelled up everything for me and recorded it and fixed a couple of items, so no dramas. Should be cheaper next time.
  4. Cool vids Tom.
  5. I did have my big tripod ladder with me, but only used it to get up to the main fork. I don't do enough climbing and after spending £120 on my first LOLER inspection I want to use my kit! Plus, it was a nice sunny day for a climb.
  6. I like the 3rd one down. "Top Handled Saws: One Handed Use Identifying Health and Safety Issues" Simple and to the point.
  7. Cheers guys, glad to know I was doing things right.
  8. Hi Ian. I didn't get your email again. Not sure what's up with that. I'm up for the 2nd. Could you send the email again?

  9. Glad it's not me being a bit of a wuss then!
  10. Cool. I don't use Wasp, but was thinking of trying some ocean polyester on my xtc+. Am considering leaving my klemheists behind and entering the dark arts of pulleys!
  11. Thanks for your thoughts. I used my side-strop for positioning, and in retrospect after reading your reply, there was nothing to stop me whacking the other end of my climbing line up to a higher anchor for a better angle. I can be a bit dense at times! It was nice climbing in the sun for a change though!
  12. Hi all. Just want some opinions from the experienced chaps. Did a bit of pruning today on a small crack willow, about 30ft high and maybe 40ftwide, open canopy. Had to branch walk out to take some lower branches in, and as I wasn't comfortable with putting my main anchor point on smaller diameter wood, it being willow, the angle of my rope was quite shallow making things a bit awkward. Had to lay along the branches pretty much to get to the ones getting the silky treatment. Customer was happy with results, as was I. Just wondering if you guys would have been comfortable putting a higher main anchor point in a willow or was I right to be cautious? Cheers for your time.
  13. What friction cord are you using with it?
  14. Ilex aquifolium?
  15. Dragons blood tree? Dracaena cinnabari
  16. Looks like you had a cracking day lads.
  17. Quite right, the media are notoriously ignorant. Many condolences to family and friends.
  18. I've done a couple of days work for a chap like that. He pays me a very good wage considering my level of experience. He's a top bloke.
  19. Well, I can't say about cord wood, as I've never burnt it, but Ash brash has gone up like an inferno when I've burnt it!
  20. How about Ash? Fast growing, seasons quicker for burning.
  21. I'd be up for it.
  22. Just got back after doing some hazel coppicing. Was supposed to be deadwooding an ash and a pine but a wee bit too windy. Always another day!
  23. We can always advise the client as to what's in the best interests of the tree, leaving it alone in other words. But the tree's in the customers garden, then they can do with it as they please (unless TPO'd or Conservation Area etc) and if it pleases them to pay us and help us support our families, then do the work I say. This is what we do.
  24. You should rename this thread The Chillout Lounge! (Or Chillout Lunge, whatever your preference! )
