  1. Knotsure, there are many many people in the industry (including plenty or arbtalkers) who have a genuine love and interest in trees and woodlands. I'd like to think of myself as one and mr Silky Fox is certainly one of those too from my personal experience. Indeed it is an inspiring thread - Welcome to the all consuming, totally addictive world of 'arb'! P.s Paul i hope you like your new shiney piece of kit?!
  2. great to hear lots of opinions, im really struggling to make a decision myself!

  6. I buy my kit from Carrs in Bristol. I grew up 8 miles away in north Somerset and went to school with the owners son and daughter. They give me a fair price, look after my machines well, get me anything I need ordered and can post to me next day if I'm not up that way (visiting family and friends). My local shop are a complete rip off, and did the most shocking work on my 088. They used the wrong sized piston stop on it and put a dent in the top of the piston which cracked and knackered the saw. They had charged my a lot of money to do this and wouldn't accept it was there fault or give me a refund or money back/off. They also failed to fix my hedge trimmers when they wernt working, Carrs fixed it in no time for not very much. I now hiss at the shop every time I drive past. It's a shame because I would much prefer to pop round the corner like I used to but I'm not supporting clueless, overpriced, donkeys!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  7. My best mate from back home had an horrific accident free soloing and is lucky to be alive. Dislocated both ankles (nearly had to had both feet cut off) and snapped both achilles tendons. Got airlifted to hospital and spent a long time recovering. As a result I have never considered climbing without protection since. On a lighter note.... I can feel an Arbtalk rock climbing get together coming on!!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Unfortunately I've found my finger strength on crimps is nowhere near what is was. I went to calshot indoor wall nr soton recently and due to lack of opportunities last summer I found myself to be as weak as a kitten!! Must get back on it Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Done like a kipper here too!!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  16. You have made it clear that the reason for selling is to finance something else..... But will you be sad to see the mog go? I'm currently looking for a landy 130 tipper myself. I do a lot of work offroad and my log yard is down a rough old track and through a sticky gateway. My transit struggles to say the least!! Must also mention that of course I also do a hell of a lot of work in suburbia too hence the transit. I only ask are you sad to see the mog go because having been researching the cost of a new/newish landy tipper (£20-35k)I could probably be getting a bl00dy good mog for the money. Which then leads onto which would be cheaper to run, more suitable for general use etc etc. Big headache! I would be interested in your thoughts. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  17. The missus cannot understand why I would be getting excited about typing online to other blokes about the size of their chainsaw bars/chains.... She clearly hasn't put a small bar on a 660 and witnessed the carnage!!!!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  18. Put an 18" bar on my 660 with a brand spanking new chain. Ripping through macrocarpa like you would not believe!! Mainly run 25" or 30" though on a regular basis. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  21. Yorkshireman. Very good advice regarding putting £££ to one side. Very easy to get carried away in good times, but when the phone stops ringing for whatever reason you can get bitten - very hard!! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App

  23. We were having this very conversation in the truck on the way home tonight - I find that people who are employed ( get the magical sum of money that appears in their bank account on the last day of every single month ) tend to struggle to comprehend how we compose our pricing strategy and what it costs to run a 3 or 4 man team with nigh on a £100k's worth of kit, fixed and variable costs. Shocked replies of "HOW MUCH!!" the end result. Contrary to that I often speak to people who run their own businesses or are self employed and they comment on how expensive it must be to buy machines and keep the kit going. Rarely have to justify prices. Interesting. And as for people going in with silly prices - Best of bl00dy British to you, after the week we've had dismantling a monster Macrocarpa...... why oh why would you do it for peanuts.
  24. Had a conifer snap out on me 6 years ago but luckily the anchor point got well and truly hung up and I managed to get my side strop on pronto and detach the main line. Looking back it was a very wide tree and it would have been hard to get any where near the deck but i still needed heavily sugared tea and a sit down after that! Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
