Not strictly tree related but countryside related

A lovely spot to have luncheon by the river. For a change it wasn't heaving with yokels having a paddle in the river. Also some shots of a minor mud n flooding issue which we will be resolving soon. -

Not quite pebbledash but concrete which has been smoothed over where members of the public might brush up against it but it has been left rough on the top of the arch. Health n safety bods said falling bricks was a massive risk as the bridge hadn't been maintained for years. The contractors who did the work said it was the biggest PITA job because of the construction of the bridge and the strength of mortar and bricks. What do your mates think of the trailway?

Nice looking job there. We have a load of bridges out in the west as well as several hundred metres of board walk which have been ripped up by the recent floods. We have just not been able to get to the jobs unless on foot and i dont fancy carrying bridge beams across boggy fields.

Any arbtalking veg growers in da house?
Matthew Arnold replied to Tony Croft aka hamadryad's topic in The Lounge
Their in peat pots and about 8 inches high already. They have been put outside undercover for 4 days so should be hardy enough to go out into the big wide world. -

Putting the runner beans out tomorrow and another bird box. Nice to have a day off mid week once in a while. -
On provisional pole for tomorrow lunchtime on my cousins 900cc custom racing quad. 900cc Yamaha V twin in a strengthened Polaris 800EFI chassis. First time on such a beast. It took me 4 laps to get used to the sheer power of the thing but stuck in and went for it. Wish me luck as its an Enduro event. Cousin has already got 2nd place today so its now upto me to crack on and put the hammer down. No pressure on me as he has the camera with him and has already taken loads of snaps.

BBC News - Two dead in New Forest ambulance crash Its very close to home as my dad knew the two crew which were on the ambulance this morning. Both had transfered from East Dorset to Hants in the merging of South Western Ambulance and Great Southern Ambulance.

Other than a very very light reduction and a 6 month check up i would leave it. Yes it is in a nursery but that tree has been there since the second world war and before that no doubt. The H+S brigade would fell it at a moments notice but i would leave as much as possible unless it has a bit of die back in the top. And even then i would just take out the deadwood. I wouldn't start hacking into the living tissue.

For the local yokels, we are planning on doing Milborne St Andrew, Moreton Ford, Tincleton both ways (full articulation possible) Norris Mill, and a few around Corfe Castle. Let me know if you can make it so i have an idea of numbers of vehicles.

Sorry for slow reply jon. I'll be workin Sunday but will hopefully be a relaxed day once the main lot of people have gone on. Looking at over 3000 people during the day. The last opening we had we anticipated about 600 people. We had well over 1000. So will be hoping for good weather for the weekend it is on.

A friend of mine who subbies for a few local tree surgeons has a MS200T with a carving bar on it. We swears by it for doing the thinnings/reductions. He uses a carving bar on his MS200 for coppicing work.

Having a few cans and relaxing after a few rough days. Things are looking on the way back up soon though. Will spend tomorrow watching F1 and BTCC. And getting some clothes ready for next weekend when i am down in sunny Somerset/Devon at a motocross event where my cousin is racing in two races and i am racing in another.

First Swallow or House Martin of the 2013 Season, that i have seen
Matthew Arnold replied to difflock's topic in General chat
Seen all four, saw the first swift of the year when i was walking down the trailway, it was miles up but was unmistakable. Was happy to see my first Sand Martin in March but everything is about 2 weeks behind i think because of the recent cold spell. -
Some of this afternoons pictures when i went for a walk from Blandford to the White Horse at Stourpaine had a cheeky pint then walked back with the dogs. The official opening is May 19th. Food, drink and live music will be at the finishing point. We are anticipating over 2000 people to turn up as the day goes on.

Elder sat in a river for 8 months stank of rotting yeast/pig muck. It was horrible to chip and even worse to pick up. Rotting willow stinks to high heaven. We have noticed when we burn lots of ash brash its smells of potato but when we burn Willow it smells of nuts.
